Binny's Beverage Depot is a chain wine, spirits, & beer store. This review is for the South Loop location, located on S Jefferson near W Roosevelt. There is free parking in the rear for those who might be driving to this location.
Quality - The beer is kept in long, low shelving units, in cooler units, and in palettes on the display floor. There were individual bottles, four packs, six packs, cases, mini kegs, and holiday gift packs of some items available when we visited. The store is kept at a cool temperature, and the beer is kept out of direct sunlight. One thing to keep in mind is that you can not mix or break packs (apparently it's a Chicago law, although I can't confirm that), so expect to have to buy the whole case, six pack, or four pack as the case may be.
Service - We were approached by one employee while we were looking through the beer selection, and while he did know his stuff he was slightly overbearing with some of his suggestions. The clerk at the cash register had some difficulty with ringing up a lot of different bottles and then putting them into wine boxes for packaging, the latter part of which we could have taken care of ourselves and saved about 10 minutes. That's not to say that the service was bad, it's just that it could have been better and smoother with a few little tweaks.
Selection - There was a nice variety of beer from across the country available here, as well as a good selection from Germany, Belgium, Britain, and the rest of Europe. There were around 10 different beers available in mini kegs, and there were still several holiday gift packs with beer and glassware available when we visited in spring. Some beers that we wanted were only available in the cooler units and not available on the regular shelves. There was a nice sampling of spring seasonal beers, but the selection was a little smaller than I was hoping for. There was a good selection of saisons, though.
The value was good, and they were a little pricier and a little cheaper on some things that were available at competing stores. It was definitely worth a visit, but I don't know that this would be my first choice shop if I was in the area regularly.
