Pours misty dark golden with a small creamy white head, turns to froth soon and sticks generously to the glass.
The aroma straight-up punches you in the face, a thick, dense smokiness, just like sticking you nose in a campfire. There's a lot of peat, too, and you can even get the Scotch. If you take a bigger whiff, you might be surprised by a lot (a lot!) of chilli peppers, really really prickly. A bit of caramel sweetness tries to encompass everything, but it's totally overwhelmed. This does not bode well.
The first sip was a cautious one. But there's no need, happily. There's great clear "wet" Islay Scotch in the front, with just the right amount of peat smokiness. There's a lot of wet stave, too, almost funky, with a bit of De Dochter yeasts surely at work. A bit of lemon zest, some faint apricot and apple, right on top of a tiny bit of malt sweetness. Towards the end you get the peppers, warm, not too hot, prickly, perfectly married with the smokiness and some wood in the dry finish.
Aftertaste has peat and barrel, some chillies (with a faint veggie note lingering, like peas or green pepper peel) still packing that warmth, and some grassiness. Light to medium in body, medium carbonation. Alcohol well handled, with that Scotch just pinching.
This was not as "furieuse" as expected. Really intense, sure, but nothing that would be hard to drink. Big fan of peat, so that should be taken into consideration, too. I'm somewhat disappointed that i actually liked it this much. Hah.

From a 17.6 oz bottle with a Best Before of: Nov. 2016
Pours a hazy pale/orange. A mostly white foamy head tops the beer. Heavy sticky lacing follows dissipation. A beautiful “day after the house fire is out” smoke flavor dominates the nose. Smoky and Peaty = Happy Happy Joy Joy. First sip is tasty…tasty I tell you tasty - much like the aroma. As it warms, a pepper flavor appears and becomes a full partner. “If you’ve been injured in a wreck…call Peat, Smoke, and Pepper.” There is a lovely crispness here as this puppy is fresh. That crispness will be gone over time. It adds complexity and balance to the peat, smoke, and pepper. This beer will never be better than it is right now. So drink ‘em fresh. Though a tad on the light side, it is still well carbonated comprising a much appreciated mouthfeel. Another great De Dochter. 7%ABV
