Pale amber with a medium sized white head. The color is close to golden but not quite. This beer does have a significant chill haze to it.

Smell is strong hops with a decidedly tropical fruit scent. Strong grapefruit ring with passion fruit and some mint. Lesser scents of mango and lemon.

Starts out with a taste of bitter grapefruit rind and a hint of onion. Gets sweeter as you drink it. It is a bit savory on the tongue like soy sauce, must have a high glutamate content. Alcohol is well hidden but you can feel it in the chest. Taste doesn't change that much bitter grapefruit with strong tea and astringent drying.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall a beer that doesn't deliver in taste what it promises from the smell.

S: Grass, corn, lemon

T: Citrusy, with lemon and grapefruit and some corn. Maltier than I expected. Hops are aggrasive but milder than other DIPA's, equivalent to about a Racer 5. Very well balanced DIPA.

M: Medium body. Just ever so slightly chewy. Decent amount of carbonation. All that combines to make this go down with a pleasant heaviness.

One of the best local DIPA's I've had. Definitely the best thing to have while at the brewery.

The most notable characteristic of the beer, from the nose and particularly throughout each quaff, is grapefruit and citrus zest. The hazy golden color with foamy whitish head is a pretty and inviting sight.

Hangar 24's website notes an addition of "local orange blossom honey" to the bill. There is a non-malt sweetness that peeks through in the finish, which occasionally creates a thick or syrupy sensation at the backside, but overall the beer seems pretty drinkable for it's strength. The alcohol itself was occasionally noticeable.

"Centennial, Citra, Columbus and Simcoe" hops definitely add bitterness but also tropical fruit notes in addition to the grapefruit and citrus. In fact, when I noticed tropical flavor at one point, I was reminded of when Starburst first released their "tropical" line, without the weird soapy flavor that the tropical Starburst came with. Many beer aficionados on BA may be too young to make such an association.

Fresh bottle shared by Darrell Thanks Darrell.

The beer is hazy and light, golden orange with a half inch of white head. The aroma offers floral hops, some dank malt, a touch of lemon zest. The flavor is a bit of a disappointment. Medicinal and astringent, with toothpaste in the finish. Minty hops. Eh...not so much. Next.

App: Eggshell colored rocky head. Nice lacing, great head retention. Slightly hazy apricot in color.

Nose: Lemon zest, citrus, green fresh hops, pine.

Taste: Grapefruit, citrus, sweet and a little syrupy, light carbonation.

Notes: A very nice example of what a California double ipa can be. Strong, balanced, big, and interesting.

Straight out of the bottle I could see the color was a little lighter than most IIPA's I drink. Pretty decent head when poured into a pilsner glass, but not followed up by much carbonation. Pretty light and easy to drink for 9%, but as far as taste I wasn't really impressed. Plenty of hops in there, but not picking up much citrus. What citrus you do taste is pretty muted. Pretty light mouthfeel. Leaves a slight film that you taste for a while. This beer really isn't anything special and I wouldn't purchase again since there are soooo many other IIPA's in the world.

A: Poured a nice orange, transparent with a nice white cap, decent amounf of bubbles and lacing present

S: Citrus all the way; mainly lemon zest and orange peel w/ a slight grapefruit note

T: Immediate grapefruit and orange peel up front which stays around until the finish. A little bit of lemon zest hangs in there. The finish is rather nice and clean, a little bit of oil and bitterness. The malt bill seems to be a bit of biscuit, not to heavy but provides enough support to keep it decently balanced as an IIPA can be.

M: Medium bodied, well carbonated, easy to drink and the taste lingered on the palate well

O: Easy to drink. Would definitely try again. My first Hangar 24 beer was good one

Pours super pale, especially for a DIPA. Almost like a Pils. Very clear. Dense, rocky head settles at about a finger and retains well. Not much lacing to speak of. Aroma is piney, floral, nectary. No question about the hoppiness of this beer, although it's more floral than most hop forward beers. Malt isn't hard to find either. Biscuity with some honey. Somewhat spicy with a swirl. Light biscuit malt flavor starts things off, but is soon taken over by the hop flavor. Piney, resinous, vinous, like a bitter weed. The bitterness is intense and lasts a good while at the back of the tongue. Balanced feel, dry finish.

The appearance was the big difference with this beer. I couldn't believe how clear and light it looked. The aroma is very different from the flavor, in that it's balanced in the aroma, but it's extremely bitter on the tongue. Although I'd call the taste a bit of a one note disappointment, I still like this beer and would get it again.

Thanks Steasy66 for this one. Reviewed blind.

Golden colored with an alabaster head; good retention, ok lacing. Smells of hops in a weird way... as if the hops were struggling or lacked the aroma component to begin with. I am digging the malt character way more than hops... biscuit, cracker type :-/

Very malt forward with sticky sweetness but strong ale like firm bitterness. Rather heavy on the palate without much of a character... not bad but fails to impress. Not a poorly made beer but doesn't fulfill the expectations from an IPA.

A: Golden brown pour with a nice head. Not too thin, not thick.

S: Very floral, Piney and smooth earthy smell

T: Very smooth, small bite and a little taste of all the different hops. More piney of a nose than taste. Much more floral than say the Avery Maharaja. In fact that is a good comparison beer. 24 wins out with taste for sure. Its a smoother feel on your tongue with less bite.

M: Small bite and smoothe. The pine opens up towards the back and the aftertaste is earthy and long lasting.

Overall a good beer that compares to others in its class.
