poured into a pint glass:

a nice clean amber pour with a tiny amount of head which quickly disappeared. smells of fruits and nuts up front.. smells like a barleywine honestly. the taste is very boozey up front with a nutty backbone, hints of fruits and toffee. very lightly carbonated, medium bodied, surprisingly smooth for the abv, yet still warms your chest up a bit on the way down.

i picked this up because i'm originally from argentina. i had a quilmes once and it was garbage.. i read up on regia and it seemed like it wouldn't be much different, this one though - it stuck out. it wasn't bad, and it was definitely a lot better than the tasteless quilmes lager i had.

I was in Eagle Rock, CA/USA and paid $6.05 USD for a bottle of Otro Mundo Strong Red Ale.
Look: Otro Mundo Strong Red Ale had low foam.
Smell: Otro Mundo Strong Red Ale had an aroma of molasses.
Taste: Otro Mundo Strong Red Ale had a sweet vaguely gingerbread taste.
Feel: Otro Mundo Strong Red Ale had excellent carbonation and good alcohol content.
Overall: Otro Mundo Strong Red Ale would be a good beer to drink while eating heavy Argentine cuisine.

Expecting another pale lager, pleasantly surprised to find this interesting brew. Tangy, winelike flavor from a hazy copper-orange body. Light taste lingers on the palate. Malty brew is very satisfying...

This beer is the best beer that can be found on a store-shelf in Argentina. I can only find it at Gallega supermarkets and one restaurant in the pueblo I live in. Even though it may not be the greatest beer in the world, it feel like it to me after having to succumb to Quilmes and all the other crap beer they have here. It got so bad that Quilmes Bock was my go-to beer.

I had read about Otro-Mundo online but didn't see them anywhere. Then one glorious day I saw the strong red ale at the supermarket. Finally, a beer that reminded me of something I would buy at home (Boston).

As far as flavors go, I don't taste raisin, butterscotch, pear, crushed granite, or all the other crazy flavors I've read here . It has a bold flavor, it's kind of sweet, it has a nice coloring and a nice alcohol content. I like to feel the warmth. It's not very hoppy which I actually appreciate as I think I'm starting to distance myself from the mega-hop wagon. It's around $3 U.S/500 ml. bottle here so I always grab everything they have.

I like the serving size although for some reason the bottles aren't returnable here like Quilmes, Brahma and others (And that's a big thing here. If you don't bring a bottle back when buying another bottle cashiers look at you like you're crazy).

Thank you Otro Mundo!

Amber reddish color with a thin head with short retention, but leaving laces.
Fruit aroma with predominant notes of apple juice, cherries, bubblegum and caramels. Hints of guaraná powder and brown sugar.
Likewise fruity and relatively medium hoppy flavor with notes of dank herbal hops that fades later, cherries, anise, yeast, guaraná, molasses, nutty malts, butterscotch, pear, white grapes and raisins. Dry and fruity aftertaste with a medium bitterness.
Light towards medium body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 7.5% abv is felt, but does not bother.
Sweet fruity beer, not exceptional, but also not bad. Decent complexity, but a bit cloying sweetly.

A: The beer is relatively clear reddish copper in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that quickly died down, leaving a thin film of bubbles covering the surface and a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderately strong aromas of fruity yeast are present in the nose along with some hints of caramel malts.
T: The overall taste is quite fruity like the smell but also has some notes of sweetness and hints of caramel malts.
M: It feels a bit shy of medium-bodied and slightly thin on the palate with a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite drinkable for the style and completely hides any traces of alcohol. It's quite enjoyable, especially if you like aromas and flavors of fruity yeast.

500ml bottle served in a snifter. Apparent bottling date of Oct. 2011.

Poured red-amber, slightly hazy, with a small and short-lived off-white head. Smells of light, medium and caramel malts with alcohol esters and a good bit of fruitiness. These features also show up in the taste is similar, but with some balancing bitterness, less fruit and a major note of lightly roasted nuts. Lightly sweet. Near medium body is a touch watery; medium-low carbonation; semi-dry finish.

O: Caramel/malt bomb with subtle, but perhaps above average, complexity for a red ale.
