On tap at When Pigs Fly in Kittery. Very, very nice beer.

Near black in color with a small tan head and a tiny bit of lace.

Roasted malt aroma. Molasses and chocolate.

Lots of taste. Molasses, dark chocolate. A little espresso. A smidge of bite from the alcohol.

This beer had real depth and a nice lingering bitterness.

A wonderful beer.

Purchased @ Marshall Wharf brewery, Belfast Maine

Pours midnight black with a creamy two inch lite brown head. Thick lacing consisting of lines and polka dots decorate the glass adding to the allure. Head retention is average and leaves behind a creamy film.

Aroma is rich in molasses followed by black licorice, dark fruits, caramel and chocolate. A light sweetness is followed by roasted malts.

The flavor starts out with an unmistakeable roastiness and sets the tone for what comes next. Molasses, unsweetened coffee, bitter chocolate and booze in the form of rum.

Mouthfeel has a bitter feel from start to finish. The body is medium to thick with a sticky feel. Finishes dry leaving my tongue begging for wetness.

Overall a pretty good offering in the Baltic Porter category. Perfect as a sipper on a cold winters night.

Had on tap at Marshall Wharf takeover of Novare Res.

Dark creamy head pitch black beer

Nose dark malts, little creamy, roast, light coffee, baltic porter

Taste darkmalts, semi bitter, molasses, roast and coffee, minerality, little piny, creamy, fluffy,

Mouth is heavier, thick and rich, fluffy, some booze, decent carb

Drink is decent, little booze and minerality,

First had: on tap at Three Tides, Belfast, ME

A hefty 9.3%ABV (according to the menu). Brewed with molasses, this porter is dark and smooth, and surprisingly, the high alcohol doesn't effect the taste much.

Poured an opaque black with a nice tan head that retained well. Dark roasty malts in the aroma, and dark sugars. Roasty malts in the taste, molasses and dark chocolate, with some bitterness in the background and a bit of an alcohol bite. Smooth and full-bodied, very drinkable.

Poured on-tap at Three Tides and served in a pint glass, the beer is a very dark brown, which is vibrant, with hazelnut highlights. The beer carries a thin ring of head. There are aromas of heavy molasses, both rich and supersweet. There are slight boozey characteristics, too. The flavor is rich and slick, with roasted coffee bitterness and molasses sweetness balancing each other out. Slightly cloying feel to it, the beer has a tangy aftertaste that is darkly sweet. The finish is slick and oily, with a late linger to it.

UPDATE: a year later, they are listing it as 9.1%, and, while I didn't take notes for an actual review, I couldn't agree with what I wrote below about the nose. And for my nightcap, after having sampled quite a few, I chose this over the Chaos Chaos, which I originally rated more highly and still have fondness for. It's a good brew, like everything I've had at MW.

From notes. On tap at the brewpub. Dark black, one finger tan head with decent retention, some short lived lacing. Clear with red highlights. SMELL is unfortunately hard to find at first. Faintly roasty, sweet malty, chocolaty. TASTES roasty, chocolaty, sweet and with strongish molasses, some heat and bitterness. Pretty smooth. Increasingly complex as it warms. FEEL the nicely restrained fiz, viscous texture with full body, and the slightly dry finish. OVERALL, a pint or two will be plenty for most. And if you are getting it at the brewery, where most will for the foreseeable future, there are soooo many other worthy options.

I received this beer from a trade. Porters aren't my style but this one was awesome. The previous reviewer nailed it. Molasses, coffee, sugar, yummy! Rum notes setting in. High alcohol taste. Yes! Perfect winter porter. Only prob is: Site won't let me upload pic of the product.
