A classic beer for those beer lovers who love their hops, Happy Camper IPA will take the Pepsi Challenge (or IPA challenge, as we say in New Mexico) against any other pretenders to the throne. Was it divine providence that made this beer the king of the IPA world? Was it a tireless pursuit of glory? No, this IPA has a top-secret recipe to thank for its success, and this meticulously formulated combination of several different hops combined with a very specific brewing process give Happy Camper IPA a spicy, citric, and floral infusion of hop character, which is masterfully counterbalanced with the full-bodied maltiness characteristic of the Santa Fe Brewing Company’s distinctive beers.

This is in my top 3 favorite IPA's. Not being big on IPA's, it's a little further on the bitter side for my taste but everything else makes up for it. The simple graphic design is what originally drew me in having never heard of it and the description on the can solidified that I wasn't leaving without it. Definitely worth trying! It's been in my selection ever since.

This is a great beer/ipa. If you like this, try the modus hoperandi or the upslope ipa. The best of the Rockies. Can't wait to visit the sante fe brewery. Must try their other products. It,s all about the hops. Always is, always will be. Wish I could find 12 packs.

Medium head falls pretty quick leaving a nice lacing with a small biscuity head in the middle of the glass, above a clear golden bronze colored IPA

Heavy hops smell accented with pine and citrus, with a light sweetness coming through.

Citrus and pine hops heavy taste, this is why I drink IPAs, heavy rich hops taste, with just a slight bit of a sweet malt following the initial hoppiness.

A medium bodied beer with a dry slightly bitter hop aftertaste.

A damn good IPA, I think I'll have a couple more of these, later.

This is a GREAT IPA and could tell that from the first sip. Pours a nice light amber color typical of an IPA. Nice hop aroma, not overpowering on aroma. This is a very nice balanced IPA, still some nice malt flavors coming in under the bitterness from the hops. Nothing wrong at all with the mouthfeel. Def give this IPA a try if you like American IPA's like Sierra Nevada Torpedo.

edit: I'm adding that the can I have tastes VERY fresh, which is great for an IPA as they will lose hop flavor and aroma over time.

Excellent IPA, one of the better craft IPAs I have had. Clear amber/tan color, smells moderately hoppy and piney, good semi-sweet malty finish. For a 6.6% ABV I can easily see this as a session beer.

Amber color, slight haziness. Few little bubbles. Head looks very nice, chunky looking.

Fresh hop aroma... Citrus, piney, touch of grassy. Sweet bready malts.

Fresh hop flavor up front... Citrus burst. I get some piney with touch of grassy. Sweet bready malts that balance the beer, a little honey sweetness. I get orange peel and spiciness at the end. Body is very crisp.

Very crisp finish, a little dry. Nice citrus aftertast that lingers very well.

Wow! I can't believe this is from Santa Fe Brewing? This is an awesome IPA!!

This is my go-to beer in Taos, NM. I'm sure it's good in the can, but it's such a beautiful pour in a glass, I always use one. The only thing better than drinking this beer is using the can for target practice.

Pours an off-white creamy head, about two finger widths, and leaves nice off white lacing.

Smell - a sweet caramel nose joined with a great mild/slightly citrus hop aroma.

Taste - Bitterness is right on. For the hoppy earthy tones, citrus aftertaste the mild caramel sweetness, it's a very well balanced taste. Carbonation doesn't appear to be there, but the mouthfeel of carbonation is very nice and bubbly for an IPA, and leaves a very fresh feeling in your mouth.

Overall- I would buy this beer again. My only wish is that it was a little cheaper. It has great, fresh hop flavor without the harsh bitterness. To me, this is an IPA that you would use on non-IPA lovers, and turn them into one.. Extremely well balanced, slightly sweet, good malty backbone, and wonderful hop flavor/aroma, finishing you with a citrus freshness in your mouth, begging for another sip.

Great head on this hoppy IPA with a strong bite, and a fresh, woody aftertaste. All-in-all, this is high quality beer. If you prefer quality, as opposed to quantity, then you should definitely try a Happy Camper. At 6.6%, it also goes great with dinner!

Can from local bottle shop. Rating by style of an American ipa... not a double or imperial.
Pours a nice light amber with about a finger of head... nice lacing ring...
Nose has some bubble gum, citrus, grass, hay and pine... in that order...it actually has all the features of american hops. Can't say i have actually had an aipa that has all of them on the nose so distinctly. That being said, it is not the best smelling aipa I have had, just has all those distinct odors. It is very nice though.
Taste has a nice malt body and a lot of pine. The pine is the most prevalent, and has a hint of citrus underneath it. Slick oily mouthfeel.
Rating this as a regular ipa, it is really great. not huge like a double or imperial, but this is one of the best aipas I have had. Amazing they can cram this much into 6.6%

Another CAN to further The CANQuest (TM), thanks to indiapaleale.

Music: Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains' "New Mexico Song".

From the CAN: "Wiping your rear with a pine cone is about as rough as camping should get. That's why we invented this portable IPA in a [CAN]. A hoppy, refreshing beverage that goes great with campfires, bears, granola, and mosquito repellent. Happy camping!"

I am not a big camper, so I'm just going to do my Crack & Glug action in my kitchen, where I usually review beers. I got a foamy finger of tawny head with good retention. Nose was filled with piney hops that filled the air with their tang. That does make me happy! Color was a deep orangish-amber with NE-quality clarity. BUPGOO! Mouthfeel was medium with a great piney hoppiness initially, coupled with a caramel sweetness underneath. Finish was equally hoppy, followed by caramel sweetness, then a breathtaking return of the hops. Phew! This is definitely a CANdidate for the cooler.

Grabbed a 6 pack of cans at Mr. G's in Plano. Poured into my Stone "Hoppy Fathers Day" pint glass.

A- Pours an attractively clear orange yellow with a half finger of off-white head that dissipates into a very thin head that sits nicely on top of the beer.

S- A super bold hoppy aroma on the nose. Pine, citrus, grassy, earthy, more pine, sweet malts, candy, caramel. It just smells fresh. Awesome.

T- Nice and sweet malts up front, soon followed by an onslaught of piney, resiny hops, very well balanced. Makes me want to be outside. Even my burps taste good. Only downside is a lingering bitterness, not ideal.

M- Smooth, oily, almost slick mouthfeel. Not over carbonated, easy drinking.

O- This is a great IPA. Love that it comes in cans, more breweries should use them. No date on the can but it was super fresh. Bravo Santa Fe, Bravo. IDK why people are giving this a B, solid A in my book. Im glad ive got 5 more.

A light caramel color with white foam. A mild citrus piney smell and intense spicy hop flavor. I dont know how to describe feel, but maybe substantial and it balanced the strong hop flavor well. First rating, need to study.

Had this today on draft at the brewery today.

This beer has a lot going well for it. It had that typical hoppy smell that ipa's have, but the taste was far superior to most ipa's I've had lately. Nice golden color and 6.6 abv made this a very well rounded ipa. Going to send some of this home to fla and do some side to side comparisons with other popular ipa's, I think this will fare well against most of the big boys.

Pours a dark amber/honey honey with a very thick foamy head (4 fingers). Head retention and lacing is excellent. Not much of a rival that I have seen there. Hoppy, citric aroma with resin. There is also a strong malty component to it. Bready. Strong malt backbone up front with a big piney hop. More of a spicy, resin taste at the end. Bitter aftertaste, but it does seem bready. Good beer, the maltiness is a little much when compared to the hops.

As a hop head this has become one of my favorites. We rate it up there near one of my other fav's, stone ipa. The handiness of can sure make trips to the recycling yard better.

12 oz can pours a mostly clear, light copper color with an impressive cap of tan head that leaves nice sheets of lace. Good looker here.

Nose leans towards tropical and citric hops but there is a definite caramel, almost toffee malt presence that is most balancing indeed. Interesting, and has a nutty characteristic most of SFBC brews have exhibited before.

Taste shows a nutty hoppiness that is both unique and fun. Refreshing, clean hop body is totally slurpable and goes down easy. I am thoroughly impressed with this beer. I must admit that most SFBC offerings I have had have been average at best, but they have stepped up their game recently and I am glad for it. Try this if you CAN...you wont be disappointed.

Yay, canned IPAs, great. Thanks to dcloeren for this one.

The gurgling pour from the can into the snifter yields a fluffy creamy looking 1.5 finger head that fades at a med pace with nice thick lacing, over mostly clear honey orange colored beer.

NOse brings plenty of fresh hops, a nice hoppy aroma, fresh citrus and a bit of resin, hint of tropical fruit like a light musty passion fruit and guava almost. A light fluffy malt underneath, a hint of tangerine and light clementine like citrus.

Taste starts with a light fluffy malt with hint of reddish malt like flavor, but quickly brings hops. A light airy aromatic floral hop start, a little grassy, light resins and citrus. A bit of tropical fruit as well, more clementine and hint passion fruit with the musty resin. A decent bitterness that doesn't bite too much but rounds off evenly at first. As it finishes it dries a bit and gets a nice bitter bite, a decent bitter orange rind like flavor with more light resin and hint of pine even.

Mouth is med bodied, fluffy with lots of carbonation.

Overall pretty good actually. This is what base IPAs should be, a bit lighter, very drinkable, nice bitterness that increases with a dry finish, great effervescent hops, light resin and citrus, bit tropical fruit, nothing wrong at all, just a very drinkable IPA, from a can no less!

Santa fe IPA

Tipping on the amber orange side of the IPA spectrum, light white head, touch of lacing, and marginal if any bubbles in the body. Good light comes through but not as clear as it can be.

Mild aroma overall, hops and sweet malt, not overly grape fruit notes, not overly floral, just a touch of bitter with sweet caramel notes.

Nearly a perfectly balanced IPA. Hops attack the front of the tongue followed by sweet nearly sugary sweetness. Wonderfully bold flavors here, reminds me in many ways of two hearted ale. Not as hoppy but the blend of flavors comes off very similar.

Thicker than the abv would suggest, well carbonated and a good beer to drink. This isn’t a summer beer by any means, but still pretty good.

Really solid extra IPA and a wonderful extra!

12oz can.
A) Pours with a thin head that quickly disapates leaving some big bubbles on top. Slight haze to the body. Copper in color.
S) Bold hop aromatics - pink grapefruit, peach and pleasant floral notes.
T) Sweet caramel hop bit up front. Then the malts take over briefly allowing the hops to come back for another subtle and lingering kick in the finish. Other parts of the taste profile made up with not-quite-ripe pink grapefruit, floral petals, and pine.
M) Smooth. Medium body. Some tannin in the finish.
O) A delicious IPA. I would definitely drink another.

attractive looking can from State Line Liquors in El Paso.

poured into an opaque plastic cup, so can;t comment much on appearance. Nice, creamy head with pretty good lacing.

aroma is piney and floral, with some citrus notes. Some yeasty biscuit in the background.

Full hop flavor on the front, with only a hint of sweetness. Grapefruit dominates, with some pine and dried fruit. Apricot notes, from the malt maybe? Finishes dry and minty.

Medium-bodied and creamy, with a sharp bitterness on the sides of the tongue. Bitterness lingers and borders on astringent, but stays in a good place.

Puckering and refreshing. A nice treat and a no-brainer for camping.

12 ounce can. Pours slightly cloudy orange amber color with a nice dense 2.5 finger off white head with great retention that reduces to a thick lacing cap that lasts. Some very nice lacing coats the glass as you drink as well. Aromas of orange, grapefruit, pine, caramel, and spice. Nice aromas with good strength, standard IPA stuff here. Taste of orange, grapefruit, pine and caramel. Big sweetness on the front with a decently strong bitterness on the finish that lasts with pine, caramel, and citrus flavor. Medium carbonation and body, very creamy and smooth as well, very drinkable. No alcohol in the taste or finish. Overall an excellent well rounded IPA. I would pick this up if it was readily available, perhaps for some camping?

A - Pours out medium copper in color. The head is off-white with moderate density. Retention is minimal.

S - The nose is mostly sweet with lots of tropical fruits being apparent. You get sweet pineapple and orange, slightly sour apricots coupled with a pleasant hop bitterness all the way through.

T - Bitter, semi sweet tropical fruits. Also....a bit of a toasted coffee quality maybe even a little bread like.

M - Smooth, soft, a little oily/slick. Carbonation in great.

O - Pretty good stuff right here. Only 8.49 a six pack at my local H.E.B. Recommended.
