I really like this beer. Not as deep as PU/Czechvar but there's no mistaking its bohemian heritage. I always walk out of the package store with at least one $0.99/16.9oz bottle. You simply can't beat that!

12 oz. bottle poured into pilsener

L: almost gold, a bit darker than many pilseners ... 100% crystal clear, and so effervescent ... looks like a scientific experiment going on in the glass! bubbles and bubbles and bubbles. tidy but thick white head of foam almost 1 inch that stays about 1/4-inch think because so much carbonation is still rising well after the pour; sticking and lacing with a huge collar of foam. perfect

S: biscuit malt, some grassy/spicy hops in back; some saltiness in there, almost bacon-like; as we get going, starts to take on some of the floral/peach/fruity notes you taste ... might be the tasting is affecting the smelling here, but it's nice either way

T: wow ... super sweet bread malt that's almost fruity (English pale ale-like) ... peach; very floral, but there's a definite black-pepper bite in there. it's just a tad watered-down from some of the best pilseners I've tried, and there's no big American-style hop bite here -- but, man, this is good stuff. has just a hint of butteriness like an English brown ale.

F: not as dry as you can get with the pilsener, just a bit juicier. a bit thin, but at 4.4% ABV, I'm willing to pass it all off as "very drinkable" ... and it is, loads of carbonation help fluff up the body

O: yet another solid installment in the pilsener family ... perhaps not my absolute favorite, but whereas some showcase more hops or more bite, this brew is a full-on fruity sweet version and would be a perfect gateway beer to the more bitter pilseners of the world. good brew!

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a clear golden color. The head is a finger high and eggshell in shade. The retention is quite poor and its texture is rough looking. Only a modicum of lacing is left on the glass.

S: Aromatically, it's rather dinky - not only is the hop profile muted, so is the malt backbone. There are some buttery touches; again, it's really faint. Its maltiness comes through more vividly once it opens up, but it's too little and too late.

T: Huh. This tastes cardboardy, there's no way around it. There are touches of grape around the middle and a mildly bitter finish - unfortunately it doesn't save it. I don't think it's super old, but it tastes pretty oxidized to me.

M: This is reasonably thick for only 4.4%. On the other hand, it isn't dry or crisp enough to go down effortlessly. Well carbonated, though, so it's not entirely undrinkable.

O: This one is meh city. Not only is it not what I want from the style, the cardboard taste kills it even further. With Pilsner Urquell so readily available, I see absolutely no reason to return to this.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium golden yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation streaming from the bottom of the glass and some pale yellow highlights. The beer has a half finger tall sudsy foamy white head that reduces to a large patch of mottled thick film and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of bready malts with moderate aromas of sparkling apple cider (initially but it fades after a few minutes). Light hints of grassy hops.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of bready malts with a light to moderate amount of light fruit (apple) sweetness. There is a light presence of grassy hops which impart just a touch of bitterness which does not linger for long.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Crisp upfront and smooth towards the finish.

O: Easy to drink and refreshing though not overly complex or interesting. I'm not sure that I would go out of my way to find this one again but it goes pretty well with spicy foods.

Picked up at the local beer store, let's see how well it compares to actual beers in Prague.

Pours a nice fizzy foamy 1 finger head that fades pretty slowly, just a little lacing though, it's crystal clear with a slight small sediment all over mixed in somehow, a golden but watery looking tan colored beer.

Nose isn't too bad, a typical Czech lager actually but not quite as good as the ones in Prague, some grainy toasty malts, a soft layered lager malt base with some complexity, little grassy, with mild grassy hops, not nearly the hop character as most Czech lagers I had over there, and overall a bit lighter, but not skunked or ruined... at least yet.

Taste starts with more of the sweet malts, grainy toasty cereal malts, little sweetness, little watery too but not bad, soft layered malts. Then hops, and plenty of them this time, earthy and herbal mostly, little grassy leafy, starting mildly bitter but ramping quickly, and even a touch of a fruity character. Lager brings the slightest sulfury and mineral note, but mostly soft and crisp. Finish is quite bitter with a long lingering herbal grassy hop note, little fruity, mild toasty straw malts, and somewhat crisp lager.

Mouth is lighter bod and a little watery but not much, lots of popping carb, mild soft lager crispness.

Overall not bad, nothing really ruined, a hint of sulfur note but not much if any, hops eventually kick in although not the same bright hops I remember from Czech Rep, but decent malt profile and lager notes, well rounded, little light on the malts and body though, but still just a step below most of the beers I had in Prague.
