I've had this beer once before, I got it because I saw the label and instantly went "I want one!". I remember it being a reasonably good ale, not as hop-driven as I was expecting but nonetheless good [boy was I wrong past-tense self].

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a nonic pint.

A: A nice hazy jonquil body with a minimal white head, an insanely light yellow colour for any ale.

S: Wafting aromas of bold passion-fruit and cannabis with some pine and citrus characters, mostly lemon, which altogether presents a heady hop mix that is most welcome in any pale ale.

T: The flavour is a bit of an interesting diversion from the aroma. Whereas I was expecting a hop onslaught I'm presented with a balanced malt/hop affair. Lemon shines in the hops, with a sweet malt middle giving the whole thing a lemon-candy slant and a strong tea flavoured acidic bitter finish. It's a real page turner this brew! I'm especially impressed by the rich tea tannins towards the end making it taste a bit like an IPA, at 4.6% ABV.

M: Mid to light bodied with a typical near-flat English pub carbonation.

D: This beer epitomises why English real ales are THE SHIT! It's got sessionability in spades, like any good English brew they always know how to make a tasty below full-strength beer. I'm impressed in particular with this brew by the dichotomy between the lemon and the tea flavours, at one stage in this [almost a] pint review I thought I was drinking a lemon-flavoured Nestea only to realise it was a tasty English brew, nuff said.

Food match: Scones, lots of scones.

Wonderful citric with floral notes aroma, multi stage taste that laves a very pleasant aftertaste. It may seem bitter at first, but by the time you finish the bottle it turns into something more light and fruity. Very refreshing and the low ABV makes it ideal for summer days, would buy again!

500 mL bottle picked up at the LCBO; best before Dec. 17 2014. I've been hearing good things about this one, so I was sure to slip a bottle into my basket while beer shopping in London. Served slightly chilled.

Pours an attractive, translucent golden-yellow colour, topped with just over one finger of frothy, loose white head. Decent retention, with a wide collar and plenty of lacing left to cling to the glass as it slowly recedes into a soapy cap. As expected the hops are the primary focus of the aroma - lots of citrusy lemon pith and grapefruit, as well as wet spruce, pine resin, lychee and apricot.

While a backbone of pale malt and orchard fruit sweetness remains present, you'd forgive someone for missing it amongst the staggering array of fruity hop notes. Lychee, pear and mango sweetness greet the palate, with citrusy notes of grapefruit and lemon following soon after. Tangy, with a tart, astringent, grapefruity finish that doesn't linger; fairly dry aftertaste. Light-medium in body, with relatively limp carbonation that is somewhat atypical of the style; a petty complaint about an otherwise fabulous hoppy session ale.

Final Grade: 4.39, an awesome A grade. Oakham's Citra is a fabulous British interpretation of one of my favourite light American styles. This is a pricy brew in our neck of the woods with limited availability (which means it probably isn't a realistic session option for most Ontario BAs), but it's still well worth the effort of tracking down a bottle or three. Great stuff that I hope to return to again at some point in the future, as it's quenching my thirst on this hot, early summer's night quite flawlessly.

Mostly clear straw colour with a smooth, creamy, white head. Good head retention and lacing.

Lovely light Citra aroma. Lemony and tropical. Touches of sharpness.

Mild malt with a sharp, citrussy hop character. Moderate bitterness. Very crisp and simple.

Medium body with moderate carbonation.

A really solid beer. Excellent flavour and crispness.

Pours clear pale gold. Compact white cap quickly recedes, living just a smattering of lace behind. Restrained fruity, citrusy hops and bready, nutty malts in the nose. Grapefruit, lemony, lychee hops upfront quickly get overtaken by maltiness and a fruity English yeast character. Some buttery diacetyl is perceptable in the back. The mouthfeel is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Light bitterness and hop fruitiness in the short finish.

This is a nice English Pale Ale but a bit anemic in the hop department and the hop flavors tend to stand in contrast a bit with that English yeast character. Still quite nice and worth a try.
