I drank this from the bottle into my Rochefort glass...The beer pours a dark honey gold with lasting white head, good lacing...The aroma is light, but gives off a nice balance on yeast, hops, just pleasant...The taste is decent, a little yeast, but a lot of skunk, very similar to pilsner, not so much of a lager...The feel is ok, but light. Easy to drink except for the skunk finish.

Clear golden colour with a moderate white head. Great lacing.

Overly sweet and almost corny. Grain. No real aroma.

Light malt and a bit of sweetness. Macro style. Dull corny flavour.

Medium body with moderately high carbonation.

A decent but entirely unexceptional lager. Too much corn type "dried out" flavour.

Clearly pale, very see-through, with a finger of nearly stark-white head. No lacing.

Smell is a bit of corn, and a slight metallic aroma. But, there is a bit of grainy malts that make it somewhat pleasant by comparison.

Taste is slightly malty. Reminds me of a bock beer to be quite honest.

Feel is slightly smooth for a lager, still light, but heavier than your average lager. It actually feels like there is something there!

You know, this isn't really my style, but for what it is, I'm hard-pressed to say that this has disappointed! !

A 500ml green bottle with a BB of June 2012. Picked up from my local off-licence on a whim. Pretty sure this is the correct beer - the label is almost identical to the one pictured but says lager, and the ABV is stated as 4.3%.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A clear golden-amber colour with good carbonation. Forms a decent head of white foam that disappears rapidly. Aroma of light malt with a hint of stewed hops and a lingering stale off-note.

Tastes of light malt with a crisp bitterness. Notes of stewed hops, but no aromatics. A whisper of diacetyl in the background, although this isn't unpleasant. A stale/skunky flavour on the finish, but less distinct than with the aroma. Mouthfeel is light, crisp and tingly but a bit thin. Mild aftertaste of stewed hop bitterness.

A fairly average lager with some background off-flavours. I'd put these down to age, but the bottle is well within date. Perhaps it was exposed to excessive light. At any rate, it isn't awful but neither does it have any outstanding character. There are better Czech pilsners out there, so give this a miss...

A: Pale golden body with just the slightest bit of haze. Large fluffy white head with great retention and dense lacing.

S: Light grain, grassy hops and a touch of skunk (but not so much as to be offensive).

T: Straight forward pale euro lager. Grain, corn, a bit of grass and some skunk. Damn green bottles.

M: Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Would give this some more points here if the finish was more crisp and refreshing.

D: Far from the worst pale euro lager. But also not the best.

I'm guessing this is the right beer, only because there are currently 4 beers listed for this brewery and I've eliminated the others. Nothing indicates that it is a light beer or light dark beer. It's not the pilsner (green label) because I already reviewed that and this isn't it. At any rate, this one has a gold label and says simply Bakalar Beer. Guess I'll upload a picture to make it official (apologies to previous reviewer/ beer adder if this is wrong). Sure looks like a EPL.

Anyway... I got this 500mL bottle from Hoosick Beverage in Troy NY for $2.49.

Bottle hadn't been shaken or significantly disturbed, but upon popping the cap some foam started oozing slowly from the top. Pour gives a fairly short-lived flare of fizzy white head that soon settles to a thin layer. Nose of strong skunk dissipates quickly and completely, presumably just stuff from the headspace of the bottle, to give a semi-sweet grainy aroma. In the mouth it is slightly fizzy and the body is on the light side of moderate. Taste is a bit of malt body, some semi-skunky semi-muddy mostly indistinguishable hops, pretty standard EPL.

Sampled back on 10/5/13. Chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler. Poured into a "V" shaped pilsner glass.

Pours a orange/amber in color with just slightly above average carbonation. When first opened it had a slight 'skunky' smell as seems to be the NORM with all brews that come in green bottles! Really no head at all to speak of but left some spotty lacing when sipped. Besides the slight 'skunky' smell and hoppy grains. Very average smell. Luckily the taste was better than the smell but was on the watered-down side with a slight bitter finish.

A - Dark, slightly cloudy amber colour. Touch of head on top.

S - Quite bitey, crisp hops and sweet malt.

T - As with the smell it's primarily crisp/bitter hops mixed with some sweeter malty flavours. There's a touch of soothing honey lying in the aftertaste.

M - Spicy but subdued, vibrant at first but subsiding a little too quickly.

O - Decent beer. Wouldn't be a problem to drink in volume but it's nothing special.

Chilled bottle poured into a pilsner glass.

Thin an lightish golden amber body. Holds a fluffy white head that retains form with light elements of lacing.

Only mild hues on the nose, mostly hoppy with some agricultural fresh grass and grain type odors.

Taste is very hops driven but an equally heavy and sticky dose of malts puts a bit of weight into the palate. Skunky taste in the finish drags on a lingers.

Moderate body with a healthy degree of carbonation tags this lager with a reasonably talented mouthfeel. Overall though this is slightly left field enough to deviate slightly from the saturated czech pilsner camp but not quite strong enough to stand out and make a significant impact.

I picked this beer up at the local Eastern European market, where I often find new and interesting beers you can't find elsewhere. Label says it's made with Moravian Malt, Zhatezki hops, and hops extract. The latter is not too encouraging, but it appears to be at least all-malt. Label also says it's "scalded" in broken English - presumably pasteurized. Bright, rather skunky hops aroma pops out of the bottle immediately upon opening. Solid golden color, with a large, bubbly, but fairly dense head that is slightly off-white in color. A closer sniff reveals a fresh, lightly toasted, malty aroma, with an assertive bitter hops backdrop. Smells rather dry. Light bodied; rather fizzy, but cohesive mouth feel. A good, hard pour eliminates the fizz and produces an impressive, prodigious head that piles up right over the rim without spilling over the side. Nice. Very light malty flavor, with a sharply metallic, bitter hoppy finish. Quite a strong pils. A tad of roasted malt/woody character is back there. A VERY hoppy and in-your-face Czech pilsener. Lots of nice, clingy lace. This is a beer you'd have when you're in the mood for a very hoppy pilsener (like Grolsch in the flip-tops).
