Shared 500 ml bottle at local tasting, from Donslund Vine, Christiansfeld. Reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Strong aroma of caramel malts. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma made me fear - smooth and drinkable, with low bitterness, but still notes of caramel malts, also brown bread.

Poured from the bottle into a Libbey pilsner style glass. Uh oh, green bottle, did we dodge the skunk monster? We shall see…

This is an absolutely beautiful looking brew. Deep amber with dark copper and ruby tones, somewhere in the middle between those two colors. Super fine creamy light khaki head, maybe just frothing over 2 fingers with some light lacing to match. Even with the dark body, there's a great degree of clarity to the beer. Great looking stuff.

Nose, yup there it is, skunk aroma. Although not large, light struck slightly, but with a light airy powdery like grain touch, and faint mix of toffee to char quality. Slight sweetness kicks in as well.

Palate is interesting. Heavily mineral water in feel and taste. Rocky sensation of minerals on the palate mixing with some very light grains of caramel flavor and almost sandalwood. Faint flatened almost cola water to clove like flavors as well.

A fairly interesting lager, but with a real weak watery body also ruined by bad packaging.

500ml bottle. Tons of yeast at the bottom of the bottle. Pours like an oktoberfest; caramel amber color with light foamy off-white head. Head holds just OK. Smells a bit like yeast, not pungent. tastes good. Lots of caramel and grainy pilsner flavors. Clean yeast at the end. Crisp and smooth mouthfeel. Bitterness is both soft and balanced. Pleasant but not overbearing sweetness. I like that its brewed with well water. -yeast not in ingredients.
would buy again. $2/.5L

Got a .5L green bottle for $2 and man is it skunked. Usually I can give a beer five or ten minutes to breathe and it'll return to normal, but this one is taking forever. Once it does, there's a dry pepper and caramel finish after a smooth berry, caramel and white bread flavor. Toasty and caramel aroma. Very drinkable, when it's not skunked..

Clear, mahogany colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Roasty malty and bready aroma with notes of caramel and a touch of molasses. Sweet flavour with a tinge of bitterness, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Solid roasty malty and slightly molassy taste, drying out towards the roasty bitter finish with mildly hoppy notes. Like a diluted dark Bock. Good.

Decent roasty dark lager.

Chestnut brown in color with nice fine-textured head that lasts well. Malty, somewhat aromatic, some toasted nut flavors. Surprising hoppiness creeps in with some bitterness and a sharp flavor in the back of the throat, which is not altogether pleasant. But a slightly interesting beer for a quaff.

This was a half-litre bottle at Petrushka, an Eastern European restaurant in San Diego that has a surprising range of oddball beers.

Not sure I am reviewing the correct beer. The bottle I have says Dark Beer and also Amber. I went to the brewery website (http://www.rakovnikbeer.cz/en/beer.php) and they didn't have my label either, so I'm wondering if it is a newer label or for American markets or something. Anyway it's a good beer. Great smell that is similar to a Pilsner Urquel. Taste follows along that theme with a nice crisp hop flavor and does have a bit of the caramel flavor to go along with the pilsner flavor. Overall it's a good beer and very drinkable. I'd love to drink a few of these on a trip through Eastern Europe.

500 ml bottle from Latvia

Pours amber with large light tan and dense head that very slowly fades. Aroma is mildly burnt and sweetish caramel, dark fruit.

Taste is clean bittery caramel, a bit grainy, very well balanced sweetness. Mouthfeel is light-medium with moderate carbonation.

Overall, a good one. It was not cloying, not overly sweet and refreshing.
