A - dark black fading to a light amber towards the lip of the glass it was poured into. Head non-existent almost (well poured from the waitress). Very slight lacing in the glass that sticks well to the glass. Good start.
S - mostly a dark cocoa nose, with hints of anise and a sweet aroma like melted chocolate. Slight touch of smokiness here. Served cold, would expect more of this when warmed.
T - Really unique. A balance of smoked wood and earth tones combines with bitter chocolate, roasted malt, and some sweetness on the back palate. A touch of Dutch cocoa lingers on the aftertaste. Really distinctive flavor profile; well worth trying for those of the dark beer lovers.
M - rich and full-flavored make this a sipping beer. Sweetness makes you wanna come back. A slight burn in he upper palate from the alcohol. A little aging couldn't hurt his one. Coats the roof of the mouth.
D - as I let this one come up to temp, it appealed to me more and more. I'll admit to a predisposition towards stouts, but you could do worse than this one. Bonus points for being both domestically brewed and semi-local. Would buy again if given the chance.
