Included in a "Beer of the Month" club box. Beer was consumed in May, 2006 with notes taken. Finally got around to writing a full review.
A: The beer poured a dark-ish amber: lighter than expected given the beer's odor...
S: The aroma of the beer before pouring into a glass suggested the use of roasted malts. After pouring the beer into a pint glass, the odor of stale malts became quite apparant.
T: It tastes just as stale as its odor suggests. Earthy, but not in a good way. There is strong taste of burnt coffee.
M: The mouthfeel is inconsistent. Smooth sometimes, thick at others: none of them pleasant.
D: Nearly impossible to finish, the only reason I drank the entire bottle was for the purpose of offering a complete and credible review. I could never imagine including this beer in a session, let alone a single serving.
Given that samplings of the remaining bottles exhibited the same characteristics as the beer that I fully-reviewed, this ruled out the possibility of a spoiled bottle. (What are the odds that ALL of them were spoiled?) I never thought I would ever say this about a beer, but this may have been the single-worst drinking experience of my life. Avoid this beer at all costs.

Another good beer at Sacramento Brewing Co. More copper in color than their American Pale Ale. Soft tan head, faded quickly. More hop presence as well, made smell and taste more bitter as well. More smooth malty taste the the Miner's and noticibly different. Straight hoppy finish. Thin bodied, but well balanced.

Medium copper color, medium white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet. Mild nutty and sweet malts, nicely hopped. Nice taste, slightly bitter. Good flavor. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, with a touch of sweetness.

Well I otta! In a river no less. Poured a clear lightly amber color with limited head and next to no lace at all. The smell wasnt much better with next to no aroma. Maybe a touch a caramel after swirling it a bit.
The taste was malty sweet and more present then the nose would indicate. A definite English style with some sugary caramel mixed in. Almost like a sweeter Bass. Not much on a hop presence, but if you look for it some tone down herbal flavors are picked up in the background.
The body is low to mid, but still present with no real watery flavors. Limited carbonation. Although not a bad beer, nor their worst, there is room to improve.

Bottle from BevMore in Sacramento. Poured copper to amber with a very foamy white head that reminded me of soapsuds. Left good lacing. Nose of sweet malts with some hops and flowers. Mouthfeel average with nice flavors of malts and hops. Nice bitter finish. Interesting how variable the reviews are of this brew, but maybe it helps to purchase it in the town it is brewed as I imagine it is sure to be fresh.

12 oz twist off states it is in the "Burton Style"
poured copper amber (darker than I expected) with a small head
smells of homebrew with stuck fermentation, residual maltiness and mineral
caramel flavors and that same malty residual, no hop finish, no bittering
a bad experience and reading the reviews, I was not alone
wife poured it out. I struggled through it

appearance: took me off gaurd a bit as it poured much darker than excepted. the beer is a deep amber color. ok head
smell: same funky malt smell as i get with their ipa. I don't like it here or in the ipa, but it is more subduded here. wierd ripe fruit but in a bad way.
taste: don't write home to mom about this one kids. still it is drinkable in a uninspiring way. i'm detecting non of the bad malt taste from the smell, but also no hops like one would except. just a bland slightly sweet beer. this beer suposed to be english.
mouthfeel and drinkability: these are both good.
notes: I wish the brewery with the name of my home town were better. Their beers range from bad to mediocre...with the exception of Red Horse, which to me a pretty good sessionier. Why pay 6.99 for this...when their are countless better beers. Not recomended. (i knew better but i was just bored with the selection and took a chance.)
