As a frequent shopper of Philbrick's, I agree with much of the below review. For having a reasonably small beer section (1 cooler), they do tend to carry a decent selection of local and imported craft beers (including some Germans).

The local beers mentioned above seem to be staples of their selection, more recently also including Kona beers, which are also brewed locally at Redhook. In addition to their standard big bottles of Unibroues, Smuttynoses and lambics, philbricks has also been carrying Chimays and Ommegangs lately, which has been nice.

In addition to their 6-packs, they have also been carrying some 4-packs of the stronger DFH and Flying Dog beers.

As a store, Philbrick's is pretty nice. Their regular food (with the exception of produce) is more expensive than what you can find it for elsewhere, but their beers seem to be pretty much in line with normal prices. I've even found it to be cheaper than some other area stores and supermarkets at times.

Philbrick's is the local "whole foods" style upscale super market. It has one nice case of beer, with a well chosen selection of big bottles and six packs.

As you would expect it does tend to focus on local beers (NH, Me, MA) so it always has a couple of styles of Shipyard, Geary's, Gritty's, Smuttynose, Allagash, Sam Adams, Tuckerman, Long Trail, Harpoon, and Redhook (kind of local - brewed in Portsmouth).

In addition, there is a nice selection of big bottles that almost always includes a Rogue beer, Duvel, Harpoon 100 barrel series, Smuttynose Big Beer series, usually a number of Unibroues, and a nice selection of belgian Lambics.

Throw is some 6 packs of Dogfish, Sierra Nevada, Flying Dog, and Brooklyn and there is usually something in this well chosen case to add to your grocery bin.

If you are in Portsmouth this is a great place to grab some beer and some food at the same time. You will not find a better beer selection in town.
