First had: on nitro tap at Three Tides, Belfast, ME

"Brewed from the same malt as the Chaos Chaos.
My notes say in huge letters: "ROASTY!"

Poured dark brown-black with a healthy, creamy tan head. Big roasty aroma and not much else in the nose. Similar taste with dark roasty malts, and more dark roasty malts, with essence of cocoa. No hops noticeable, but some coffee-like bitterness comes through. Smooth and dry, not quite full-bodied, and pleasantly drinkable.

Poured on nitro-tap at Three Tides, and served in a pint glass, the beer presents a very dark brown color, with a thin layer of biege, small bubbled head. The smell is light roasted coffee and milk chocolate, with a slight tangy sweet balance to it. Flavors are dark coffee and chocolate, with a slight dark fruit highlight. The roasted coffee and chocolate characteristics continue consistently through the aftertaste, with a slick and dry finish. Strong brew, and makes a great session stout.

This stout consists of the 2nd running of the much bigger and bolder "Chaos Chaos" Imperial Stout, according to the owner. This sample was served from nitro tap at the brewpub.

Pours medium brown, clear, with relatively short lived but nonetheless impressive nitro waterfall effect. Had some red highlights around the edges, a thick creamy tan nitro head that never completely relented, and left thick lacing even when the glass was fully empty.

Nicely mild roast and malty sweetness, well balanced.

Tastes like the nose but with some balancing hop bitterness to go with the mallty sweetness and roast. The bitterness seemed to be a bit more noticeable toward the end of the sample.

Smooth and creamy with medium body, a bit dry and lightly bitter in the finish.

Easy drinking, tasty, and pretty much sessionable stout. Recommended.

A: Pours a very dark mahogany color with a fingers worth of head that fades down to a thin cap relatively quickly

S: Roasted malts, unsweetened baker's chocolate, and a hint of coffee are the standouts, with some caramel sweetness in there as well

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the roasted malts and caramel sweetness and goes into the baker's chocolate and coffee. Some pleasant astringency is there, which makes the coffee notes almost seem like espresso. Finishes lightly bitter with notes of coffee grinds

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: This beer could definitely use some nitrogen to make it smoother and creamier (aka, I need to try it on tap some time). Aside from that though, this is a solid stout with a good amount of flavor. A nice switch-up from your standard higher abv RIS or imperial stout
