Update: September 22, 2012

So I stopped by Moe's this past Saturday after a long absence, my loss. This place just gets better and better. Along with My Place in Newtown, CT, my fave beer joint in this next of the woods, by far. The beer is always World Class, that's a given, but what sets this place apart is that it is unpretentious and comfortable, with fabulous music always playing. It reminds me of the small, local bars I grew up with in the NYC area. The owner, Josh, not only knows beer, but is a great host. I was also very excited to visit the new package store he has opened in the front of the same building, which houses Moe's. As with the tavern, unpretentious, just great brews and a nice easy going vibe. I wish I could grade this one even higher than 5.0 across the board. Thanks to Josh and keep doing what you are doing; we beer geeks appreciate it. If you have not made it to Moe's, get there; I guarantee you will have a great experience!!

Update: December 28, 2009

Had to visit Josh's joint again before the end of the decade. Boy, am I glad I did. Check out the draught line-up that was running on this snowy Monday in the Berkshires:

DFH 60 Minute (house beer @ $4)
Troegs Nugget Nectar
Stone Arrogant Bastard
Rogue Yellow Snow
Boulder Obovoid
Anchor Christmas 2009 (!)
Elm City Pils
Left Hand Milk Stout
Pretty Things Jack D'or (American Saison)
21st Amendment Monk's Blood
Bear Republic Heritage (Wee Heavy--see separate review)
Avery Old Jubilation ('Tis the Season)

As I have to drive an hour to home, I only had the Anchor and Bear Republic with a taste of the Pretty Things and Monk's Blood (thanks Josh).

OK, so if you folks have not made a special trip to this beer oasis, make a New Year's resolution to do so, for real. Wow!!

Moe's is THE BEST bar in the Berkshires by far!!

The "No Coors Lite" motto says it all. Definitely a place for people who know and appreciate the wonderful world of craft beer. The atmosphere/vibe of this place is perfect. Very nicely decorated with lots of fun and interesting signs, patches, etc. The bar is lit up nicely to complement the ambiance.
Moe's is the perfect size to facilitate interaction with other craft fans- not too big, not too small, with comfortable seating at the bar or a number of different tables.

Chalk signs on the wall display the tap list, which is beautifully picked out- a perfect selection of all different styles from popular craft breweries to local ones.
There is also a huge selection of whiskey.
The bartender was very knowledgeable, perceptive, and made great recommendations.

I wish there were more bars like this, but then again maybe not, because that's what makes Moe's special- it's one of a kind for this area.

Moe's is truly craft beer heaven!

I'm stoked to see this place getting such great reviews. The beer selection is unmatched, and the decor of the place is just awesome. It's a little small, but, honestly, that doesn't hinder my love and respect for this place...Come to Lee MA and check it out! You won't be disappointed!

Moe's is an amazing place to have a beer. Not just a beer, but the best beers that America has to offer. It solely serves the best of American Craft beer, so you certainly won't find a Coors Light in the cooler. Instead you will be greeted by a bartender that can direct you to a full flavored craft American Lager from a microbrewery as a much better replacement.

They have plenty of beers on tap which usually range through some of the more popular craft beer styles, so you'll have plenty to pick from. If you want to wander outside your favorite styles, they'll be happy to recommend something new, and because they only stock the best of the best, it's sure to be a good example.

I live in North Carolina, but frequent Berkshire Country and this is always my first stop on my way into town. If you are a beer lover, this is a must go to.

Josh, the owner, can usually be found hanging out there and is very friendly with all his customers. Even though I may only get in there every other month, he and the bar staff always remember me. It's a nice little home away from home.

Cheers!

Moe's is a must visit place for those who appreciate great beer. Tucked away on a little side street in Lee, Massachusetts, this clean and cozy establishment offers a fine array of bottled beers,as well as a great offering of tap beers. The service was excellent, and I am sorry I didn't get the guy's name behind the bar,but he was knowledgeable and efficient! It was a pleasure to have an Allagash White served at the right temperature and in the right glass!

The only thing that could make Moe's perfect is if they offered some kind of things to eat...unfortunately they stopped doing this a couple of years ago. Fortunately, there are several decent places to eat within walking distance, but they do allow you to bring in food.

I was pleased to find out that Moe's now has store front right on the other side of their bar location...I met Josh, the owner of Moe's,as he was manning the newly opened store. The great thing is the selection, featuring locally crafted beers,as well as many others...some you may have even sampled at the bar! Josh is definetly into what he is doing, and it shows. So sample some beers at Moe's and then walk around the corner to Trader Moe's for take-home!

This little place deserves all the praise it gets. What a great lineup of beers. Great eccelctic atmosphere...multiple themes.Very interesting stuff...posters, cans, skis...you name it.
Popped in on a very quiet Monday afternoon after riding up Greylock's newly paved road...both sides..ouch, I need a beer NOW. Pretty Things ... Field Mouse Farewell ..Green Flash IPA. 13 good ones to chose from on tap and a really impressive bottle list.
The kitchen was closed, but the bartender said it was Ok to bring in food. She gave me a few suggestions around the corner.
Too bad that I rarely am in Lee, but I would be a regular if I was anywhere near it.

8-11-10 I am raising my ratings on service and selection. I have been in twice after my initial visit. I love this place ! The owner was training a new bartendar and they were both very cool. The selection is great...everything on tap was quality. I think I have to look for more excuses to be in the area so I can go here.

Update 2012 : I have been here several times now; about once a week in the summer.I have gone to lots of beer bars in the past 7 years. This, IMHO, is the best anywhere. Great beer selection, service
( it's either the owners tending bar or somone else who knows beer and makes you feel welcome) friendliness,atmosphere,vibe...always meet interesting people there.I have brought friends here; recomended it to others...everyone thanks me for letting them know about Moe's.

Moe's is awesome! I was contacted by another Beer Advocate member to check it out the next time I was in the Berkshires and it was a great suggestion. What a great beer bar! No food, but that is ok. I was there for the beer.
I met the owner who is a good guy, a self proclaimed ski bum, and is always looking for quality beer to offer to his customers. The day I was there he had DFH 60 min IPA for his house beer and was really promoting Founders.
Next time I am driving through on I-90 I will not stop at the regular rest area in Lee, I will stop at Moe's.

What a nice place - I wish I could trade my local and highly regarded 15-tap bar for Moe's Tavern. I've only been to Moe's once and we were the only customers in the middle of a weekday afternoon. The owner was in and out, but he and the hired help were veryl friendly and made us feel at home. I had an Allagash Tripel and maybe my wife had a Dogfish Head 90, but there were plenty of good options. We had another 1 1/2 hrs of driving ahead of us and not nearly enough time, so we couldn't stay for seconds. I don't pass through Lee that often, but we'll make a point to stop from now on.

I finally made it out to Lee to check out Moe's Tavern...about time!

Found it pretty easily, right off the main drag. I thought it was funny since Moe's has tons of craft brew signage on the windows and not more than 20 yards away is some dive bar that has just MBC stuff. Its like the bizzarro Moe's or something...

Anyways, Josh (the owner) is the man. He was bartending on a relatively quiet Sunday afternoon and really took care of us. Super friendly and very passionate about good beer and his place.

Taps are full of great stuff. They are also expanding their taps as well so be on the lookout for even more great stuff. Josh updates the taplist on Moe's Facebook page everytime they kick a keg...that's dedication!

They had the following on tap when we were there:

Sixpoint Apollo Wheat
Great Divide Denver Pale Ale
Brooklyn Lager
Green Flash West Coast IPA
Southern Tier Choklat
Flying Dog Garde Dog
Dogfish Head Chicory Stout
Left Hand Smoke Jumper Porter <---- AWESOME
Victory Golden Monkey
Young's Double Chocolate Stout*
Dogfish 60 Miniute IPA*

They also carry a ton of great bottles!

The decor is great, total beer lovers place. My wife and I were both saying we just felt comfortable having some beers in Moe's and wished we lived a few blocks from a place like it.

Food is enough to keep you going. I had some 60 Minute hot wings which were pretty good and we shared some damn good sweet potato fries. Service was excellent as well.

I only have great things to say about Moe's. We loved it and will go back soon! Cheers Josh, thanks for being such a great host!

My only regret about this place is that I do not live closer to fill his part time tender's opening that being said, This place is Great. A few minutes after i walked through the door I was in love. Was it their similar affection for craft beer? Was it that they knew me by name(first and last)? Was it their awesome Tap selection? Was it their even slightly more awesome bottle selection? The overall Ambiance of a sweet little craft beer bar parked in a nice quiet town nestled in the berkshires? Friends I have no answers for you this day..Possibly on my next trip there I will have the answers that you seek. I reccomend this place to anyone who has the capability to get there, and the love for great brews as i have. this will be a place you will not forget. friend them on facebook as they update their tap list there regularly.

Prost!!

This place is a must stop if you're in the area.

I follow them on Facebook and the on tap selection is ever changing, it's great!

Walked in for the first time the other day and was greeted by name. First and last name. I was a bit shocked to say the least, and the beer is top notch.

I also heard their dogfish 60 min wings are award winning, but the kitchen is closed and under renovations. Also is full of kegs, lol.

The owner know his beers well. And know what glasses to pour them in. Excellent establishment.

I'm from Lee and go to Moe's regularly, so I'm a somewhat bias.

Moe's has opened me up to a new type of beer drinking. No more Bud Light or Coors Light for me. My brother took me there a couple of years ago, and I've been hooked ever since. There's a great selection of beers (no Bud or Coors Light). There are 13 taps that get rotated regularly, except for the Moe's house beer, which is Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA. One of my favorite things to do is "blend" the beers. Almost anything can be mixed with Atwater Vanilla Java Porter.

The atmosphere is great. There's always good music on. Usually Sirius Classic Rewind or Lithium. There's also 5 TV's with the NFL Sunday Ticket for football watchers.

The owner, Josh, is great. He's a real down to earth guy that you can find either at the bar or behind the bar almost every day. The bartenders are knowledgeable about the beer selection.

If I had a complaint (which is minor), it would be the lack of food. They used to serve it, but had to make some changes. But they don't mind if you bring in some food or even order something to be delivered.

I only hope that Moe's is hear to stay for a long time!

Well, again what can I say. I grew up in Lee and left 13 years ago to the beer heaven we know as Colorado. When I left the best thing you coule get was a Sam Adams. Wow how times have changed. Everything was top notch and it sure felt nice to sit down at a bar where there was something to drink, and man did he have a list. He had just opened when we visited in Nov., but you could tell that Josh was making something special. Like I said having grown up there, I was a little aphrensive that he would make it, because it is a watered down macro area, but he sure has seem to have done it. Worth the trip off the Pike to check out this little gem.

I love the eclectic atmosphere. Simpsons paraphernalia, pulp fiction references, craft beer posters,... this is my type of place. The wife and I hiked Mt Greylock and this is right on the way home. The place is very clean. Clean draft lines, fresh food. I've never gotten better service anywhere. Josh is the man. We sat down and he went over every beer on the taplist with us. Our food order came out very quick. Everyone was so friendly. Open dialogue throughout the bar. The least pretentious craft beer bar that I've ever been to. Awesome selection. About 13 beers on tap... 0 wasted. All carefully selected. KBS keg in storage. Food menu is short but sweet. The wings and burger we had was very tasty. Everything was very reasonably priced. I have to restate - Josh is the man. Awesome place... may be my favorite.

So I guess I'll go at this review piece by piece. The atmosphere was good from the point of view that there was a lot going on (flat screen tvs, beer signs, and the bottle list written on chalkboards). However, the regulars at the bar were welcoming and willing for conversation. Also, the bartender was EXTREMELY courteous and available. The conversation certainly took precedence over the tvs. So the atmosphere in the end was great because of the people in the bar.

In my humble opinion quality and value go hand in hand. Because of the really good bottle list and the fact that the taps on hand were awesome representatives of domestic microbrews; for that, what they cost was exceptional (and reasonable going with the vernacular of the website). Think about it, if you are going to have a Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA bottle, you GOING to have to pay for it...it's 20% alcohol! (With that said, keep an eye on the draft list, they are going to have 120min on draft, and from what I gather, a GOOD price...so definitely KEEP AN EYE on Moe's). When it comes to it, HAVING that availability of beer lends itself to prices of over $3 a beer.

It was a slow Sunday afternoon, so the bartender was more than able to keep an eye on us and when we were ready for another beer. But because it was slow we were able to talk, and it seems that Moe's is dedicated to keeping a knowledgeable staff. If a bar is going to serve beer that can reach high ends of the ABV spectrum, then it's important to have a staff that is knowledgeable about their beer.

Selection was great, the tap list centered on domestic microbrews...some I haven't heard of yet (as I frequent bars in the Pioneer Valley). The bottles also had great domestic microbrews as well as a few foreign.

As for food, I normally go to a place that has a GREAT beer selection, but no food. So to me, Moe's has great BAR food. I emphasize BAR food because it's not pretentious food, it's no frills bar food that can help you have a few more beers. With that said, it tastes great. I had the mini-burgers and sweet potato fries. Wicked soft buns on the burgers and tastey fries. It's food that helps you out, tastes great, but DOES NOT take away from the beer. Moe's CENTERS on the beer, and helps you out with the food they offer.

In the end, if the owner is true to his vision of offering QUALITY beer AND having a knowledgeable staff, then this is a true departure than other tap halls in the Berkshires. Moe's appears to be a place that is FOCUSED on the beer that they serve. If you live in the Berkshires, then it is MORE than worth it to take the drive down Rt. 7 and 20 to Lee. Compared to other places in the Berkshires you are going to get outstanding beer at a place that focuses on the beer (not other things like wings). If you're in the Pioneer Valley, take the hour it takes to go west on the Mass Pike to check this place out. It's a different kind of place that is willing to focus on a great beer selection, so give Moe's a shot.

An excellent tap selection that apparently rotates frequently. I was there twice over the past two weeks and noticed quite a few changes upon my recent visit. A strong west coast representation.

All tap selections are written on the windows and all beer selections are written on chalkboards throughout the bar. Practically, 100% american craft beers. The only foreign beers that I noticed were the Unibroue's.

Service was excellent with the bartender having a good knowledge of the selections. They are more than happy to offer up a sample without even a request. The owner, Josh, was there both times and you can tell that he is hell-bent on making the best beer bar in Western Mass. My vote is that he has already accomplished this.

The food was typical pub food that doesn't get in the way of why you are there. Try the Dogfish wings. Quite good.

To sum it all up...if you are bombing down the Mass Pike and you pass by exit 2, you have missed an excellent opportunity to try some of the best craft beers this country has to offer.

I took my two sons (12 and 9 years old) and my dad (70+ years old) and we all had a great time. My kids loved the wings, sweet potato fries and Saranac Root Beer. My dad and I loved the Southern Tier Choklat stout on tap. Josh, the owner, was friendly and engaging as was the rest of the staff. I'm going to make Moe's Tavern a regular stop whenever I visit the Berkshires.

On Tap:
Dogfish Head Aprihop
Troegs Rugged Trail Nut Brown ALe
Berkshire Brewing Raspberry Strong
Atwater Vanilla Java Porter
Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA
Abita LIGHT
Victory Saphir Pils
Sixpoint Apollo Wheat
Southern Tier Choklat
Young's Double Chocolate Stout
Dogfish 60 Miniute IPA
