There are 3 inches of creamy white, bubbly fluffy head that leave crusty, sticky lacing. The beer is a very clear, rich gold. Big Saaz nose: spicy, almost cinnamon. Very nice. Starts crisp, fresh, fruity with some serious caramel through the faint, tingly middle. Finishes nicely bitter, dry, crackers. Some nice grain. Not bad at all. Some nice caramel and grain with temperature. I like it. (392 characters)

I got this as part of a world of beers 10 pack. I suspected that this would be a typical, run of the mill, slightly skunked Heineclone. I was pleasantly surprised. I usually don't like European pilsners. I suspect that the primary reason for this is because pretty much every sample of this style that I have tried has been at least partially skunked. This is probably because green bottles lend themselves to skunking, and green bottle Euro pilsners don't seem to survive the long trip to the U.S. very well.

This beer was not at all skunked. It poured a golden amber, and it left a thin white head. The taste was clean and pretty dry. I recommend this beer, but it's hard to make sure that it hasn't skunked. If you can find a fresh bottle, then you should give it a try. You'll be pleased. (796 characters)

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is very mild, some malts. Taste is crisp, slightly sweet, some malts and fruits, very flavorful. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and goes down with ease. Overall this is a high quality brew. (273 characters)

1 pint 9 0z. bottle poured into pint glass

Appearance- A foamy 2 finger off white head and a pale to medium gold color.

Smell-small malt smell and hint of spice and grape notes.

Taste- Yeasty bread taste at first and a hint of grapes which is quickly followed by a bitter spicy hoppines which lingers for a while.

Mouthfeel-Very light in the mouth with a watery feel.

Drinkabiility- A good pilsner, didnt love it but didn't hate it. I would try it again but won't go out of my way to find it. (497 characters)

A decent bohemian Pilsner.

Looks and tastes remarkably like Pilsner Urquel, not quite as good, but for the money a tasty brew.

Clear golden, well crafted, with plenty of long lasting carbonation. Great ice-cold.

Smells like hops and skunk, the way a pilsner should.

Tastes a little weaker than the more revered czech pilsners, but has it's own unique citrusy bite and enough skunk to taste Czech. Not as sweet as some of the others I've tried, which I like. Clean and Refreshing.

A little thin and weak, but easy to throw down at the end of the night or on a hot summer afternoon, and at 1.29 for a half litter, the price is right. (649 characters)

Drunk from 16.9 fl. oz. bottle in inverted cone style pilsner glass.

Appearance--golden brown with limited head but very solid lacing down sides of glass. Pinprick size bubbles continue well into drinking the class. Very appealing.

Smell--gentle yeasty smell with a little of the Saaz hops to it.

Taste--early bitterness in the middle of the tongue. Hints of granny smith apple combination of tartness and sweetness early in mouth. Mellows into toasty/wheaty flavor on the upper palette.

Mouthfeel--surprisingly chewy. Carbonation is nicely balanced.

Drinkability--goes down nicely. Would go well with wiener schnitzel and hagymás krumpli (potatoes boiled and then sauteed with onions) or perhaps some not overly fatty pork sausages. The pucker on the tongue would leave me at least wanting to have something to eat if having more than one glass.

I had left Rebel alone after a couple of not-so-good bottles. After this one, I will definitely be drinking it again. (971 characters)

Single, twelve ounce bottle copped from Total Wine and More in West Orange for $1.49...
Pours a dark-golden hue with evident carbonation, an impressive head and a minor amount of lacing around the edge of the serving glass...
Faint aroma with hints of corn, grains, biscuits, and malts...
Taste strongly complemented the smell, with a thick bread and butter, nutty flavor that was crisp, clean, and refreshing...
Light to medium bodied mouthfeel, no alcohol detectable, very refreshing stuff and a good depiction of the style... (528 characters)

Picked up at the local beer store, let's see how well it compares to actual beers in Prague.

Pours a nice fizzy foamy 1 finger head that fades pretty slowly, just a little lacing though, it's crystal clear with a slight small sediment all over mixed in somehow, a golden but watery looking tan colored beer.

Nose isn't too bad, a typical Czech lager actually but not quite as good as the ones in Prague, some grainy toasty malts, a soft layered lager malt base with some complexity, little grassy, with mild grassy hops, not nearly the hop character as most Czech lagers I had over there, and overall a bit lighter, but not skunked or ruined... at least yet.

Taste starts with more of the sweet malts, grainy toasty cereal malts, little sweetness, little watery too but not bad, soft layered malts. Then hops, and plenty of them this time, earthy and herbal mostly, little grassy leafy, starting mildly bitter but ramping quickly, and even a touch of a fruity character. Lager brings the slightest sulfury and mineral note, but mostly soft and crisp. Finish is quite bitter with a long lingering herbal grassy hop note, little fruity, mild toasty straw malts, and somewhat crisp lager.

Mouth is lighter bod and a little watery but not much, lots of popping carb, mild soft lager crispness.

Overall not bad, nothing really ruined, a hint of sulfur note but not much if any, hops eventually kick in although not the same bright hops I remember from Czech Rep, but decent malt profile and lager notes, well rounded, little light on the malts and body though, but still just a step below most of the beers I had in Prague. (1,624 characters)

my friend paul and i used to get these on queens blvd for 99 cents alot, a few years ago. no glass to pour into, just bottle. always impressed us, especially at the price. we used to pack a bag full with 16 or so and go to town. I don't know if he still drinks them-being in hell a and all. I stopped drinking them because I came across uniformaly skunky ones all the time. it was a good ride in the late 90's, but I awitched to ballantine ale after all the pepe le pew. none the less, it had a great price and great drinkability in its time. another friend, who is czech still swears by these, and brings a case to most bbqs. not that easy to find in the five boros anymore, but i think i will seek one out as i'm getting sentimental writing this thing. (754 characters)

Presentation: 12oz brown bottle. Regal looking label. No freshness date.

Appearance: Pale golden. Clear with lots of tight carbonation. Head is a frothy white crown, a bit sticky, with chunky bubbles.

Smell: Light dextrin sweetness and mild grain aromas. Also pick-up some grape.

Taste: Light bodied. Light malt. Dextrin sweetness. Tea-like floral hop flavours, a flash of lemon. Grape, like concord grape. Herbal notes, grain dryness and a slight metallic flavour on the palate at the finish.

Notes: Nice, light, authentic Bohemian Pilsner. Very refreshing. (570 characters)

A darkish yellow sub amber color. Carbonated, medium-sized bubbles, thin but persistent head. Slight malt aroma, tad of skunk trace. Very crisp flavor, retains crispness well. Hop bite is more upfront. Pleasing aftertaste. Classic Pilsner flavor profile, which leaves me with little to write. Qaulity brew, refreshing, and certainly not complex. (351 characters)

APPEARANCE: Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Pilsner glass. Pale golden. Clear with lots of tight carbonation. Head is a frothy white 3/4" crown, a bit sticky, with chunky bubbles, which disipates quickly.

AROMA: Light sweetness and mild dry grain aromas. Also picked up light hint of grape.

TASTE: Light bodied. Light malt. Dextrin sweetness. Floral hop flavors, grain dryness and a hint of lemon and herbs with light hint of grape.

MOUTHFEEL: Very light in the mouth with a watery feel. Carbonation was lively. There was a light sweet flavor both initially and at the finish. Finish was of medium length and tongue hit was in the front and middle of the mouth. Fair body lacing that persisted for an average amount of time. Light metalic flavor at the finish.

DRINKABILITY: Nice, light, authentic Bohemian Pilsner. A decent value. I would try it again but won't go out of my way to find it. (898 characters)

Golden yellow with a sticky white head. Has good head retention. Smells like spicy saaz hops and grains. Has a meduim-light body with a little bit of carbonation that can be felt on the tounge. Taste clean with a spicy saaz hop up front and a grainy metallic finish. Rebel is true to the style and goes great with any heavy meal. (329 characters)

The beer pours a nice golden hue with a thin white head that has some retention. The aroma is very nice. As I'd imagine a Czech hop garden to smell like. This has all the makings of a great Czech pilsner, but there is a slight soapy aftertaste. It's not big and not real annoying, but it's there. Otherwise, this tastes pretty damn good. Some spicy saaz hop tones. A good solid malt footing to work upon. Floral notes. Herbalness. Really pretty damn nice. (465 characters)

straw colored, small head, typical (?) pilsner . . . . ?
smell is... interesting. got that malty aroma i remember liking from certain brews in my distant past, but not sure if i still do with a refined set of taste buds....
taste is.... decent. got that weird bready taste, but that was desirable in a yesteryear taste... czech beers used to be relatively tolerable but i've had some real downers.
this is tolerable, i suppose, but after a couple plinys it's not cutting it. but to be fair, it's tolerable... (508 characters)

16.9 oz bottle, no freshness date.

Pours out pale straw and sits golden amber in the glass with a 1/2 finger fluffy white head, nice lacings, and likes to stick around for the show.

Aroma is all malts, sugary sweet. Some nice, light floral background to it, smells kind of like tulips. Fruitiness is minimal, some fresh apples and green grape skins.

Taste is a full, malty presence. Sugary sweet with fruit concentrate like characteristics, apple primarily, some grapelike sourness as well. Hopping is purely herbal, adding a very mild spiciness to the mix. Finish is nicely bittered.

Voluminous in the mouth, medium body, smooth, rich and very mild, natural feeling carbonation. Easily fits into your mouth in every way.

I have no major quarrels with the beer. It's look, smell, taste and feel is all there. Granted, it's nothing to sing about, but it doesn't dissapoint. Bottle is drained with ease. (916 characters)

This pils is an active clear, bright dark gold color. It develops a pure white head on top right over a finger tall that sticks around, surprisingly dense and rocky, and leaves good lacing as it falls.
Some grains and a red grape note set the tone, an interesting pils with a touch of floral and citrus, extremely light on the hops but they are present, with a balance of malts to complement. Even for a light style, just a little more strength would do.
The taste follows suit pretty well, the light grape notes with an unoffensive foundational grains note balancing with something a little dryer in the malts and a little brighter in a citrus note, but with a leafy, herbal element coming out on the end.
The body is as light as expected but not boring, even veering toward medium almost, with a semi-dry feel as, rather than clashing, somehow a dryness mingles with the sweeter, maltier elements. It's consistently crisp and has a nice underlying smoothness as well. (969 characters)

A: Poured into a Hobrau stein glass. Appears a clear golden color with a huge white head that exhibits good retention. Looks quite nice.

S: Smells like some sweet pale malt with some herbal noble hop aromas. Kind of unexciting.

T: Initial wave of honey-like sweetness, some clean grain, and a nice herbal hop flavor that finishes dry with some lingering herbal sweetness. Very simple but I like it.

M: Light to medium body with good carbonation.

O: A very nice and simple lager. I'd pick this up again for $2 per 500ml bottle. I'd love to have this with some kielbasa or stuffed cabbage with mustard, kraut and potatoes. (624 characters)

Pours a clear honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, corn flake, and grass aromas. Taste is much the same with corn flake, grass, and cracker flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

I picked up a few bottles of Rebel whilst at Key Food in Brooklyn. I first got them b/c I wanted something drinkable for dinner. I saw them for 1.25 and thought why not. As they were zapped by the cashier I saw that they were in fact only 99 CENTS. I ran back and got a couple more.

Now to the beer. Overall not my favorite Czech Pils, but pretty good and really drinkable. The mouthfeel is near perfect smooth yet a bit bubbly. Also the appearance is great, orangish gold with a nice foamy white head. The aroma was a bit too skunky, but well within the style. Good taste, honeyish, but again to skunky for my tastes.

For the price, it can't be beat. Get Budvar or Krusovice if you are not being cheap though. (717 characters)

Not a bad beer by any means. I'm not the biggest fan of pilsners, but this may just be one of the best beers you can drink while sitting alongside the pool. Comfortable and easy going. (348 characters)
