Notes/Commercial Description:
At the peak of summer 1631 King Gustavus Adolphus led thousands of Swedish troops into Northern Germany. Following the destruction and subsequent plundering of Brandenburg Adolphus’ army marched through the endless wheat fields en route to Bavaria. Brewed with copious amounts of red wheat, Blood ov the Kings is aromatically driven by bread, biscuit and notes of exotic fruit. Hazy and medium bodied the beer has a rich and creamy mouth feel with a dry, bitter, and slightly sweet finish. Unbound by the Reinheitsgebot Blood ov the Kings would certainly have been the vital fluid of victory for the Swedish monarch as he spilled blood across the wheat fields of Northern Europe.

I had this on tap at Capital City Gastropub, enjoyed chilled in a pint.

The color is deep amber with hazed appearance and thick white cream with fine bead and thick lace. The smell is very malt dominant with light toasted aroma and yeast accent with mild spice. The feel is great with full malt and toasted grain mild spice texture with moderate carbonation and slight alcohol with light bitterness and clean dry finish.

The taste is very nutty, dry and toasted with slight herbal taste and gentle yeast in the background and mostly wheat-like element with some gentle flavor of fruit from the combination of ingredients. Overall a very good pale wheat, nice complexity and easy to drink a good pale ale with wheat flavor.

Poured into a stemless wine glass. Cloudy, copper-amber with thin, tan eggshell head.

Earthy and floral hop notes up front, underlying fruit combined with sweet biscuity malt.

If I had been blindfolded, I would have sworn it was a red ale. Initial rush culminates with a bite of carbonation on your tongue over a constant biscuit malt undertone. For better or worse, very reminiscent of Fat Tire.

Lighter bodied than expected with a surprisingly dry, crisp finish. Very slight lingering bitter and sweet.

I'm not sure what's going on with Local Option in terms of business and distribution. I thought of them as a Chicago based boutique, but I bought this bottle in San Francisco, and its label says it came from Maryland. Whatever the case, I'm glad to be able to get them out here.

500 mL bottle poured into a tulip.

Appearance - Very murky dark orange. Big off white head. Good retention with a decent layer of foam.

Smell - Some citrus hop, but it's got a lot of malt. Deep caramel. Some grain. A toasty aroma, too.

Taste - Toasty malt is dominant here as well. Citrus hop is again faint, but present. Almost a burnt caramel flavor in the back. Grainy and a minimal bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Smooth textured. Medium carbonation. Creamy body.

Overall - It's growing on me. Nothing wrong with it. Uninspired maybe, but a decent pale.

Dark amber with and orange hue. A dense two finger head forms and slowly settles to a thick cap. Heavy lacing is left down the glass.

Aroma of tropical fruit, bread, and grain.

Fruity flavor up front with notes of orange, grapefruit, and mango. Surprising bitterness in the finish with and aftertaste of orange pith.

A bit overcarbonated but otherwise has a solid, somewhat full texture.

Just an above average beer. Nothing about wheat spoke to me. Tasted like a hoppy amber ale. I wonder what this would of tasted like if they used a weizen yeast?

Pours to a nice thick head and generous lacing all the way down. Good retention. Murky amber color. Aroma is spicy/piney hops, sharp wheat and soft, sweet, biscuity pale malt. Flavor is a sharp blend of bready, crackery grains and a spicy, piney, bitter finish. Mouthfeel is light and a bit rough but tolerable. 6% alcohol hides very well. Good Quaff.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and no other beer defines this addage more. Murky unfiltered brilliance accentuates a hearty apricot hue. The head was thick, frothy and stiff with a ton of lacing.

The scent is brilliant with caramel malt leading the way. Tons of orangey citrus with a lemon scent, ending in a straw or wheat finish.

The taste does not follow the nose as barley malt and bran lay heavy on the tongue. Lots of caramel malt keeps the core with a nice hoppy finish.

Overall this is described as spanning several styles and I tend to agree. A bit schizophrenic but mighty tasty, this is well worth a try.

Reddish amber orange body, good clarity, some fluffy foam that leaves behind a soapy collar at first, becoming patchy on the surface after a couple minutes.

Aroma is fairly interesting, vaguely floral with some basic grainy husks and toasted malt complexity as it warms.

Flavors of multigrain toast, light vegetal hops, sustained bitterness in the finish. Fairly simple and understated, dry and malt forward with a light hop bitterness. Medium body, ample carbonation. Pouring the yeast in added some smoothness and a hint of fruity esters. Simplicity works in some cases, not sure what this is trying to be though, with little info to go on from the label.

$5 for essentially a local amber ale, not too surprising considering how Local Option prices beers.
Guess the jokes on me...

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a quite hazy caramel amber with a thin white head that dissipates quickly to a ring around the glass. Aroma of dry biscuit malt and slight nuttiness, hay and an odd earthy component. Flavor is toasted and biscuit malt, brown rice crackers, wheat and a hint of citrus. Odd finishing bitterness, hops and something more like the bitterness in some vegetables, slightly astringent. Malty. Light to medium bodied. The intent here seems to be a hybrid of malty ale and wheat ale, and it seems to exactly that, but not that well integrated. The malt is nice and there are some interesting flavors here, but I'm not sure I would come back to this one. This is not a pale wheat ale.
