Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a large foamy head with average retention and some light lacing. Aroma of strong malt notes with quite a lot of residual sugars. There are also some boiled vegetables notes which seem to emanate from the Frontenac malt which is not that pleasant. Taste is also dominated by the boiled vegetables notes with too much residual sugar notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Unfortunately, there is too many notes of boiled vegetables from the Frontenac malt to truly enjoy this beer.

Bottle brought back from QC by Jason and Steve, 500ml bottle into some tulips.

Poured a reddish brown, with a light brown head. Moderate retention. Nose of spicy dark fruit, earthiness and some dirt. Taste is earthy, dirty and has a dubbel-like character. Subtle brown sugar notes, with some sweetness. Moderate mouthfeel, and some interesting drinkability. They're calling this a BSDA, although I kept thinking of this as an earthier, organic dubbel. Nonetheless, nothing I'd readily revisit here.

Gros Mollet pours dark brown and is almost opaque, with an off-white head that has incredible retention but no lacing.

It smells ok, with malt being the biggest player, backed up by yeast and caramel.

The taste is comprised mainly of the same things. Its very malty and isn't balanced very well as a result. For the style, its not bad but its not that good either.

Gros Mollet is slightly oily and is very heavy. Overally, its just ok.

A - Pillowy tan head. Hazy dark red colour. Nice looking beer.

S - Lot's of malts. Mild booze in there as well as toffee and slight caramel.

T - Toffee, malts, not much else really. Sweet.

M - Full bodied and thick feeling.

D - Not my thing. Too sweet, but a decent beer.

This beer was recommended by the proprieter of Broue Ha Ha (http://www.brouehaha.com/) in Gatineau, QC. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for but I'm enjoying it all the same.

It pours an an opaque reddish brown. There's very little light coming through this beer. The head is offwhite and descends to a ring of foam fairly quickly.

The smell is light - raisins, spice and light chocolate flavours are present.

Taste is medium light and very well done. Milk chocolate, raisins, spice and fruit are here and the balance is sublime. It's not going to blow your mind by sheer volume but the interplay is great. Add in the fact that there's no alcohol present and you have a winner in my books.

Mouthfeel is smooth and easy and the light volume of the beer aids drinkability. Enjoy!

Looks ok, some brown body with good foam and a white head. Creamy mouthfeel, malted brown, yeast comes into play later in the body. Some cloves, apple cider. Refeshes, slightly acidic, bit weak for style. Slightly above-average carbonation. Second time, several months later not as carbonated.

500 ml bottle, thanks to Bobsy for opening.

Pours a slightly hazed brownish red, thin dark tan head forms, very fizzy, settles down to a thin ring, leaves a few lace spots on the glass. Smell is okay, caramel, quite malty, some grain, raisin, decently fruity, bit of toast, pretty pedestrian but nice malts. Taste is similar, sweet and fruity up front, raisin and toast, crackers, quite dry, some light floral, pretty neat. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Not a bad beer, pretty interesting if a little simple. Thanks Rob!

Bottle shared by Bobsy - thanks for letting us clear out your fridge!

Pours a light hazy brown with not much head to speak of, color seems just a touch too light, almost watery.

Some nice light malts and caramel play around in the mouth with a faint hop bite in the finish that almost feels "off"/vegetal.

Taste is heavy on the caramel, hints of licorice, toffee. Alcohol shows up in the finish, not hiding the alcohol all that well IMO. Still has the borderline solvent bite in the back that kind of throws me off a touch.

Bottle stated it was a strong brown ale which is probably more along the lines of what it tasted like rather than a Belgian. Not a bad brew but certainly not among my favorites. Thanks again Rob!

For what its worth, I like the design of the label. Now the beer...

Pours a rich mahogany with a wispy beige head. Fruity, toasty nose, with elements of raisin, caramel and brown bread. The flavour seems more like a Belgian dark mixed with an english brown ale. A brown breadiness and slight nuttiness joins a rich dark fruitiness, with prunes, red grapes and raisin in the mix. Alcohol is well-hidden. Medium body and carbonation is appropriate for the style and works well here. This isn't a bad offering at all, and I've never heard of this brewery before. Thanks zorprime for the bottle.

Tasted this beer in december 2008. Picked these at Monde des Bières as soon as they arrived.

First, this is one beer style that I'm having a hard time to like.

Appearance: is typical Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Almost black and can't see through the beer.

Smell: Mainly roasted and chocolate.

Taste: Strong taste of roasted malts. I can't get past that taste, it is strong and the length in the mouth is average.

Overall, an average beer that is probably good for those who like this style.
