Some say “The true test of a great white IPA is to create enough of a malt under structure to support a big beer while at the same time making it invisible, giving a stage to allow the hops to shine.” So We accepted the challenge and produced just that! This White IPA has crisp bold notes of citrus that ring out loudly. Fermented with a traditional ale yeast at 6% ABV and 60 IBU s, and rides on a transparent medium body. The White IPA, Barrio Blanco, is destined to become a desert classic.

Received a sixer as a gift back in February. Born on 1-17-17. Been stored in the beer fridge since then.
Beer poured blond with a nice white head that is leaving lacing behind.
Nose is tropical and citrusy, very nice.
Taste is very unbalanced. Starts of with citrus and tropical notes over a light pale malt body, Finish is green in your face hops.
Mouthfeel is light and refreshing.
Overall this beer has some promise. Hops were left too long in the boil leaving it over the top rather than complimenting the brew. Maybe future versions will be better.

From the can, it pours a slightly hazy light amber with a moderate head, slowly dissipating to a thin layer. The nose gets a bit of pine and citrus. The mouth gets a wit flavor with a bite of hops. Yum!

Nice crisp let's say combination of a light white and an ipa. How's that possible. You've got it here. If you can find it. Drink it. Says enough for it self.

A nice, lithe quickening courses through the beautiful-colored, golden-blonde ale, which poured out of its twelve-ounce can—topped with a creamy-foam diadem—looks more like clarion pils than any form of IPA, white or otherwise. Once one's face approaches the glass (in my case, a Fairhope Brewing tulip-pint), however, the nose tells a different story: a bouquet of dry, herbaceous humulus cones greets the drinker, along with a bit of sour-apple, pear, and pine, likewise squarely positioning Barrio Blanco as an IPA. The flavors, moreover, fit the mould—though with less sophistication than the nose—expressing crisp, piney bitters, along with a touch of grapefruit, that really dominates the mild, light malting.
As aforementioned, this Blanco's a dead-ringer for a good pilsner in appearance, but has none of the fruity depth or crisp, grainy bite that would characterize pilsner taste. Instead, it's more a hopped-up golden-ale, with a lighter mouthfeel and only very moderate sweetness; indeed, it's clear that hops are meant to be the superordinate feature of this ale. The downside of this approach is that the hops really hit one over the head, and there's not much else to buttress or buoy this white IPA; while the hop bill seems, furthermore, somewhat straightforward, particularly given the starring role afforded them.
Barrio's effort is a good, solid blonde-hopper—even sessionable, in a pinch, once you've acclimated through the first can—but it's just a bit too heavy-handed and/or uncomplicated, to my tongue, for it to rate any more highly than that.

Poured a gorgeous clear golden color with one finger of bubbly white head. Very true to form for a White IPA, quite nice. Scents of citrus peel, pine resin, spicy Belgian yeast with notes of white pepper and clove and a slight aroma of plastic. Overall impression of aroma is of a nice Belgian IPA that has a slight off-aroma bringing it down. Flavor begins hoppy and bitter with notes of pine resin, tropical fruit, especially mango and slight pineapple and notes of citrus peel and pith. Middle is dry with notes of grapefruit peel and pith and pine resin. Finish is dry with notes of pine resin, grapefruit peel and pith and light juniper berry. Aftertaste is grainy malt and grapefruit peel. Light white pepper and floral hops pervade throughout at low levels. Overall impression of flavor is of a nice, light IPA with a bright citrus and pine forward flavor. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with light carbonation and a resinous, smooth and juicy feel. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a good White IPA, easily drinkable and pleasant. Overall this is a good White IPA. It has a nice aroma and flavor that is light and bright with a mouthfeel that aids the flavor. The only downsides are the off-aromas in the nose and the somewhat lacking amount of Belgian yeast character. Not bad.
