Iconic Double IPA is California’s gift to beer lovers. Ours is brewed with four distinctly American hops: Centennial, Citra, Columbus and Simcoe, all beautifully balanced by five malts. Then add generous additions of local orange blossom honey. An intense sensory experience — the fresh aroma of citrus, pine and grapefruit meets the bold taste of hops and sweet honey in a perfect merger that had always been waiting to be discovered.

Had Iconic DIPA at the Hangar 24 Taproom, Lake Havasu City, Arizona, on draft into 1/2-pint water glass.

Pours slightly-cloudy gold, with near-white 1/2-finger head, with good retention, leaving nice Belgian lace down the glass. Aroma citrusy and resinous off pour, joined by jet fuel--my perception of the high ABV and honey together--as warms. Begins with a little resin, and then some fruit and floral flavors, and a little alcohol and honey (jet fuel) flavor, for a biting but not bitter resin and moderately alcoholic finish.

Tried Iconic DIPA because Betty keg kicked. Did not notice that Iconic is made with honey, which I usually find I don't really like in a beer. This was no exception.

Now that I have begun really diving into the Bottle backlog here at Chez Woody, I am unstoppable! Yes, it means suspending The CANQuest (tm) for the moment, but the thought of being rid of these pesky bottles for once & for all is so heartening that I almost do not have words. These next bunch were all purchases through Tavour & as I have said repeatedly, I have no real beef with them. It was their inflexible local shipper + the continual adding to the backlog that led me to part ways.

From the Bottle: "Ale Brewed with Honey"; "Assertive and Drinkable"; "Iconic is Hangar 24’s gift to hop-heads. This Double IPA is brewed with four unmistakably American hops: Centennial, Citra, Columbus and Simcoe, all beautifully balanced by five malts with generous additions of local orange blossom honey. An intense sensory experience from the fresh aroma of citrus, pine and grapefruit with the bold taste of hops and sweet honey."

I Pop!ped the cap & started a slow, gentle C-Line pour into the awaiting glass. I was pleasantly surprised as it quickly foamed up to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with very good retention, slowly falling away & leaving loads of lovely lacing in its wake. Color was a faintly-hazy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose held a pronounced honey presence, along with a distinct breadiness from the malt(s). The hops may have faded on the nose during my delay in drinking this, but it still smelled fabulous. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, on the light side for the style. The taste was better than the nose had led me to expect. Instead of the hops just falling away, they had formed a solid PNW-like piney earthiness that dovetailed beautifully with the honey & the bready malt(s). I think that this is what they meant by "assertive and drinkable." It was not going to kill my palate, but at the same time, the hops were not being full tamed as could have easily happened with the addition of honey. This made for a very pleasant interlude in an otherwise uneventful day. Finish was semi-dry to dry. I had a honey beer at BJ's ~ 3 weeks ago & I called it "dry" while my uncle argued for "semi-dry". This one had those same qualities. YMMV.

Looks great in a 20 oz pour, smell is terrific, orange, lemony, hoppy.
Taste is strangely neutral. Not bad but not terrific.

Solid DIPA...IMHO, just as good as the Pliny I had before. Hoppy, piney, citrus...all the right notes!

My favorite double ipa, and home town brewer. Taste and smell you can get a hint of the higher abv. But the hops arrangement really shines through.

Crystal-clear, deep gold body; thick, frothy white head. Low-key, bright crystal malt sweetness on the nose. Bread crust malt base with a bold hop bitterness overall. Heavy body; sharp residual sugars; alcohol warmth simmering underneath.

A crisp and clean DIPA, nice malt base supporting a sharp, biting hop bitterness with a bold alcohol counterbalance overriding it all.
