A 12 oz bottle from the Brass Rail Deli.
A: The ale is dark, looking like a glass of Pepsi (minus the heavy carbonation). A finger of head is leaving a trail of foam.
S: The nose has candi sugar mixed with dark malts. The sugars are very sweet, setting the tone from the get-go.
T: Any underwhelming aspects in the nose are pleasantly addressed in the taste. Rich flavors, candi sweet, was over the tastebuds. Dark malts have a chocolate undertone, syrupy but not too sugary. Candi sugars become more intense as the ale warms.
M: The mouthfeel is very sweet, too sweet at times. That said, the fingerprints of Two Blind Monks are all over the ale.
D: I would not be able to get through more than two of these.

On tap at Capone's.
According to the brewer, this was orginally supposed to be their Two Blind Monks but ended up having too chocolate malts. I agree with that assesment as I got the Dubbel in the background with the heavier chocolate. This keg was ~1 years old.
Poured a dark brown with almost no head (what head was off white). Aromas of roast, some dark fruitiness (cherries), and chocolate. Tastes of dark fruits (the same dark cherries), stronger chocolate, and lighter roastiness. Light to medium alcohol in the fnish.

a: This was a clear coppery color, not very dark. It poured with a medium sized, fizzy, light tan head.
s: For the abv, this smells pretty hot. I got some raisins with a hint of rubbing alcohol and roasty grains.
t: Up front, this is pretty good. Candied sugar, raisins, and a little chocolate. The finish though is dry and floral, with a little medicinal rubbing alocohol. The latter is faint, but distracting.
m: Decent body and active, fizzy carbonation.
d: I'm always up for something new, but this one fell a little short.
