Purchased from the Belmont Station in Portland, OR on my first visit to the store.

This beer looks great, is crystal clear and has a decent head on top. Her nose is a bit timid, and could use some kick. Perhaps some additional Nobel or Saaz hops are in order. Flavor is OK but when in the same game as many great Czech Pilseners, you really have to be on your toes, and this beer fall a bit short. But, after a few more drinks I am getting into the beer more and I would say that It's worth a go. If you a fan of pilseners don't pay to much attention to ratings, just give it a go and decide for yourself.

Pours golden-yellow with a white head that fades into a thin lace. Smells of clean grains, grassy (I guess) and a lot floral noble hop notes. Tastes mildy sweet. Pale malty flavors. Vaguely metalic and a lot of floral, aromatic hops. Noble hops (saaz I'm sure) dominate the palate. Slight bitterness keeps the beer refreshing throughout drinking it, along with the fairly high amount of carbonation, giving it a sharp "nip" when you swallow each gulp. Drinks easy. Not a bad pils, a fine standard example of the style.

A quite hoppy Pils with little malt balance. The appearanc eis golden with and nice hoppy nose and yes the hops do dominate this brew. As said before quite hoppy so not the best balance for this Pils. Smooth moutheel silky yet cleansing and astringent. The pucker at the end leave the drinkability a little lower than other Pils.

Pours a medium amber with white pillow head. Aroma is classic Czech pills, not overpowering, but a nice kiss. There is a hint of smokiness in the taste, malt sweetness, and finishes with a nice slight hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is luscious and drinkability is very high. Nice solid beer, an excellent Czech pils-though not one that is the typical yellow gold.

I re-reviewed this after having tasted it a lot more recently.

this is exactly what a well-done pilsener should be -- a pale, low-ABV lager. very much a session beer.
light straw gold color, very very bright with good clarity. not great head retention, but it IS a pils.
no esters, no diacetyl at all. very dry. pale malts here, but its a very light beer with nice soft mouthfeel. no harshness at all. the main flavor component is the saaz hops. nicely aromatic and spicy. bitter enough to make it interesting.
very little aftertaste at all.

the package says it's brewed traditionally with open vat fermentation, locally-made malts, traditional saaz hops and long lagering time. i highly recommend this one.

Poured light golden with thick white head. Decent lacing.

Smells of malt, maybe a bit of corn and grainy.

The taste is grainy, maybe a bit skunky. There's no date on the bottle. A faint hop bitterness and sour grains.

Mouthfeel is smooth and light, leaning toward crisp.

Smooth, mellow, easy drinking.

An OK beer, but I don't think I'll ever have another.

This is an above average pilsner. For the price you're unlikely to find any better. What else can you say about a pilsner... above average = this one doesn't suck. for the price = bargain beer. Go buy it and see if I'm wrong.

Yeah, this a review from memory, but I used to buy this by the case, so trust me. I really can only tell you that to my taste buds, pilsner taste either bad, good or very good. Most taste bad, they reminde me of lawnmower beer, this one tastes good and occationally I've had an excellent pilsner, but only from tap. From a bottle, pilsner can only be so good and I think Rebel is as close to that limit as I've had.

Appearance: The beer pours with a hesitant head that is thick and leaves fairly thick lacing. The brew itself is a medium dark gold. Very pleasant first impression.

Smell: Floral maltiness is detected as strong component of aroma. Additionally, the hops aroma appears to be aromatic rather than high alpha hops. There is a Euro Lager feel to the body.

Taste: Well, this isn't a Euro Lager, and it's a little off for a Czech Pilsner....but not too much. There is a buttery grain essence for the duration of flavor curve. The grain flavor is welcomed, but the buttery element is not welcomed.

Mouthfeel: The mouth/palate impression is quite forgetable. Not good not bad. The flavor onset is a little subdued. A slight ramp-up with a moderate duration sustain. Very very average.

Drinkability: This is a moderate presence brew. HOWEVER...the low alcohol content certainly raises the drinkability. This helps ofset the rather palate pasting of aftertaste.

Prosit!

Good looking dark golden clear bubbly body with a nice big head. Smell is floral and fruity with a dry biscuity backbone. Clean and balanced flavor. Some pine, lemony citrus cut nicely by a spicy hop bitterness and yesty fresh baked bread and sweet toffee like malts. Good sharp carbonation makes for a crisp and refreshing mouthfeel. Maybe just a little metalic skunky aftertaste comes out, but not bad. Overall very clean and skunk free. Probably the least skunk filled European lager I have ever had. Nice beer.

Nice golden brown color and plenty of carbonation. I used to buy this frequently because it was only 2 bucks for a 16.9 bottle. Of course with prices going up, it is no longer only 2 bucks. Anyways... It wasn't something that you would go out of your way for, but it did have some nice qualities that you would consider picking up a bottle or two along with a 6pk of something else.

Pours a light orangish amber, slight nose typical of a Czech pilsner, sweet hops and malty scent. The taste is very crisp and clean, lacks the depth of character in both hops and malts that some other Czech pilsners have, still, this is a solid example of the style and the kind of beer where you could have one, or two, or three, just about anywhere.

I got this as part of a world of beers 10 pack. I suspected that this would be a typical, run of the mill, slightly skunked Heineclone. I was pleasantly surprised. I usually don't like European pilsners. I suspect that the primary reason for this is because pretty much every sample of this style that I have tried has been at least partially skunked. This is probably because green bottles lend themselves to skunking, and green bottle Euro pilsners don't seem to survive the long trip to the U.S. very well.

This beer was not at all skunked. It poured a golden amber, and it left a thin white head. The taste was clean and pretty dry. I recommend this beer, but it's hard to make sure that it hasn't skunked. If you can find a fresh bottle, then you should give it a try. You'll be pleased.

Appearance: Light golden-pilsner color and two-finger head.
Smell: Nothing too special here, just a good old Czech pilsner.
Taste: A little bland. Less flavor that desired. Light hoppy and grassy tastes. Very subtle fruit or spices flavors are just noticable.
Mouthfeel: Like your everyday pilsner.
Drinkabilty: Good session beer. This is light enough in flavor to never overwhelm, but still a little boring sometimes.

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. Poured a clear golden orange with a good bit of carb although the 1/2 inch white head disappeared as quick as it formed. Smelled like a typical lager with minimal hops coming through, nothing much to speak of there. The taste was decent though very faint. Slight hop bite with apple, pear type sweetness. Heavy on the carb but it suits this beer well. Light, crisp and easy drinking. Not overly flavorful but would definitely pair nice with some brats, onions and kraut. Throw in a hot summer day and this could make due.

Deep dark golden yellow. Strong odor of cheap skunky beer, like bud. Very little head. Smell is overwhelming while the taste is barely there. Sharp bite on the mouthfeel. Starts out bitter; slightly sweet in the middle and on the very short finish. Not impressed yet somehow less bad than I expected.

APPEARANCE: Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Pilsner glass. Pale golden. Clear with lots of tight carbonation. Head is a frothy white 3/4" crown, a bit sticky, with chunky bubbles, which disipates quickly.

AROMA: Light sweetness and mild dry grain aromas. Also picked up light hint of grape.

TASTE: Light bodied. Light malt. Dextrin sweetness. Floral hop flavors, grain dryness and a hint of lemon and herbs with light hint of grape.

MOUTHFEEL: Very light in the mouth with a watery feel. Carbonation was lively. There was a light sweet flavor both initially and at the finish. Finish was of medium length and tongue hit was in the front and middle of the mouth. Fair body lacing that persisted for an average amount of time. Light metalic flavor at the finish.

DRINKABILITY: Nice, light, authentic Bohemian Pilsner. A decent value. I would try it again but won't go out of my way to find it.

A: Poured into a Hobrau stein glass. Appears a clear golden color with a huge white head that exhibits good retention. Looks quite nice.

S: Smells like some sweet pale malt with some herbal noble hop aromas. Kind of unexciting.

T: Initial wave of honey-like sweetness, some clean grain, and a nice herbal hop flavor that finishes dry with some lingering herbal sweetness. Very simple but I like it.

M: Light to medium body with good carbonation.

O: A very nice and simple lager. I'd pick this up again for $2 per 500ml bottle. I'd love to have this with some kielbasa or stuffed cabbage with mustard, kraut and potatoes.

A: Golden clear with average head retention and lacing.

S: Grassy notes right off the bat. Not hoppy...as it should be.

T: Well OK. It should be hoppier. It is smooth and has a grassiness many good pilseners and lagers do. More than a hint though. Dominant grassiness which is a tad off. Medium bitterness up front but no hop flavor as should be in a pils. Malt flavors are more dominant.

M: Medium mouthfeel.

O: A bit disappointing. Missing is the hopiness of a true Czech pils. Your average German Pils has more. Fairly smooth but a bit more grassiness that there should be.

Darker than most pilseners. There is not much of a head but there is evident carbonation.

Strong corn smell. No hops that I can smell of but there is a grassy smell.

Good carbonation with a sweet flavor that leaves a small residue on your tongue. Minimal hop bitterness and flavor.

Easy to drink with good balance but would like more hop flavor in this beer, this is a pilsener after all.

A rebel beer this isn't, just your average european lager.

Appearance: Rich, crystal clear gold color, with small, quickly-fading head. No collar or lacework to speak of.

Smell: Surprisingly fruity, almost like an ale. Plums and hints of banana, in the main. Mild hop character.

Taste: Very faint sweetness, which is quickly overwhelmed by the tartness of the flowery hops. A pronounced buttery character manifests on the way to the dry, hoppy finish.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, with a surprisingly restrained carbonation for the style. It's still festively bubbly, but not as much as other lagers I've had.

Drinkability: It's a good, solid lager, but I think I'd grow bored with it in short order. Then again, I feel that way about most pilsners, so take that with a grain of salt.

12oz bottle (no date code, drank 9-22-2010) into Dartington ultimate lager glass. 1 inch white head reduces semi-quickly to a cap with no lacing left. Clear pale gold color, a bit darker than the usual garbagey pale yellow of cheap lagers.

Aroma initially a bit of a vegetal spicyness then as the head disappeared, a sweet malty aroma came up. Taste: as the carbonation pricks the tongue like soda, iimmediately a very sweet grape and orange juice/soda (without the sour acidity) comes in and overwhelms. Aftertaste is a bit of desultory citrus rind bitterness on top of a bit of biscuit malt.

Almost like a slightly under-carbonated soda pop with tinge of bitterness. Too sweet but so drinkable like soda because it kinda tastes like soda...

This .5L brown bottle of Rebel poured a crystal clear deep gold color. A thick white head dissipated slowly, lacing slightly on the glass.

Rebel’s aroma was a little skunky at first, but the skunkiness quickly faded to allow aromas of toasted, bready malt and spicy noble hops to come through. Far in the background Rebel had an almost smoky undertone to its aroma. Pleasant.

This Rebel had a full, round toasty malt flavor and a delicate, yet assertive hop bitterness. Hop flavor was spicy and ever so slightly herbal. Altogether a crisp clean flavor, which finished dry and left a pleasant lingering bitterness.

Rebel has a light to medium body a full mouth coat and moderate to low levels of carbonation and a light carbon dioxide bite.

This is a beer I have been meaning to try for a while… and I’m glad I finally did. I haven’t tried a Czech beer that I haven’t liked yet… but this was one of the best that I’ve tried. Highly recommended… if you don’t mind a little skunk.

I'm a bit disappointed by the appearance of this beer. It's got a rich golden color, but virtually no head. A scant ring and cloudy only seconds after the pour. I've got a case, so I'll update the review if I get different results in the future.

As for smell, I've got a bit of malt and some spicy hop. The hop stands out.

Served, at cellar temperature, the beer tastes great. It's full bodied and loaded with flavor. Just a bit of carbonation, but plenty of hoppy bitterness to provide some zing.

For mouthfeel, it's a little rougher than some of the other brews from this area but still, a nice mix of soft and clean.

Overall, a fine beer. I've got to take off a few points for the relatively minimal smell, but quite good.

Light carbonation and very little head. Head was creamy and white, very small and faded quickly.

Color is slightly darker than the "American Pilsner yellow". Clear beer with small and sparse carbonation bubbles. Inviting nose includes munich malts and a slight hop nose.

Flavor is slight but complex-- dextrin, followed by a bright hoppy note and a mellow long slide toward bitterness as the sip leaves the tongue. Very drinkable, goes with anything, and the price is pretty good.

1 pint 9 0z. bottle poured into pint glass

Appearance- A foamy 2 finger off white head and a pale to medium gold color.

Smell-small malt smell and hint of spice and grape notes.

Taste- Yeasty bread taste at first and a hint of grapes which is quickly followed by a bitter spicy hoppines which lingers for a while.

Mouthfeel-Very light in the mouth with a watery feel.

Drinkabiility- A good pilsner, didnt love it but didn't hate it. I would try it again but won't go out of my way to find it.
