Gets the slight edge in Richmond, just for me personally, due to higher volume of cold-ready brews.
Great selection...somewhat nice staff.

Unless you head to the big chain store down on Robious, this is the best beer selection I've found south of the river. You've probably got a better shot at locally produced brews here than there. Ben and Tomy Harris are good fellows, helpful and friendly, and if they're more knowledgeable about wine than beer, well, it is called Once Upon a Vine. I appreciate that they're serious about beer, too. I also appreciate that they have beer tastings most Friday nights.

Nice shop situated right off of Chippenham on Forest Hill (near enough to Forest Hill). Relatively easy to get to.
Seemed like more space here than the other OUAV, but probably the same beer to wine ratio. Easy listening tunes softly playing as I looked through the amply spaced aisles for some beer ideas.
Quality was on par with most every other shop in town. Good number of within dates IPA's, but just a scant few blatantly out of date selections. Who knows with the Ballast Point stuff....
Kind lady asked me once if I needed assistance, to which I replied "Not just yet, but I'll let you know if I do." which sufficed quite well. She was ready to check my purchases as soon as I moved to the front. Otherwise, pretty quiet.
The selection seemed to mirror the other shop (who'd a thought...) but I think their were more canned selections here. I'll have to double check on that though. Good selection regardless.
A touch more pricey than a few other shops in town, but not enough to make me avoid the place. I'd seek this shop out again.

located in the outer regions of Richmond, OUaVS is located in a little brick strip mall looking like any other, a banner over the storefront proclaiming the presence of great beer in this bland setting
straight through the door and to the left side of the store - a full wall of cooler space dedicated to various American micros, complimented by a full side of the adjacent aisle shelf in warm storage, the other side of said shelf holds the imports and glassware, mostly high end stuff with Germany and Belgium of course well represented, some expensive BFM bottles were tempting but I'm after the domestics
Legend bombers and six-packs; Williamsburg AleWerks stuff including the barleywine, bourbon barrel porter, and now hard to find Rapadou porter; most of the Heavy Seas stuff to include a range of the high gravity bombers; beyond these locals are loads and loads of excellent domestic micros, including stuff I haven't seen anywhere else, too many to go into, but rest assured that everybody will find something of interest here; lots of places have singles selections, but the one here is quite large and full of stuff you'd actually want to buy
didn't really experience much service while in-store, but there was only one man running the show and a steady in-and-out of one customer at a time requiring money collection, friendly guy but couldn't really offer much info about the bomber I was purchasing, either
quality seemed fine, bottles were in good condition and everything was clean, everything I picked up to purchase was in-date, lots of artificial lighting but probably not much of an issue (gotta see something to buy it, no?)
really nice selection here - I thought better than the original OUaV location, which didn't really have much by the way of singles, but I've only been to each once so take that with a grain of salt

I'm pretty much a beer "newbie" and a friend of mine had suggested we visit Once Upon a Vine South last week. I had gone to another local establishment previously but the way he talked about Once Upon a Vine South, I had to see for myself.
I was blown away at the quality and quantity of their beer selections both international and American. They offer a great selection for those of us just starting out to the experienced who have advanced tastes.
A huge cooler selection too as well as a number of various globe glasses. They also have an excellent wine selection along with assorted cheeses and side dishes.
This one is definitely worth a visit by aficionados and newbies alike!

This place as I was told by one of the manager was originally opened as mainly a wine store with beer on the side. When you first walk in it seems to be more of a beer store with wine on the side. The staff know their beer, the manager I talked with knew more about wine than beer but said he had been to SN beer school. Prices are consistent with other stores in the area. Selection is amazing, large number of american bombers and everyday 10% off mix-a-six packs. they also have good selection of English ales as well as Belgians. they also have a section of corked and caged beers. They also stock a wide variety of brewery glassware.

I don't think Richmond beer stores could get any better than Once Upon A Vine South, the "other side of the river" cousin to Once Upon A Vine (which my symmetry-focused mind wants to call Once Upon A Vine North, but perhaps that adjective will never be welcome in Richmond?). Both stores are in fact excellent, and the slight differences in what they stock make them both worth visiting. To me, the South store has a bit more focus on beer glasses and unusual Belgians, but perhaps that is just a reflection of the fact that I've spent so much more time in the original location... Well worth visiting... a worthy cousin to the renowned and original OUAV.

Being a frequent customer of the Northside's Once Upon A Vine, yet a resident in Bon Air, I was pleased when this location opened. The layout of the store is well-organized and a pleasant atmosphere to browse in. The beer selection supersedes most, if not all, other Richmond Metro beer (& wine) sellers. All beer styles are well represented, and they take risks on introducing new breweries and styles to their market--something the big chain supermarkets and big wine & beer stores fail to do, but willingly send their "covert" spies to steal ideas for inventory they are too lazy to research and attempt on their own (my subtle plea for staying loyal to the local and independent with shopping decisions). Lastly, and most importantly, the staff creates the "old-school", "Main Street" experience of taking time to talk to you, making recommendations, and making you feel your patronage is something they don't take for granted. Highly recommended!

The original location has become a must visit while in Richmond and was eager to see how the new location compared. The selection and pricing seemed to be almost identical to the old location, this location had more of the Southern Tier beer left that the owner had picked up from NOVA. Service was excellent, with a knowledgeable clerk who was eager to answer any questions and even took every bottle we selected to the front counter as we browsed. While I may not visit both locations on the same day in the future, it's nice to know there's two near each other in case one is out of something I want.

Similar to the other Once Upon a Vine, this is about 40% beer, 60% wine which is a pretty good ratio for around here.
One wall of refrigerated beers, 2 aisles of singles and 6/4 packs. Some glassware also is on one of the aisles. Towards the back on a separate wall are some more Belgians.
Not as much selection as the other store but still what is there is some good stuff and easier to see as it isnt all cramped up into one little corner.
The guy that was there on my visit was talkative and had some knowledge of what was in stock after telling me he sold ever single "Naked Elf" to one guy right after it came in.... Fine, just dont tell me that, OK?
Overall a great addition to this side of town even though its only 10 minutes from the other one and should have been pushed further south.
