Enjoyed on-tap at SGBC on 6-19-09.

Poured a hazy golden amber with some coppery hues. 1 finger of frothy eggshell colored head had OK retention and left some decent lacing. Smells of floral and fruity hops, honey, toasted grain, and a touch of candy. Tastes of caramel malt and some lightly toasted grain before some fruity hops open up. Finishes with some spicy notes and a bit of citrus zest. Medium in body with nice carbonation. Smooth and creamy with a nice bitter spicy finish that clings to the palate. Very easy to drink while still packing in a lot of flavor, a very good pale ale very easy to session.

64 oz growler that was filled at the brewpub on 6/13/09. Poured into a pint glass.

Pours a hazy golden orange with about a 1/2 finger of foamy eggshell white head. Mostly retains with a fizzy look around the edges, with some thinnish wisps in the center. This actually goes about completely dead after a while, leaving just a smattering of lace back. The aroma is VERY earthy and spicy smelling, with a solid moderate tang thanks to the breadiness of the pale malts and some fairly robust citrus character. The spiciness of this really makes the aroma though.

The taste is once again controlled by the herbal and spicy character of the English hops, which lingers with the sweet tang of the malts and citrus to REALLY lay on the palate with a dry feel for a good bit. Solid. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with that same slick creaminess to it that much of the SGB beers have. Very smooth and easygoing in the mouth, which really helps out the drinkibility in this case.

Beyond the look, this was an all-around solid Pale Ale. They love to do the English style of this here at the SGB, and they've put the English hops to good use in this one. I'm still trying to shake the spice and bitterness out of my mouth. Well done!

A-Murky copper orange-tint body with a frothy, medium off-white head that reduced to a thin cap and left nice lace.

S-Fruity hops and biscuit malt with lighter noter of citrus, caramel sweetness and bit of spice and a touch of chalk.

T-Caramel malt sweetness up front that is quickly balanced with a strong fruity hop pressence and a citrusy bite. Touch of spiciness in the background.

M-Medium bodied smooth and a bit syrupy. Nothing overly sweet and it does finish dry and bitter.

D-A well balanced, solid and easily drinkable English Pale. Served on the hand pull this brew would make any cask lover happy. Little to fault with this one.

On tap at the brewpub.

A-Pours an orangey gold, clear, with a white ring of bubbles and no lacing.

S-Bready malt with a hint of citrus.

T-Malty, a bit salty and crisp, with rather light citrus hoppiness and a light sour tang in the finish.

M-Medium bodied with carbonation a bit on the light side of medium.

D-A nice easy drinking ale.

On tap at SGB on 6/14/09.

A - Hazy orange, copper-tinted body with lots of slow-rising bubbles of carbonation and one-finger frothy off-white head that settled to a thin veil and yielded adequate lacing.

S - Fruity hops and bready malt comprise the initial aroma, followed by a hint of citrus fruit, mild spices and plenty of sweet caramel malt. Fairly subtle nose overall.

T - Caramel malt sweetness dominates the flavor, but quickly segues into a blast of fruity hops with a citrus zing and mildly perfumy notes. Nicely balanced flavor overall.

M - Medium bodied with a light syrupy texture and soft carbonation resulting in a fairly slick mouthfeel overall. Subtle dry, bitter finish with some residual sweetness on the palate.

D - Very good pale ale overall with a fine balance of malt and hops. Nothing really dominates here, but rather the flavors all seem to complement one another quite nicely.
