this beer really doesn't resemble a hefeweizen at all. the appearance is where it comes closest with the hazy gold and thick head, but the aroma and taste are severely lacking in any sort of yeasty esters, or wheat malt character for that matter. and the story about how the bock dark became a nut brown convinces me that this was supposed to be something else. I don't know if it's the kit or the brewer, but this guy should hire a brewer and stick to the pizza... I'm sure there's a homebrewer in the area that could help him out.

The beer pours a hazy gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is average at best. It has a pale malt scent with zero yeast esters and a bit of contamination to boot. The taste is no too impressive. There is very little hefe character here. I don't taste the wheat. I don't taste the yeast contribution. This tastes like a pilsner or golden ale gone bad. It's dry with some serious off-flavors. The mouthfeel is average. It is a low/medium bodied beer with good carbonation. This place makes some of the best pizza I've ever had, but it makes some of the worst beer around. I'm trying to be a jerk. The owner seems like a nice guy, but he needs to start actually brewing the beer with his own recipes and dump the premade extract kits. It's not rocket science.

This beer looked a better than it tasted. I'm sure I'd be happy downing this beer at a picnic as it is better then the typical mass-produced crap, but it was a little bit of a let down. The beer looked nice coming out of the tap, so I had high hopes. The beer was almost like a wheat pilsner (if such a thing exists?). It was crisp, but not a lot of character to it otherwise.
