American Pale Wheat Ale |  6.00% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
At the peak of summer 1631 King Gustavus Adolphus led thousands of Swedish troops into Northern Germany. Following the destruction and subsequent plundering of Brandenburg Adolphus’ army marched through the endless wheat fields en route to Bavaria. Brewed with copious amounts of red wheat, Blood ov the Kings is aromatically driven by bread, biscuit and notes of exotic fruit. Hazy and medium bodied the beer has a rich and creamy mouth feel with a dry, bitter, and slightly sweet finish. Unbound by the Reinheitsgebot Blood ov the Kings would certainly have been the vital fluid of victory for the Swedish monarch as he spilled blood across the wheat fields of Northern Europe.

A: The beer is very hazy light amber in color and has some hints of yellowish hues along with lots of particles floating in suspension. It poured with a half finger high light beige head that gradually died down, leaving wispy patterns of bubbles on the surface, a collar around the edge and some lacing down the sides.
S: Light to moderate aromas of wheat are present in the nose along with strong notes of biscuit and caramel malts.
T: The taste is somewhat similar to the smell, except that there are also strong notes of peppery spices that stand out and linger through the finish.
M: It feels a bit shy of being medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The particulates add slight amounts of chewiness to the mouthfeel.
O: This beer seems to taste like a hybrid between a wheat beer and an amber/red ale.

500 ml bottle into pint glass; no bottle dating, but was a recent release. Pours hazy deep reddish copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, lemon zest, caramel, wheat, bread, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of hop and malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, lemon zest, caramel, wheat, bread, floral, grass, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, orange/lemon zest, caramel, wheat, bread, floral, grass, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of citrus hop and caramel/bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good hoppy wheat ale. All around good balance and robustness of citrus hop and caramel/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

500ml into a cervoise.

A: Pours a muddy red with a nice egg shell head.

S: Grapefruit, grass, caramel, biscuity.

T: Taste brings leafy bitterness, caramelized grain, mild wheat, pithy citrusy bitterness, tobacco.

M: Medium-bodied with creamy carbonation.

O: This was ok, a little too dry and not very exciting.
