Tried this brew at BLAH. Dark, chocolate midnight, roasty goodness. Tastes amazing, it has everything I want in a porter, good n'heavy, little hop bite.
It's a pretty big porter, between an imperial and an average porter.
This beer felt like it's around 5%, they did a good job hiding the booze. Not too carbonated, drinks really nice
This is my favorite porter so far, I hope this beer starts getting bottled.

Flew into CA to visit some friends and they took me to Hanger 24. Very cool little brewery with a tasting room right in front of the kettles. Literally set up in an old airplane hangar...hence the name. Great surprise to find since my last visit to CA.

A - Dark brown, had some lacing though it was in a clear plastic cup so it was not in the ideal serving vessel

S - Nice notes, hints of fruit. Not the best environment for me to smell though so I apologize for not having more input.

T - I really, really liked this porter! It was definitely sweet with hints of chocolate, but not as overpowering in that as some porters. There was definitely a bit of fruit taste...not sure what it was but it was tasty.

M - Nice and crisp

D - Goes down smooth and pretty easy for being a somewhat bigger beer. Overall I will definitely be seeking this out when I go out west.

Had this on-tap at Gourmet Pizza Shoppe in Redlands, CA, though it was served in a frosted glass.

Poured a deep black with about a 1/2 inch of head. Good lacing though.

Initially smelled of just roasty toasty malt, and some smoke. But after warming up, chocolate and coffee notes came through, as well as hints of fruit.

Tasted of milk chocolate and coffee, some dark fruit notes. As the beer warmed up, more bitter chocolate than sweet milk chocolate, though it remained well-balanced. I really enjoyed the flavor of this porter.

I thought this was medium-bodied, and had a dry mouthfeel, good carbonation as well. Flavors also lingered on the palate to my liking.

At the time, I didn't know the ABV on this beer, but felt I could keep drinking. Was very easy drinking for a porter, and the alcohol was hidden pretty well.

Pint at Gourmet Pizza Shoppe in Redlands for around five dollars on Saturday, reviewed from notes, newest offering from Hangar 24, it started out as an experimental beer but is slowly becoming a regular offering

A-Very dark brown but not black, 3/4 inch creamy light tan head, nice lacing at first, not much retention though
S-Roasted malts, coffee, burned sugar, dark chocolate, barley, and mild sweetness
T-Bitter chocolate and roasted malts at first caramel and burnt barley in the middle, more roasted malts in the finish, it is more dry at first but still stays nice once it warms, nice on the palate and good balance of sweetness and dryness
M-Roasty, slightly sweet, and dry mouthfeel, thin to medium body, good amount of carbonation, taste lingers well
D-Could drink lots of this, one of the easiest drinking porters I have had in a very long time, goes down easy and alcohol is hidden almost too well, not filling

Not my favorite from them glad to see them go to the dark side for once, I heard they might be tampering with the recipe a bit, all in all it is still a very good porter and I will drinking more of it in the future, recommended

Had this on tap at the Buffalo Inn in Upland, CA.

A- standard porter brownish-black with the reddish highlights around the edges. Not served with muchhead.

S- sweet and roasty. But not chocolatey sweet, it's more of a fruity sweet.

T- Roasty, some chocolate, but definitely some fruit character to it as well. I would have never guessed it was 8% though. Felt like a standard porter.

M- About medium, your standard porter mouthfeel.

D- Not bad. I actually like that it had some character in there other than just chocolate and roast. Made it a bit interesting if not completely traditional.

On-tap at the source itself in a 16 ounce plastic cup. On to the beer:

Black and black. Not a whole lot of lacing it leaves, though the head retention is fine. Sweet and smokey, says the nose. The taste is where things start to slow down. First, there is plenty of charcoal and smoke, which work well in this beer. Bitter chocolate comes into play. As the beer warms up, the chocolate notes become sweeter, and the charcoal and smoke notes become less astringent. Alcohol is hidden well, though it's not a beer that goes down really easy...take it slow.

To me, this beer seems more like a Baltic Porter with the higher ABV and extra charcoal notes. Debate aside, give it a try.
