English Brown Ale |  5.20% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale style originated in the pubs of England, where beer drinkers desired a beer that was both flavorful and complex, but at the same time mild enough to be a session beer. The Santa Fe Brewing Company's interpretation of this style uses a combination of high mash temperature, hard water, and low-alpha acid hops to produce a product that is both true to the style and distinctly Santa Fe. Brewing jargon aside, Santa Fe Nut Brown Ale is an easy-drinking beer, mild, smooth, and always a favorite.

This beer has a lovely reddish-brown color to it. There wasn't much head on the pour and it didn't stick around too long. There's a nice toffee and roasted malt smell to this beer. There's a good toffee/nut flavor initially, after you let it sit for a minute, you get a bit of sweetness out of it. The carbonation is nice on this beer, with a good amount of bubbles lasting throughout; something enjoyable in the mouth.

12 oz bottle poured into tulip glass.

A - Clearish brown with tiny off white head.

S - Caramel, roasted malt, toffee, bread.

T - Has a good sweet roasted malt flavor up front, rounding out with caramel, toffee, and a sort of bready/biscuity malt. Sweet and roasty.

M - On the thin side, with low-to-moderate carbonation. Easy drinking, that's for sure.

O - Better than I was expecting, and this was my first Santa Fe brew. A good solid brown ale, not too sweet or roasty, but lacking a bit in the mouthfeel.
