A - Pours a hazy burnt orange with 2 fingers of beige head that sticks around a looong time. Minimal lacing.

S - Lots of citrusy hops on this one. Grapefruit, lemon zest, pineapple, a touch of grass in there as well. Malt is present, but definitely not anywhere near the hops. Really nice smelling beer.

T - First sip is of nothing but bubblegum. Further sips bring on more of the bubblegum, and also a bit citrus and a good amount of alcohol. Not what I was expecting at all.

M - Light bodied and good carbonation. Leaves your mouth nice and dry.

O - A decent DIPA. The bubblegum taste is kinda off-putting for me, but the beer behind that is a nice one.

This beer, recommended by our server, did not disappoint in the slightest. It poured a beautiful honeyed-orange color, with a frothy head and lacing along the glass. Aromas of pine, fresh cut grass and citrus rose to the nose. On the palate, the highend hops were present. It was appropriately bitter and balanced. Overall, based on this one experience, I'd rate this beer up there with the top DIPA's I've tried. Yes, in other words, I came to Cali looking for Pliny on tap and "ended up with this". Gun to head, blind folded, I don't think I'd have been able to tell the difference. I'll be looking for this again to see if the notes are consistent the second time around. Kudos to Hangar 24, whoever you are.

On Tap

Churchill's Pub & Grille
San Marcos, CA

Clear and dark gold with a wispy white head. Lined lacing down the glass.

Muted aromas of very nice things: citrus (grapefruit, orange, pineapple even) and a little bit of pine, but all the aromas seem somewhat faraway.

Moderate bitterness, some citrus flavors, and a touch of bread, but a relatively boring, simple, yet certainly drinkable, DIPA.

Medium bodied. Easy to drink.

A very average, though decent DIPA. Another solid enough, yet simple and boring offering from Hangar 24.

A: Medium to medium+ hazy, straw color. Pours with about a 1/2 finger head of fine white bubbles that dissipate quickly.

S: Smells like zesty grapefruit rinds up front, with some sweety malts in the rear. Very little indication of hops from the smell.

T: Not too far off the smell; a bit of citrus acid up front, and then (milder than smell) malts, finished by (more intense than smell) hops. The hop finish isn't very intense compared to other beers, it's just much more prevalent in the taste and not in the smell. Doesn't taste boozy at all, despite the 9.0% abv.

M: Pretty sticky; thick to thick+ mouthfeel, and a little slow. Carbonation is good (medium to medium+). Pretty much what you want out of a DIPA.

O: Nice beer. I wish I could brew DIPAs that were this light in color. Not a ton of hops, but it still balances well even at 9.0% abv.

Looks like sweet liquid gold in a glass. Head was of medium size, pure white and contrasted very well with the beer.

Definately smells hoppy as an IPA should.

Tastes like a regular not a double IPA... Hoppy, sweet, bitter. Being a 9% abv I exected a strong alcohol taste, but didn't get it; Muy bueno! I like the 9% because I dont have to drink as much liquid.

Mouthfeel was avg. Thin/ avg feel.

Overall one of my favorite IPAs.

Served on tap in a pint glass at the brewery. The initial smell is great, hops permeate the nostrils. The initial taste is smooth and fresh, and the hops again make their presence known, but the alcohol taste remains behind. The color is a nice gold hue, and leaves behind a nice white lace as you take a sip. The best thing about this beer is the fact is that the ABV is high, but the taste remains fresh and you would think it was much lower. Highly recommend.

had on-tap at local habit.

a- screams ipa. more translucent gold with just a touch of amber at it's deepest point in the glass. decent head.

s- slightly muted hops. doesn't set off your ibu sensor, but does hint at a medley of hops.

t- and that hops medley works well together. they've done a great job balancing out the malts and hops. very, very drinkable with or without food. not going to wreck your palate, not going to leave you wanting more bitterness.

o- will happily drink this anytime. a solid double ipa. doesn't try to make you suffer, and doesn't have a clever name. just delivers.

Pours a hazy light orange coloured body, with a generous retained cloud of a head. Great fruit aroma, orange and tropical. Tremendous flavour, and gets better as it goes, great with several courses of my dinner, complementing the fish, the veal, bread, soup. Grapefruit, orange, tangerine, and tropical. tremendous DIPA without the full frontal assault on the palate. Very smooth. I would have this again and soon. This bottle alone worth the baggage check-in loading up on bottles from my recent LA trip.

Pours a little over two fingers of head on a cloudy straw colored body. Looks great.
The aroma is mostly orange and some grapefruit.
The taste moderately bitter beginning to end. Some sweetness breaks through towards the end. Nice profile.
The texture is thicker with moderate carbonation.
Quite enjoyable.

Wow, I feel like maybe I am drinking a different beer than everyone else on here. I found this beer to be pretty fantastic. Good spicy aroma, great white foam head. Citrusy, hoppy taste. Severe bitterness in a good way that stays on the tongue just long enough. Refreshing, yet dry. Overall, I found this beer to be way better than expected after reading reviews.
