Poured from a 12 oz can into a Southern Star 14 oz glass.
A: Black with a very dark red hue when a flashlight is held up to glass. 1 finger creamy tan head that quickly receeds leaving a light lacing that disappears rapidly.
S: Definitely smells roasty malts with chocolate, coffee and toffee smell behind it. Very faint smell of alcohol well hidden.
T: Very smooth and balanced. Malty, roasty, chocolate and coffee is faint.
M: Very nice. Tiny bite on the tongue. Creamy texture. Warmth of the alcohol felt as the taste fades.
O: A very nice, well balanced beer for this type. Nothing is overpowering and this beer is very drinkable. Be careful. Its 8.25% ABV, is dark as night and will sneak up on you. Definitely one to keep on hand.

I was expecting jet black from the commercial description, but this is dark brown. Bad lighting at the Southern Star Brewery. Smells strongly of slightly burnt toast and tons of chocolate malts. I get some coffee roast in the smell, but I'd like a bit more. SWEET BEER. Lots of chocolate and toasty/roasty malts. More chocolate and toast than anything. Needs balance dearly. Mouthfeel is slick, sticky, yet not that full. Overall, this isn't that great. I'm splitting a can with someone, and it's hard to take down.
