massive thanks once again headed to gary (blessedbebeer) for hooking up the 2012 BA marshall wharf bottles. enjoyed from a beer hunter snifter
bottle no 45
bottle date 3.1.12
a - brew pours a really lush and gorgeous silky black with a thin off-white head that was gone as quick as it appeared leaving a few bubbles on the surface and some streaky lacing. really wonderful shine.
s - really nice bourbon presence over some chocolate roasted malt with an almost tobacco leather in the base. reminds me of full sail's black gold on the nose.
t - a bit of a let down after the nose. flavors are all fairly muted. some booze on the finish. roasted chocolate malt with hardly any character at all. after sipping for a bit and warming up, i get a bit more of a decadent chocolate from the beer but nothing as lush as an eclipse or bcbs.
m - a bit thin for the style. although a bit hot, doesn't come across as 11+%.
o - overall a nice BA IRS, but nothing mind blowing. not sure what the bottle counts were on these, but probably fairly low and for the effort one would need to put forth to track one down, doubt this will be worth that effort.

Poured in a snifter, the beer is jet black, with some brown highlights in the light. Creamy, thick appearance with no head. Great cling along the glass. The nose is slight nut and heavy coffee. Very smooth and creamy body, with rich and bitter coffee flavors, dark fruit highlights (plum and date), and booze characteristics. The aftertaste is rich, with chocolate highlights and coffee roast. Slick finish, but slightly drying and bitter, as well. Amazing beer.
