Hazy light orange color with a fine creamy head that dies down and leave a bit of lacing.

Spicy nose with coriander, citrus and toast. Similar flavors with an overall chalky character. A bit heavy - not at all bright or sparkly like some tripels.

Full bodied with very light carbonation. Overall, this tripel seems to be bogged down in its size a bit. Tasty enough and a good foil for the soft pretzel with spicy mustard.

a: This was a cloudy straw colored yellow. It was served to me with a one inch frothy white cap.

s: Big aromas of candied sugar and some mild peppery spices. There is a little estery banana here as well.

t: Very sweet candied sugar dominate this one. There is a little peppery clove and some banana as well. The perfumed heat came on pretty strong.

m: Beautiful velvety body and lush carbonation.

d: Not bad, but too sweet for me.

Thanks to FTB and JennieB for bringing a growler of this beer to our tailgate. Nothin' like the smell of tripel in the morning.

A: The tripel has a a darker golden hue, dark and full enough to be opaque. A finger of head was generally unremarkable.

S: The nose is sweet, laiden with this candi sugars and Belgian yeast. Pale malts peak through, as does a pretty heavy load of alcohol.

T: The body follows the nose with plenty of sweet candi sugars and yeast-driven fruit. Pale malts struggle to keep up. Behind the initial flavors, the alcohol lies in wait, pouncing with a vengeance in every sip. The alcohol is strong, almost a dominant partner in the tripel.

M: The tripel starts well before getting too hot. The flavors aren't quite fusel but they come close.

D: Only 8.5%? This one feels like a 10%+ behemoth. The tripel needs to be approached lightly or else it will beat you up.

Poured from the growler into a tulip glass.

A body of brass yellow slight orb glowing but a fourteen carat gold appearance. Rising cola large bubble carbonation. Head is white and tight but only grows so large. No lacing at all.

Nose is mild small candi sense, and malt. A standard tripel but also not particularly boozy either. Looking for a little more action here but this is alright.

Taste brings small apple sweetness, a mix of honey and sugar, gentle palate feeling. Texture brings some light malt and hint of little alcohol.

Overall pretty basic for a tripel but still a solid beer and enjoyable.

A great tripel. Cloudy orange with a whisp of head. Lacey. Aroma of fruit and yeast.Medium mouthfeel. The taste-did they cut these fruits in? Unfiltered taste, apricot and then peach. A bit on the sweeter side.Aged? Yet the fruit could be a smoothie cut up an hour ago, masterful brewing by the couple. A must try, and as good as a monk in Belgium.

Served on-tap at the brewpub.

A - Pours hazy golden yellow with a small film of white head, dissipating down to a light film, leaving no lace at all down the glass.

S - Smells of candied sugar, fruity belgian yeast, citric fruit, light spice and some green apples. There is quite a bit of alcohol burn on the nose once it warms up.

T - Starts off with a ton of sugary sweetness slowly giving way to hints of citric fruit, green apples, belgian yeast and some dulled spice. Quite a bit of alcohol comes through as it warms up. Finish is pretty sweet, lingering for some time after consumption.

M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Sweet, soft feel with quite a bit of residual sweetness clinging to the pallet long after consumption.

O - I have had this one quite a few times before and it was much better than this score would indicate. I will have to revisit this one in the future and give it another chance.

A - A slight pure white colored creamy head... A vibrant bright yellow color... An undeniable haze permeates... Limited carbonation throughout...

S - Lemon scented Luden's cough drops... Pinneapple... Mango... Some faint notes of honey... Candied sugars... A faint whiff of Belgian yeast...

T - An interesting array of flavors... Lemon zest... A bit of pineapple... Some candied sugars... Muted banana... A muted spiciness... Some wheat like notes...

M - On the fuller side of medium bodied... Dense and a bit sturdy... Surprisingly syrupy... A bit on the thick side of the equation... Light carbonation...

D - A bit thicker and sweeter than I expect for the style... Formidable none the less... The 9% ABV is fairly well hidden...
Rather satisfying...

First visit to Selin's Grove and really liked the place. The Triple was poured into a goblet and had a nice light orange/dark gold appearance with a frothy off white head two fingerwidths high. Smell has some typically banana, clove, spicy esters, along with a little bit more alcohol than I expected. Taste is what I expect in a triple, little bit more sugar and warm booziness than in some other triples I enjoy. All in all a strong representation of the style.

Review from notes taken on 7/8/10 at the brewpub.

Served in a 14oz stemmed tulip-like glass. This brew appears a hazed golden color stuck somewhere between orange and a light amber shade. The head is nonexistent but when swirled, it creates a light white ring around the inside of the glass. The carbonation rises throughout the body providing support for the thin ring around the top.

The sweet aroma of this brew includes all the typical belgian phenols. Slightly clovey and spicey with lots of candy sweetness throughout.

The flavor of this brew follows in line with what the nose led on. This is a medium bodied brew that is modestly carbonated that is prickly on the tongue. There is a long lingering flavor left in the mouth typical of belgian yeast, candy sugar, cloves, slight banana and other spices. Pleasant incorporation of alcohol heat throughout. Quite drinkable and enjoyable.

Reviewed on 7/26/08. Growler shared by beerbill. Pours a cloudy orange with a thick white head. Aroma of bitter spices and Belgian yeast. Flavor of light spiced fruits (apple, pear), light sweetness with a bitter spicy finish. Very light and spicy, so easy to drink, more subdued than most tripels (a good thing, as it's not super spicy). WOW, I really enjoyed this beer! Nice and spritzy and light on the tongue.

On tap 8-14-10.

A: Similar to their saison in color a cloudy golden sunset pretzel orange is highlighted by a vibrant strong display of effervesce composed of tightly knitted bubbles rising single file at a average rate. The head was creamy, sticking well to the glass leaving a thin film coating of good coverage behind.

S: Spicy nose, with a warm tropical fruitiness. Soft and refined with some hints of warming alcohol. Overall simple yet dry and rewarding.

T: Again as with their saison what the nose lacked, the flavor delivered two-fold. Warm alcohol meets up with a spicy hopping that was sharp and well defined. Dry tropical fruitiness move in along with a good peppery dash on the finish. Warming, crisp and peppery best sums this up flavorwise that is truly elevated beyond most its peers.

M: Another good mouthful, warming alcohol with a tight carbonation factor. A dry finish and a peppery dash ends things with good results.

D: Solid by example, a nice gentle warming touch of alcohol but still comes off very manageable to consume. Worthy of a follow up.

A - A bright and beautiful golden body with a slight cloudiness...a thin head develops and settles into a ring...not much lacing

S - Bread and yeast stand out...some fruits...and a slight alcohol aroma

T - Very sweet right off the bat...a big dose of the candied sugar...the taste becomes more complex with major fruit in the middle...a spicy bitterness to finish it off...the alcohol really comes out when the beer gets warm

M - Medium body that has a lot of complexity...you have to let it all mellow on your palate

D - Very drinkable...the alcohol is hidden well...a great balance between sweet and spicy...I will be having more from SGBC

On tap at the brewpub, 3/3/12.

Pours a relatively dark orange golden color with a large white head and nice lace. Warming and boozy sugary sweet aroma with potent peppery spice and light hops. Flavor is fruiter and spicier than the nose with the candi sugar taking a back seat. A slight, dry hoppy finish produces a clean, refreshing finish. Medium bodied, soft and creamy, moderate carbonation. An adequate, if forgettable triple.
