This brew pours a murky pale hue with decent carbonation that leaves behind a two finger frothy head and sporadic lacing here and there, the smell is fresh ripe banannas, sticky date pudding and noble grassy hops,it has a medium bodied well carbonated mouthfeel with tastes of bananna, cloves, stonefruit, sticky candy and finished with a noble hoppy bitterness but not overly bitter just bittersweet and overall its an average drop that i probably will not revisit anytime soon.

bottle poured into half pint

L - honey coloured, clear, 1cm white head that endures for a while

S - fruitier than typical tripel - mango, pineapple. Also some honey and a hint of phenols and yeast aromas coming up as well

T - Sweet malts and toffee, bread yeasts from front to back. Banana and cloves coming in strongly at the middle. Estery, bitter finish

F - Medium bodied, high carbonation for style, oily texture, ABV is very well hidden.

O - this is the most drinkable tripel I've had - the alcohol is nowhere to be seen, the tartiness and phenols are kept to a minimum. Its a shame that the fruity aromas don't transfer into the taste - that would have been an interesting mix.

A very good stab at a Tripel, the only example I've had brewed in Australia and not far from the mark. This fresh example gives fruit-skin esters on the nose and on the palate - the classic sign of a tripel. Alcohol well hidden for 9.5%. Clean pure finish. Got this for $6 at the local bottlo - will head back and buy the rest of them tomorrow!

21/12/13 Drank from my Mane Liquor Tulip

A - Still pours a hazy copper colour with a one fingered head that retains well and laces.

S - Plenty of spice and citrus. The stickiness has gone.

T - Even more authentic now. The spice is very pronounced and the malt has developed as a nice backbone. The sugar stickiness has largely gone. May lack the finish of a top notch Tripel.

M - Medium body and medium carbonation, authentic Tripel.

O - This has improved considerably over 1 yr. The sweetness has died down and this beer has developed nicely into a Chimay style Tripel. My ratings reflect this experience

Drank from my Duvel Tulip

A - Pours a hazy copper colour with a one fingered head that retains well and laces (3.75)

S - Plenty of citrus sticky sweetness and booze (3.50)

T - Wow actually quite authentic !. Spice and zesty citrus. Hints of marmalaide. The finish is bitter and a little sticky sweet with booze (3.25)

M - Medium body and medium carbonation. Probably the best part of the beer (4.00)

O - Always a pleasure to see these beers attempted in Australia, and even better when they actually have some authenticity about them. A pretty good stab at the style and should benefit from ageing and loose the stickiness (3.50)

Bottle: good quality 330mL brown bottle, funky and semi-stylish label.

Appearance: pours a hazy bronze, with a decent inch worth of head that drops to a thick and creamy one-finger. Looks good so far!

Aroma: there is a definite Belgian yeast up front, with some spices and sweet malts backing up. Perhaps some pitted fruits also.

Taste: follows the aroma - strong flavour and quite bitter. Those fruits - apricots and peaches - as well as spices and bananas. A thick flavour too - lovely!

Aftertaste: remains for some time, moves toward well-disguised alcohol with bitterness and enduring spices.

Mouth feel: medium in body with a light to medium carbonation. Overall a pretty damn tasty beer.

Overall: bloody good beer. Not really sessional, but great for a good-quality hit or a nice relaxing cask ale. The only down point? It's AU$74 for 12 x 330mL, so a 24 x 330mL case would be AU$128 (2012). And that is from the brewery themselves. Ouch!

From brewery. Cellared for nine months.

Pours a hazy golden straw. One finger head dies - clingy lace.

Aromas of booze, apricots.

Taaste is also quite alcoholic and warm. Apricots, mandarins, malts, with a little hop on the finish. Sweet and sour, yes, just like Chinese :-)

Mouthfeel medium bodied, medium carbonation.

All in all, well made, and true to style, apart from the booze presence.

330ml bottle from the brewery, poured into a small tumbler.

Pours an old gold colour with a clear appearance and a white head of foam that falls rapidly to leave no trace of its existance.

Smell is of apricot, sweet apricot and sweetness in general.

The taste has some of the apricot come through with a little spice (ginger and nutmeg). Plenty of vinous alcohol is there as well.

Mouthfeel is flat, undercarbonated, sweet and over the top.

Cellar this, it should lose the booze in the taste. A real night-ender with its slow drinking style and sweetness.

Gusher!
Pours hazy amber with a large, fading head.
Nose shows doughy Belgian yeast, huge spicy phenols and some cloves.
Flavours are a little rough, there's a fair whack of alcohol in there. Also more of the doughy yeast a some soft lemon.
Could use more carbonation.
Nice try, the alcohol is a bit full on though.

Picked up at Carrington Cellars, Katoomba.
The label has "Cellar Release" overlaid, and best before DEC 2012.
Pours murky marmalade orange. Nice tight and dense white head, which I defile by pouring some yeast residue onto.
Strong bubblegum aromas, backed up by some faint banana. Touch musty. Warms to a waxy fruity perfume.
Banana flavour, and noticable alcohol, and perhaps some pungent spice like szechuan pepper or musk. A very late hint of dessert wine, maybe apricots or marmalade.
Slight astringency at the front, followed by some later dusty bitterness at back. Late after-feel that seems a bit rough.
I think it could actually use some time; I am more aware of the parts than the whole, so think it could settle and integrate some more.

Pours a clear bronze colour, with furious, furious carbonation, like massive and manifold streams. Head is cream-coloured and fluffy with big visible bubbles. Sinks kind of unevenly, giving this a nice natural, flawed look. Lace is uneventful. Can see what they were trying to do here, but can also see they haven't quite succeeded.

Smell has a nice fruitiness to it, but is more dominated by a fusel alcohol aroma. Definite whiskey edge to it, which seems to belie a thinning aroma. Touch of vanilla with some apricot and lime marmalade and a slight peach schnapps sweetness. Again, some classic tripel characters but it falls short.

Taste is less in terms of boozey strength, which is a plus, but there are other flaws. Fair amount of fruit and deep malt on the front, giving that slight liqueury sweetness with a touch of canteloupe and apricot on there, jammy mid-palate with a fair dose of cinnamon which is probably the highlight. Finish still has that fusel alcohol robustness to it, but it's less intense a sensation than it is a flavour; and frankly if I could choose on or the other I'd prefer the warming sensation with other more complex flavours to the taste of booze in my mouth. Just kind of trails off and lacks that Belgian spicy phenol on the back. I've seen that character to varying degrees in this particular style, but very conspicuously lacking here. The front is all Belgian sweetness but the finish just has a 'strong ale' feel to it without a whole lot of flavour to excite me.

Yeah, a bit over-warm on the back and a bit too busy midway. Decently full body, but not as much as I'd expect from 9.5%

A decent effort, and I would love to see more Aussie breweries take a crack at this style. While they haven't hit all the right notes here, they've wavered around them a lot and as a result I get the gist. It's quite a tasty beer.
