On tap for the Selinsgrove Market Street Festival.

A-Brilliant copper with a medium white head that reduce a bit to leave decent lace.

S-Rich caramel malt and a bit of musty/earthy hops.

T-Full flavoured caramel malt with a subdude sweetness, very toffee-like. Nice, full roundness with a bit of spicy hop bite in the finish.

M-Medium bodied with s full "roundness" and very smooth.

D-Extremely. This is a well done session fest bier. Not too malty, not too hoppy--great balance. One you could drink by the German liter steinfull!

Clear amber color with a significant head.

Very subtle and non-offensive smell. Uniquely uncharacteristic. Not bad, just nothing.

This is by far the lightest Marzen I've ever had. It almost feels like a Light Lager. This is stupidly simplistic, while being non-offensive at the same time. Besides a very subtle bitter aftertaste, this tastes like Bud Light.

Served on-tap at the Brewpub.

A - Pours clear copper orange with a nice one finger tall white head leaving spotty streaks of thin, sticky lace down parts of the glass.

S - Smells of caramel, toffee, dulled fruit, lightly toasted bready malt and a weird buttery aroma developing toward the end of the glass. Pretty muted throughout.

T - Starts off with some light caramel malt sweetness slowly giving way to hints of lightly toasted chewy grain, toffee, dulled fruit and some faint spiciness. The weird buttery note from the nose is develops in the taste as well. Finish is a little watery with some light sweetness, not lingering on the palate for very long.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Smooth feel initially going a little watery toward the end of the glass.

O - Not a bad beer but compared to their other beers this is a letdown. It has some weird flavors/aromas that should not be there and it needs some more maltiness. I will give it another try next year but not a good one so far.

Poured on tap into a tulip pint glass at the bar.

It is hard to determine precise color and appearances in the dim lit bar, however the beer is presented with a light collar if off white. Body is a dark orange/amber with always a rising carbonation coming up from the middle in a dime like circle.

Nose is slight apple with malt kind of mild, not too much going on.

Taste is a light bodied and watery cola sense. Coke like palate with cinnamon, some slight butter and brown sugar and some light citrus hop orange. Sweet tasting and really reminds me of cola. It's very odd for the style, but it's creamy mouthfeel (even when a little wet) sort of improves it. The taste is alright if not quite to style it seems.

Overall it is not bad but hardly malty for a Marzen and while unique tasting kind of strange.

A - A finger's worth of ultra lush creamy slightly off white colored head... A vibrant amber color... A cyclone of rapid paced carbonation rises within the center of the glass... Very appealing...

S - Quite muted... Not much going on in this regard... Toasted malts... Some orange zest... Light caramel notes... Loaded with bready malts... Some light fruity notes...

T - Toasted malts... Orange zest... Light toffee... Light caramel... Some faint fruit notes... Perhaps even some very very faint peppery notes as well...

M - On the heavier side of light bodied... Very delicate... Just a bit of carbonation... Creamy... Lush... Rich... Rather smooth...

D - Arguably amongst the most drinkable Oktoberfests that I've ever encountered... Quaffability is off the charts... I would have no problem downing a couple of these in a session... Highly recommended...

On tap at the brewpub on 10/30/10.

Served in a sort of short weizen style glass this brew appears a light copper color with a thin cap of off-white head that dissolves fairly fast into nothing. Several swirls of the glass produce a faint amount of bubbles.

The aroma is herbal hops blended with a bit of mineral quality and some sulfur notes. A light orange citrus quality emerges as the brew warms with some faint buttery tones.

The taste is a mixture of light bready malt sweetness contrasted by herbal hoppy bitterness. Some light buttery quality is present that blends with a mineral aspect that comes across a bit like sulfur. It is slightly off-putting when the sulfur-like notes mingled with the herbal hops and that mineral quality. The finish of this brew is quite crisp in the normal marzen fashion.

This is a medium to light bodied brew with a mild level of carbonation. The carbonation doesn't appear with any visual quality but it is prickly on the tongue. The abv is a little more evident than expected for less than 6%. I wouldn't care to have another glass due to the offputting character that is a combination of herbal hops, mineral quality and sulfur.

From the brewpub.

A: This time of year, how can you resist an oktoberfest? This one is coppery, a clear color that blends orange and brown hues nicely. Not much head, although each pour offers successively less.

S: The nose is toasty, malty with ample sweetness. Breads and light fruits contribute to the full nose.

T: Mmmm, oktoberfest. The marzenbier is bready, toasty and rich with plenty of sweetness lingering around. Caramel malts, along with the light fruits, match nicely with a grassy hop flavor. The lager hits the right notes, especially in these crisper days.

M: The mouthfeel is malty and rich. A fuller beer that delivers a smooth flavor.

D: This lager has just enough fullness to really hit the spot. Plenty of caramel malts and a richer feel.

Reviewed on 9/30/2009. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear orange with a white head. Aroma of generic sweet malt. It is not very aromatic to be honest. Flavor of light sweet malt and bitter hops. Not much flavor here. It is probably middle of the road for an oktoberfest.

On tap during the (rainy) 2009 Market Street Festival

A: Nice cuprous-amber body. Slight frothy white head. Spotty lacing followed the light skim all the way down the glass.

S: Solid dose of caramel malt, fresh baked bread and slightly spicy spalt hops. Pronounced, but not powerful.

T: This is a real nice malty brew that doesn't weigh you down in its sweet-breadyness. Good caramel punch. Nice hop complement. Grassy and spicy.

M: Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Smooth lead up to a gentle bite at the finish.

D: Went quite well with the weather actually. The malt warmed me up a bit after coming in from the dreary weather and a three hour trip up here.

On tap at the brewpub on 10/24/08.

Pours a hazy golden amber with thin head of brite-white foam. Retains well around the edges, leaving some decent lacing behind. The aroma is combination of bready malts, caramel sweetness, and some moderate notes of floral hops, spice, and citrus.

The taste is caramel malt sweetness that is wrapped up in a lightly toasted feel. There is also a solid hop profile that offers some good balance and support to the proceedings. Finishes a touch sweet with some lingering bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a sharp and crisp feel on the palette.

Crisp, well balanced, and tasty, this is a great take on Marzen style that goes down exceptionally well. Another solid and easy drinking Fall brew from the SGB.

Poured a clear coppery amber color with 1 finger of foamy off-white head. OK retention and some lacing left behind. Smells of butter, bread, caramel, and floral hops. Tastes of butterscotch briefly up front followed by nice bready notes, honey, spices, toasted grains, and grass. Medium in both body and carbonation. Smooth with a good sweet breadiness and a little kick of spices in the finish. Refreshing and easy to drink, very sessionable and a great representation of the style.

On tap at SGB on 10/4/08.

A - Hazy copper-colored body with very little carbonation and creamy one-finger off-white head that receded and left sparse lacing around the glass.

S - Caramel malt with a bit of spice and breadiness. There's also a touch of floral hops in the back. Pretty timid nose overall.

T - Nice breadiness with subtle caramel sweetness. Mild spices blend with some floral and earthy hops. Not overly malty like many other marzens.

M - Smooth, creamy texture with medium carbonation that's very nice for the style. Finishes with a bit of syrupy sweetness and a mild spiciness.

D - Excellent fest beer that's perfect for session drinking during the autumn months. One of the best I've had, actually.

"Made in the style of the traditional lagers served during the Octoberfest festivals in Germany. This copper colored lager has a deep malt character balanced with Vanguard & Hallertauer hops. A great accompaniment to many
foods."

My last stop for IPA (out again!!) ended up in a few pints of this seasonal offering, brewed yearly for the Market Street Festival in downtown Selinsgrove.

Poured a clear copper color with a thin layer of bone-white head. Aromas are a mixture of caramel malty sweetness and crsip, spicy hops. Flavor is more of the same. Hefty up-front sweetness mixed with some earthy-grassy hops. Finish is sweet and creamy smooth. Nice mouthfeel and very quaffable. Tasty, but not among my favorites from this brewery.
