Cherry amber with webs of lacey white froth.
Smoke, some red fruit and waxy yeast.
Honey on brown toast, lots of iodine, some cough drop, orange peel, and noble spice to finish.
Peachy end and dry bitter linger.
Medium, fizzy, round and creamy.

A smoked hoppy amber? Not getting the oats because this was a gusher. But there is restrained smoke, solid hops and balance once it settles.

This one is a bit of a gusher. Smokey smell from afar.
Huge head, only managed to get two fingers of actual beer in the glass. Guess we sit and wait now. Sticky foam, lots. Dark amber colour, a bit hazy. Tiny floating bits.
Obvious smoke in the smell, smoked ham, straw, bit of green hay. Some fruitiness also, smoked dry apricots, apple peel, bit of citrus.
Taste of grain, caramel and some fruity acidity (apple, pear, faint cherries) in the front, followed by a yeasty characteristic. Not a lot of smoke in the taste, subtle, but present, a bit of ash in the aftertaste. Some faint barnyard notes, wood, faint pine and flowers. Green finish, bitter and mildly dry.
Medium carbonation and body, soft. Great aftertaste of hops, some funk and faint smoke.
Great balance of fruitiness, smoked malts and that small hint of Brett. Tasty, quite refreshing and a nice gateway beer for people that haven't really acquired a taste for smoked beers (yet).

Drank from my Duvel Tulip

A - Pours a murky orange copper colour with no head, no lacing

S - Smokey malts and medicinal aromas

T - Nkice and balnced in flavours with spice, smoke and malts but the finish is a little stringent in medicinal sweetness

M - Medium to full body with light to medium carbonation

O - I like the balance of this beer but the finish is a little off putting.

Bottle: Poured an hazy dirty amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of peat malt with some candi sugar notes and a bready yeast is quite singular. Taste is a mix between some smoky notes with light peat notes also discernable, some Belgian malt with some residual sugar that cuts through some of the smoke notes and a bready yeast to finish it all. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting mix between a Belgian amber and a smoked ale though smoked malt could be more pronounced.

Got this one at Geers. Awesome place.

From a bomber into a snifter
Best before February 2014

APPEARANCE: Pours a 2+ finger, medium looking, fluffy, off-white head with great retention. Maroon red in color, perfectly clear and very low levels of carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a good foam cap and leaves some thick lacing down the glass. Splotchy wisp and lots of lacing. Looks great.

SMELL: Smoked malts, some leather, as well as some light caramel and dark chocoalte on the nose. Well balanced with a nice smoke component.

TASTE: Less smoky than the nose. It's actually wonderfully balanced. Some smoked malt are there for sure, but some nice caramel sweetness provides a great check up front. Some dark bread, leather, and dark fruit dominate the middle into a smoky and bitter swallow. Big and persistent aftertaste of smoked malt, dark chocolate, floral bitterness and a touch of melony sweetness as balance. Medium strength in flavor, but this is a pheonmenally complex and balanced smoked beer. Great stuff.

PALATE: Medium body and higher levels of carbonation. Airy and light on the palate, goes down fine and finishes slightly sticky on the palate. Too carbonated and airy, but settles a bit as the beer sits.

OVERALL: Like their Belgian IPA, the nose doesn't really match the flavor, but regardless, the flavor really comes together well with this one. Very complex and excellently balanced for sure. The palate needs to be beefed up for this to really get over the hump, as the feel holds the flavors back from being all they can be, but for now, it's a beer you should check out if you get the chance. Quality stuff. Cheers guys!

A copper, orange beer with a creamy head, moderate carbonation.

Smell is smokey with ash-like smoke, like a smoking barbeque. Notes of tobacco and a light peat smell. The malts are present, but the smoked malt dominates the smell.

Taste is smokey with clear peat-like character. A peat whisky resemblance is present. Some bandaid taste, maybe some iodine. The beer has a low bitterness and is a little sticky on the lips. The beer is nicely balanced, but the peat is what the beer is all about.

Pours nice red with a thick bubbly head. Aroma seems to be heavy with oak flavor, including vanilla and a slight fruitiness. Flavor has a tannic astringent bite with some acidity and a vanilla finish (more hints of oak). The flavor seems thin at first but seems to thicken as it warms. I emphasize that this beer should be allowed to warm somewhat from refrigerator temperatures as the flavor improves remarkably. Overall the beer seems to be dominated by oak flavors, though this is not unwelcome.

I bought this beer two weeks ago when i was in Belgium. I already had a beer of this brewer a few days ago and that was a good one. On the bottle a special sticker with "Bravoure o.a.s.e. Oak and spice experiment 2011". Best before september 2011.

Now this one. Poures in my Struise glass the beer is dark orange to lightbrown. Nice and frotty head. No carbonation.

Smell is good with some burned malts and light oak with some smoke.

The smoke comes back in the taste. Mouthfeel would have been a bit better with some more abv.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a bright orange color and a cloudy texture. There was an inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Very good lacing.

S: There was a somewhat fruity aroma, with smoky undertones. An interesting aroma.

T: Tasted of light fruit, malt, and very definite underlying smokiness. The smoke is certainly present, but it doesn't ever overpower the flavor. Slightly thinner than I expected, but generally well done taste.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: On the whole, this is a solid, likable beer. A bit different than most smoked beers, but good nonetheless.

A: The beer pours a clear, light amber color with a finger of off-white head.

S: Smells pretty smokey. Underneath the smoke, however, is a nice light fruitiness. A bit of sweet bread and toffee malt, as well. Maybe a hint of tartness, perhaps lemon peel.

T: Quite smokey and woody, almost a touch salty. Fairly bitter, too. Not as much in the way of sweetness as the nose demonstrated, and nowhere near the level of fruit.

M: Medium bodied with medium to low carbonation.

O: The smokiness was a bit harsh which isn't what I like at all.

Bottle shared by Dan – thanks!

Pours a hazy golden-copper color with a white head that leaves decent lacing.

Smells of crisp light malts along with moderate amounts of smoke and earthy hops. Also present are mild amounts of medium fruits and bready aromas.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Light malts up front are joined quickly by medium fruits. Joining in shortly thereafter are mild breadiness and larger amounts of smoke. Very slight musty hops and funk come into play near the end, fading out into a crisp ending. Mouthfeel is good, with smooth carbonation.

Overall this was a very interesting beer that’s well worth a shot.

Pours a very cloudy bright yellow with a splash of red. A thick frothy head dissipates quickly leaving a ton of sticky lacing clinging tightly to the glass. Sweet smells of smoke easily dominate the nose. Some malt and fruity hops contribute in minor fashion to the overall aroma. First sip is smoky but not over the top. A strong malt backbone matches the smoke and adds to the overall experience. Perfectly carbonated makes for a great mouthfeel. Very nice!

$4.49 for a 11.2 oz bottle from Discount Liquor in Milwaukee.

A: very nice amber colored beer, nice rocky head when poured
S: great nose, clean, crisp with a hint of Brett (?), reminded me a bit of Orval
T: taste is reminiscent of the nose but disappointingly thin and watery, Brett noticeable, however, just way to weak in body, surprising despite ABV
M: watery and thin
D: watery and thin, needed more guts but highly drinkable

From Notes:
Look:Poured into a Chimay goblet from a 12oz. bottle. Pours amber/orange with a long lasting 1/2 inch head, mediocre lacing.
Smell: Pale malts, funky yeast and a light apple with some earthy notes. Only a hint of smoke.
Taste: Bread right up front, fresh country white style. Some earthy hops and a barnyard funk follow, with a little smoked hickory ham, mild but nice.
Mouth: Light and smooth, easy going down.
Drink: I couldn't do the rauchbier but this was nice. They're a bit pricy for a 12oz. ($6.99, City Beer Store), but if you have the chance, grab one. A very nice beer.

12 oz green bottle.

Pours a murky orangeish brown. It is pretty carbonated and produces a large off white head that dissipates with some decent lacing.

The smell of this one is intense. It has a pinch of skunk but not too much. There is a huge barnyard funk going on with it, it smells a lot like brett. There is some underlying fruitiness as well. But mostly it is a bretty beast.

The taste has a good amount of brett as well. There is some fruitiness as well. But the main flavor is a nice malty smokiness with hints of cocoa. Some people say the Bamberger Rauchbiere have hints of bacon, I would say this one has more of it though it is faint.

The mouthfeel is good, slightly creamy.

Overall it is a quirky but good beer.

Green bottle but no noticable damage. Poured with a good sized foamy frothy cream colored head that lasts for a while and some lace. Color is hazy and has a tarnished copper amber. Aroma is malt toasted oat cereal hint of smoke. Flavor has smoke show much more with a touch of sweetness and some yeast. Not too complex, but not bad. Slight tang also. Good body and carbonation. Finish is smokey at first then tangy ending with a touch of alcohol.
