Bottle acquired for cheap at the Trader Joe's in Culver City, California. Reviewed live. 4.60% ABV confirmed. 12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a conical Samuel Smith's pint glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Expectations are average.

Served straight from the fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a three finger white colour thin head of no real cream. Retention is above average (~2-3 minutes). Body colour is a cloudy witbier-esque pale yellow; nontransparent yet translucent. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Meh. Standard fare. No overt flaws.

Sm: Light aroma of blood oranges, pale malts, wheat, and maybe clove. A simple yet balanced and appealing aroma. Fresh and inviting. The clove may be from yeast, but I don't get any yeast from the aroma in the biscuity bready vitaminy sense. An average strength aroma.

T: Light refreshing wheat body, with light floral hops and clove atop. Where's the blood oranges I wanted? Nowhere to be found. Pale malts. Clean refreshing barley. Well balanced, fleeting, and light - but simple. The simplicity holds it back, but I think the balance is commendable. Lacks complexity or subtlety, but it's damned refreshing and pleasant. I wanted more blood orange; a friend's brother works for Hangar 24 and informed me recently that Hangar 24 stopped using their trademark local oranges in order to increase output - and that the flavour suffered as a result. Regrettable, but I like the flavour profile the way it is now - not having had it before.

Mf: Smooth, wet, light, and well carbonated. Suits the flavour quite well. Maybe it's a bit too thin and weak, but I think it works for it.

Dr: Sessionable as hell. Extremely drinkable; I could down it all night (and I have, before). I think this one is overlooked because of its availability, but it's a rather good beer for what it is. I'll be recommending this as a budget buy to friends. It doesn't blend in with the crowd; there's more to it. Interesting stuff that renews my faith in Hangar 24. I'll try to seek out their other offerings in the future. I already want more of this; it's just so drinkable. This deserves more attention than it's getting. Would make a great beer for a kegger.

I have actually had the pleasure of going to hangar 24 brewery in Redlands California being that i only live about 30 miles away or so. I cant really believe that this was in my backyard the whole time!. The brewery seems like its kind of in the middle of nowhere but when you arrive the parking lot seems full and there are lots of people around drinking lots of fresh beer. The layout is very open and flows pretty freely. You simple walk in and step up to the counter and order what you like.

After promptly ordering a cold pint of orange wheat we then proceeded to take a tour of the brewery which was very educational being that this was my first tour of a working brewery. Now lets rate the beer. Poured a very hazy orangeish golden color. About a finger and a half of white head. The smell was very much of fresh oranges. Some mild hop and malt aromas followed.

The taste was like the smell very much oranges, some small hop and sweet maltiness. But mostly citrus flavors. Very nice beer something i would definitely session on a sunday afternoon watching football or something. This is a beer you should really try along with the rest of what hangar makes and if your close check out their brewery its very cool.

Aroma is very nice on Orange Wheat. Orange rind combined with this mellow wheat character. Very sweet on the nose, and enticing me to take a sip.

Hazy dark straw yellow in color with a crisp bright white head. No lacing to speak of which is somewhat disappointing. I love when my beer laces. Why can't breweries just throw a touch of victory malt in there to help with lacing and head retention?

Big orange on the palate from start to finish. Smooth flavors with a nice moderate carbonation level and light texture. This is refreshing, delicious, and a nice change of pace from the same-old same-old. Wish I could get this locally.

12 oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip.
4.6% ABV, no bottle date.

Thanks for the brew Tom!

A - Poured, swirled, and poured again, this beer fills the tulip with a completely hazed pale wheat yellow color which is capped by a fluffy cloud-white head. Some gobs of lace are left behind as the well-retained head glides down.

S - Sweet orange peel zest escapes with some little lemon rind hints for an inviting citrus bouquet which softly soars over the delicate wheat aroma and pale malt base. The aroma briefly touches on dry yeast, but over all, its simple, straight forward, and pretty awesome.

T - Bright and refreshing, the light flavor should not be mistaken for being flavor-LESS. Rather, the subtle citrus cleans the tongue without being overwhelming or fruit beer-like. Instead of huge citrus, pale malt and soft wheat almost explode with a pulled punch. Restrained and very well balanced, the flavor is quite a pleasure to roll around on the tongue.

M - Soft, open, and airy, the smooth mouthfeel is accentuated by sparkling carbonation which dances on the tongue gently adding a crisp, refreshing tingle to the finish. In addition to Orange Wheat's wheat profile which really adds a smooth, soft dimension to this beer, the oranges are mildly tart on the palate, drying it out for balance which knocks it out of the park.

O - Every once and a while beer drinkers get in a slump. While still appreciative of their respective greatness, we become somewhat bored or uninspired by even some of the best beers. Having said that, Hangar 24's Orange Wheat has rejuvenated me with it's fresh take on the pale wheat style by adding fresh oranges which play out incredibly well in the flavor, adding terrific balance and a bright citrus characteristic. I really wish a) this beer was available in Wisconsin, and b) that I would have found about it towards the beginning of the summer. Absolutely awesome.

Cloudy yellow colored beer with a small cotton ball white head.

Smell is lightly sour with an orange blossoms orange scent. Not a super aromatic beer. Soda cracker malt aroma.

Starts out starts out mildly sweet with a soda cracker malt flavor. Mild orange flavor, an American Wheat Ale with a nice orange accent to it. Not overpowering you will not mistake this one for an Orange soda.

Mouthfeel is light and airy, good for a summer beer.

Overall a good beer for a hot summer day. Mildly flavored it could be more spicy by brewing with a Witbier yeast but it is refreshing.
