What a blindingly good pint. I just came back from a lunchtime session comprising 4 pints of this stuff.

It's very pale, elegant, and strongly hopped. This stuff is so good it could almost pass for Belgian! And at 4.6% alcohol, well maybe it's a little strong for a lunchtime but after a couple I wanted more and more. Highly reccommended.

Pours clear golden, one finger foamy head.
Very nice smell, with citrus and sweet tropical fruit, bit of pine, flowers and dry English hops, nice diversity and balance. A small sniff of toasted grains and biscuits too.
Bitter from start to finish, but with lots of other stuff popping around. Starts with some sweet tangerine, mango, faint lychee, apricot and pear. Mix of green and dried grass follows, dry petals (elderflowers?), grains, faint biscuity malts (cracker-like), with a flavor-enhancing saltiness. Finish and aftertaste have grapefruit, salted grains (what is up with that?! really like it), faint flowery perfume, dry tobacco-like hops, no sweet fruitiness lingers.
Medium body and carbonation, a buttery feel to it, smooth.
Great beer, really set apart from others. I'll be looking out for more Oakham, most of their beers surprised me.

After the fantastic citrus flavours of Citra I'm expecting a decent Bishop's Farewell from this Bishop's Farewell, whatever that entails. I also imagine this beer was brewed with Bishop-like ingredients such as holy water (of course), those white cracker things that are the body of Christ and felt from the Pope's fancy hat, mmmm fancy hat felt.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a nonic pint.

A: These Oakham brewers really seem to like their brews yellow, looks like a yellow Berocca in a glass of water. There is a touch of haze but overall it's clearer than the Citra, with some white lacing for a head.

S: English ale fruity hops, no doubt Fuggles, marries a toasted malt base with fresh bread yeast notes. Whereas the Citra was more upfront with the hops and innovative with its aroma Bishop's Farewell is classic English bitter, no surprises then.

T: Flavour matches the above; fruity hops, toasted malt base, and fresh bread yeast notes. This also adds a bold bitter grapefruit citrus middle and there's a faint raisin sweetness floating around as well. It's a bit more interesting than the aroma would suggest... which is of course a good thing.

M: Medium bodied with a light carbonation.

D: The grapefruit bitter start/middle/finish detracts a bit as the glass empties. I like grapefruit, but like all GRAPE things [that's my pun for the evening] it should be taken in moderation, like my puns - an occasional one is funny but too many and people start getting annoyed by them (weirdly enough). Still a good session pint, though Citra is better... much better.

Food match: A full English breakfast: bacon, fried eggs, grilled tomatoes, fried mushrooms, toast with butter, sausages and baked beans.

From Dan Murphy's. Best before 13/06/14.

Pours a clear, filtered golden. Nice white head, good lacing. Excellent all round.

Nose is English (smelling) hops, Honeysuckle, some cereal. Strong grain smell with some honeycomb. Apricot, some sulfur. Nice.

Taste is creamy honeysuckle, lots more grain, bit of banana.

Mouthfeel is an interesting combination of immediately noticeable sweetness and then a very potent and drying bitterness I associate with English bittering hops. Interesting stuff.

Very nice English-style beer, I really enjoyed it and would buy again. Quite distinctive and unique flavours in my mind.

From Jim's. BB Nov 13.

A - pale straw. Over large bubbles in head look like soap.

S - Citrus hops, lemons.

T - more hope and lemons/citrus/grapefruit. More of a slightly earthy APA than an ESB. Moderate malts at best.

M - lightly carbonated.

O - not what I expected from the bottle, as seriously not to style. Undecided, and I would have served cooler had I known style before opening bottle.

500ml bottle, just out of date when opened on 26 July 2012.

This is very, very simular to the cask version (which is always a good thing).

Pours a pale yellow with next to no white head.

The smell is all citrusy hops with grapefruit coming through, no malt hints at all.

The taste is a crisp grapefruit induced hoppy flavour, again with very little maltiness to be found, some yeasty hints around in the aftertaste.

I’m a malt man, but this has class and deserves the high scores I’ve given it.

This is a very good suprisingly complex flavor of beer. Strong and intoxicating aromas similar to a belgian style ale. Quick hit of bitterness and then finishes clean and smooth. Definitly will not ruin your palet if doing a tasting session. You are only able to taste a light hint of alcohol. Very good beer.
