Look I got a rather vigorous head. This was a bottle I bought and stashed about 6 mo ago,so maybe it built more carbonation in the bottle.

Aroma, solid stouty scents of raisins, dried cherries, and dates. Some molasses and dark chocolate lurking in a deep roastedness.
Not as aromatic as some but a good array.

Flavor. Pretty good. Not one of the best Oat Stouts though. There's a flash of Dark chocolate but overall more leaning to a coffee-ish,and even that's secondary to a dark roasted malt+grain
For an Oat Stout, leans more to the bitter/dry side than most though that could shift as it warms more.

Indeed, warmer it gained a bit of body and sweetness, the coffee taste steps up more and the finish is smoother. I'm getting a little Sherry in the flavor mix.

The finish isn't quite spot on,a little too English dry. Ideally the hops merge a bit with some chocolate or coffee note to do the finish, here it's more on it's own.

Drinkability...I had the whole bomber.. It's a bit burly to drink in bulk but a middleweight stout overall. Finishing it was a bit slow but painless.

It's good beer, and I'd agree with those who say a few tweaks could make it better.

Pours a very dark brown with a huge, fluffy tan head that stays for several minutes. Aroma is mostly bitter chocolate and some roasted notes. Taste is very similar, lots of bitter dark chocolate, with the faintest hint of brown sugar. Not as much oatmeal flavor as I would like. Feel is very thin with lots of carbonation. Would have liked it a little creamier. Decent beer, but nothing to write home about. The best thing this has going for it is the bitter chocolate, and is not the usual sugar bomb that stouts are turning into these days.

Serving type: 22oz bottle poured into a Kona Breweing Co. Pint glass.
A: Pours a dark, blackish, typical stout-looking color with a tan, quickly dissipating 1 1/2-finger head. I'd give it a 4 on the Appearance, based on the quickly dissipating head.
S: Not a particularly strong smell for a stout, but smells like chocolate & coffee. - 3.0
T: Taste is pretty good, though definitely has room for improvement - mildly chocolatey biter taste, almost like a watered-down Sheaf Stout. - 2.5
M: Mouthfeel is similar to most stouts, pretty good, I'd like it to be creamier, but this isn't a cream-based stout to my knowledge. - 3.5
O: Overall I'd say this is a decent oatmeal stout, though I was expecting better because I really liked SC Ale Works' Hefeweizen. I'll see what my ratings average out to, but overall I'd give it a 65-70%.
I was disappointed because I paid about $4 for a 22-oz. bottle, expecting this to be a premium product. I would much rather buy a 6-er of Anderson Valley's or Lost Coast's Oatmeal Stouts or a 22-oz of Sheaf because they are much cheaper per ounce and are superior beers. Definitely not one of SC Ale Works' better efforts.

Damn I question if this is going to be good since the first pour explodes with a full two inch of head that takes a while to settle. Color is a nice tan head and the beer is a dark pitch black.

S - Hard to tell if any off smells but most dark chocolate, roast, bittering hops, and some charcoal.

T - Taste is kind of thin with not very much flavors in the chocolate department. Taste like roasted water with some smoke and coffee roast. Eh,,,

M - This is the worst aspect. Way too carbonated making this way too light to drink ruining all flavors associated with oatmeal stout...

Overall nothing to track down and a far step down from word class examples of the styles. Drinkable but barley passable.

A - Sliver of orange around the edges whit a creamy tan head

S - VERY mild bitter malts

T - Roasty malts, chocolate and an oak-aged like taste. Bitter turn at the end

M - thick feel but low coating. Quick tingle all over tongue

O - Not really my bag due to the bitterness

Black. Very black. Black dynamite black. Khaki four finger head (my pour was a bit too vigorous in my snifter) stuck around for a bit. Left some lacing as the beer was consumed.

Very heavy roasted malt aroma, but that was pretty much it

Roasted malts and a bit sour. Generic bitterness and a semi-metallic finish.

Medium bodied with some astringency. Clean and semi-dry finish, but a bit thin in body overall.

The drinkability factor was very good, but the metallic taste was a bit of a turn off. A bit above average.

A- Poured from a bomber into a pint glass, reviewed live. Massively over-carbonated. Quarter glass pour had the head (admittedly an attractive light cocoa brown) spilling over the top and into my hand. Good start. Very fluffy and foamy head and a deep black body.

S- Pronounced coffee and bitter dark chocolate notes, but otherwise smells like the average oatmeal stout. Maybe even a bit mealy.

T- Coffee and bitterness with some roast malts. Finishes bitter and somewhat soapy tasting. Not great.

M- Way too thin and the carbonation is too aggressive for the style for me.

O- Not utterly bad, but the negatives heavily outweigh the positives for me. Avoid.

Poured from 22oz bottle into a pint glass:

A: Pours an oily black obsidian that shows up brown/red at odd angles. A nice little head appears but subsides quickly. Spotted lacing here and there.

S: Mmmm. This smells really good. Roasted, toasted malts and coffee, chocolate, oats, maybe oak.

T: Burnt and toasted malts and oats. Bitter coffee is prevalent on the end. A bit less than the smell, but still decently flavorful.

M: Not terribly carbonated. Textured, with a medium body. Finishes dry. A good feeling.

O: This wasn't bad at all. I think if they beefed up the bite a little bit this one would rock.

Look: Black as night (pun intended) 1/8 inch tan head and no retention with some spotty lacing

Smell: Copious amounts of oatmeal on the nose with just a touch of coffee and chocolate

Taste: Upfront is a touch of oatmeal sweetness backed up by some roasted malt and a very lingering ash flavor on the finish

Mouthfeel: A bit thinner than medium and mildly carbonated and a bit chewy

Overall: I think this is an above average oatmeal stout and I will happily drink this again

Pours an opaque black with a 1 inch puffy white head that settles to a small cap. Random streaks and dots of lace stick to the glass on the drink down. Smell is of roasted malt, toasted oats, cocoa powder, and slight coffee aromas. Whoa, the taste is not good on this one. I get some roasted malt, oats, and cocoa powder but the overall taste is very watery and not balanced. This beer has a low level of carbonation with a flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty bad beer which is surprising because this one pours and smells very good.

A: poured a dark brown in color with brown highlights when held up to the light and a thin brown head leaving a little frothy lacing sticking to the glass.

S: definitely got a whiff of the roasty chocolate malts some coffee notes, a bit of oat grains, and hints of booze lingering in the back ground.

T: the chocolate roasted malts pretty much dominated the palate with oat grain flavors, coffee accents, and a touch of booze.

M: the brew was medium in body with a fair amount of carbonation which had a sweet, roasty, malty, mild astringent, and slight boozy finish.

D: the brew was drinking real good for a stout and I am glad I picked this up while I was up in santa cruz.
