i had no idea these guys have been around so long. congrats to them, they have almost always impressed me, even with everyday styles, so good on them! this is a cool release, a canned saison in an affordable sixer, we need more of these for sure. this one is quite light drinking, extremely well carbonated, and more of the french saison yeast, white wine notes as it finishes, i have brewed with similar strains before and recognize it right away. the grain bill seems straightforward too, mostly wheat but something else just a bit more robust as well. maybe some torrified wheat or rolled oats for body and just a hit of sweetness. it gives the saison yeast something to cling to, a launching pad of sorts, and the result is a full flavored but light drinking beer much different from the usual sixer of pale ale or something, but familiar enough to perhaps even turn newcomers to the style on to it. not as farmed out or funkadellic as others, but its not supposed to be. quality stuff here.

Poured from the can a clear gold color with one finger of wet off-white head. A small amount of lacing left behind.

Aroma was earthy with a touch of spice and herbal notes.

The earthiness followed in the taste along with the light spice and herbal presence. Finished with a light bitterness.

Medium bodied and dry with a moderate carbonation.

An easy drinking Saison from Santa Fe Brewing.

Santa Fe Saison 88 has a thick, soapy, white head, a clear, golden appearance, bubble streams, and a good amount of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is pungent, bready, sweet, and spicy, and the flavor is the same. The spice is hard to determine, however. Bitterness is low. The mouthfeel is medium, slick, and a bit soft, and Santa Fe Saison 88 finishes semi-dry, refreshing, and highly drinkable. Overall, I think it's one to try, if you ever see it.

12oz can served in a Prairie teku glass

A – Light golden color, slightly hazy, 2 fingers of firm white foam, awesome lacing and very good retention.

S – Pepper yeast, grassy hops, delicate floral hops, sweet pilsner malts, lemon, acidic grapes, cantaloupe melon, smells kinda like a pinot grigio, light funky yeast kicks in as it warms,

T – Peppery yeast lined with a lemon citrus kick, white pinot grapes, grassy hops, firm pilsner malt base, finishes crisp and clean.

M – Medium carbonation for the style, full medium body, dry and crisp finish.

Hits all the right notes. Very pretty beer. It could have been a bit drier but I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Poured a cloudy golden yellow with three fingers of fluffy white head that slowly receded to a finger of fluffy white head that stuck around and left lacing down the glass. Quite nice looking and fairly true to style. Scents of tropical fruit and pineapple, slight grassy aromas, cloves, sweet spices and slight banana in the background and abundant yeasty bread with some peach and, slight pear and apricot aromas. Very nice, rather complex and fruity, with nice bready and yeasty aromas present as well. Taste begins with light lemon, citrus zest, and faint herbal hops, with a moderate bitterness level, some yeasty spiciness, notably clove present as well. Middle of the sip is similar to the beginning. Finishes dry, with yeasty spice, clove, musky herbal hops and grainy malt flavors. Aftertaste is grainy, musky and spicy, with strong notes of clove. Very well done, quite true to style and very refreshing. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and a chalky, drying feel. Good, and again quite true to style. Overall this is a well done saison that is similar to other examples of the style and is quite refreshing and drinkable. Not the best of its class but certainly not bad and extremely drinkable.
