Smith's is the perfect mix of classic pool hall and outstanding beer selection. If you have a chance to stop by, it's highly recommended from the beer side, and has the vibe of an old-school pool-shootin', echoing hall. Beer-wise, expect a rotating, well-diversified, high gravity draft list with a thorough bottle selection. Very pleased to say the least. Tried several while there and must say Founser's puts out an IPA that's pinier, and stronger than just about any I think I've ever had. Cheers to Smith's for keeping their drafts up to date and diversified.

Great atmosphere. Several pool tables, a shuffleboard table and quite a few tvs. Went there on a Saturday night and was able to get a table painlessly. Non-pretentious crowd and the beer selection was nice. I think there were 10 beers on draft with some local stuff. Sadly, they do not have a bottle list but the fridge has a glass front and you can look. Bartenders were friendly and efficient.

Located right above Theodore's which is a BBQ place that has a slightly different draft selection. You can order food from downstairs and they'll bring it up. Also, if you eat at Theodore's, your pool time is comped.

Smith's is a unique beer bar and the best craft bar in the Springfield area (immediate area). It attracts people of all different crowds but is always a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is cool because it is a billiards hall, a very large room with wooden floors and a lot of pool tables/darts. The bar is big and there is also a lot of tables to sit at. Quality is good, fresh beer on tap and sufficient glassware. Service is quick, order and get the beer right away. One of the bartenders (Jim), is very knowledgeable about craft beer and usually will have a nice conversation about beer if he isn't really busy. Selection is always solid craft brews on-tap (12?) and a nice cooler full of fresh bottles. I haven't had the food but Theodores is known to have some great BBQ from what I hear. Very reasonable prices for both bottle and drafts.

This is the only legitimate beer bar in Springfield. Great atmosphere, great BBQ from the kitchen of Theodore's downstairs and a really nice beer selection. Pool tables and shuffleboard to keep you entertained. I recently attended an Allagash Tap Takeover at Smiths, they were pouring 12 different Allagash's beer, including some that are somewhat rare and all for the very fair price of $6 for a 10 oz. glass. They also had some free food out and overall it was a great time. My friends and I will definitely be back in the near future.

Smith's Billiards is definitely a hidden gem for beer in the state of Massachusetts. Unlike any other craft beer bars in western MA especially. The atmosphere is everything I personally look for in a bar. 15-20 seats at a bar that hosts about 10 taps running around the clock. Bottle cooler at far left of the bar that hosts some high quality beers as often as possible. Unbelievably open area between the billiard tables, darts in the back, table-top shuffle board at the far right, and even a golden tee machine if you are so inclined.

The manager of Smith's, name being Jim, has a wealth of beer knowledge and is willing to chat with anyone when it comes to beer, sports, or local culture. You'll always see Jim running around doing any job to keep this place to the best standard one can do by himself. *The reason I rated the service low was because when there isnt some one running this place that has the passion like a manager like Jim, one can definitely tell when he is not there.

The food is some good barbecue grub! I recommend any of the barbecue and sandwiches. Dont be afraid to ask for a recommendation for a beer to pair either.

In summary, this "spot" always has music playing, sports on t.v., and good food. The staff are friendly even if they are not beer nuts and the food is real good New England barbecue (NE bbq is meant for a note of humor).

The tap list is changing sometimes on a daily basis because the manager Jim is always trying to provide great beer at its freshest. Two Thumbs Up!

I was recently in Springfield on business for a couple of days so naturally I checked this place out the first night. It is a large dark open room with high ceilings located upstairs from the street. 10-12 billiard tables adequately spaced throughout with some high tables, darts, and fuseball interspersed. The bar runs along the street side with a cold box for bottles at one end. I went on Wednesday and then again on Friday. Wednesday was not busy at all (many open pool tables and a few open bar stools). Friday was busy, but not crowded (all pool tables were spoken for but you could walk around without problem). The vibe is quite good too since this is obviously the beer geek spot in Springfield.

The service was friendly and knowledgeable for sure. The guys behind the bar know what they are pouring. Both nights I ended up speaking with the bar manager, whose name now escapes me, for a while. He showed us a Founders KBS sixtel that had to wait to be opened for a promotional event. We begged, we pleaded to have it put on for a couple small pours. Instead he pulled out a bottle of last years KBS for us. A nice compromise.

The beers on tap were nothing short of great: Mongo IPA, Founders RIS, Ballast Point Sea Monster Stout, Victory at Sea, Pretty Things Jac D'Or, Allagash White, and maybe 10 others. The bottle selection was quite good as well. Allagash, DFH, Brooklyn, Port Brewing, some Founders, Stone, and various other things.

If memory serves correctly I had the food at the downstairs BBQ place which I think also provides the food for Smith's. The BBQ I had was good, but I am pretty particular about my BBQ. Basically the food is what you would expect at good bar.

My one problem that I had was that I ordered a couple of 22oz. Port Brewing bottles of Hop-15 and Wipeout while there (I was sharing :). I was there March 16 and 18. The Hop-15 bottle I had was filled Dec. 15. Three months old is a bit old for a DIPA in my opinion. The beer was pretty good, but lacked a serious hop aroma. Of the two bottles of Wipeout I had, both lacking "bottled on" dates, one was spectacular, the other not great.

Other than that, I highly recommend this place if you are ever in Springfield!
