On nitro-tap at SGB on 1/18/13. Am I coming out of retirement... we'll see!

A - Beautifully dense-looking finger of foam on top of a dark and brooding brown-colored liquid. Lovely nitro pour!

S - Aroma isn't too intense, but there's plenty of roasty malt with notes of chocolate and coffee. I will say that the aroma of this new stout is definitely more apparent and chock-full-of-goodness than its predecessor, Shade Mountain Stout.

T - Yeah you mutha! Exquisite full-on roasty flavor with an abundance of coffee and chocolate notes. Sweetness gives way to a hint of earthiness in the backend, then follows through with a one-two punch of coffee and cocoa character.

M - Lush and smooth mouthfeel overall. Again, waaaay more full-bodied than Shade Mountain, which I love but always found to be a tad bit thin in this department. This is a nice thick, rich stout you can chew on!

O - I hope this becomes a standard offering at SGB. This is a clear improvement over Shade Mountain, IMO, and look forward to drinking more of this next time!

Served on nitro-tap at the Brewpub.

A - Pours a frothy one finger tall white head leaving sticky rings of lace down most of the glass. The nitro pour makes this one look delicious.

S - Smells of dark roasted chocolate malt, day old coffee, light smoke, dark fruits, toffee and a bit of caramel. This one has a ton going on in its depths.

T - Starts off with plenty of dark roasted chocolate malt, day old coffee and some mild smokiness. Hints of dark fruit, caramel and toffee help round everything out. FInish is a little toasty with some dark roast, not really lingering on the palate for long thanks to the nitro creamy feel.

M - Heavy body with moderate carbonation. The creamy feel from the nitro pour really makes this one luscious beer to consume.

O - Nothing too crazy here, just a very nice all around stout. I think the nitro pour really helped this one. Glad I got to try it while it was around.

Served from the nitro tap at SGB. The brew appears a dark brown color with a super rich thick and creamy toasted marshmallow silky topping more than a finger thick. A full wall of patchy lace sticks to the glass. The cap remains down to the last sip.

The aromatics are sweet with hints of roasted chocolate and coffee. A bit of a sweetness comes from something like a dark fruit inclusion of raisins or plums. A mild mineral to earthy edge is noticed across the back.

The taste includes a bit of minerals and earthy roast initially that blends into chocolate and coffee flavors. There is a trace amount of herbal hops and mild alcohol warming up across the back. The flavor starts off really solid with roasty grain flavors but as the mineral components come out, it loses a bit of it's wow factor.

This is a medium bodied brew with a silky smooth and super rich and chewy feel. It is a very nice offering that was taken over the top with the nitro delivery. Some brews use nitro as a crutch to make them good, this one was certainly made better by the presentation but I wish it was also served via normal co2 so I could take a growler home. Nicely done, worth checking out.
