22oz bottle from Khourey's (Las Vegas, NV). 7.99. No bottling information apparent. Served in a Terrapin goblet.

Pours dark brown with a finger and a half of thick tan head. A thin cap remains and leaves just a little lace.

Smells of bakers cocoa, chocolate malt, faint vanilla and a little sugar.

Plenty of chocolate flavor. Cocoa powder, dark chocolate and chocolate malts are most prevalent with hints of vanilla, powdered sugar, chalk, coffee, earthy and mildly metallic. Not a whole lot of depth but it delivers the chocolate for sure.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Dry, bittersweet, earthy cocoa and vanilla finish.

A one trick pony but overall a decent brew. Less roasty and a tad thinner than I'd prefer in a porter. I'm not disappointed that I grabbed the bottle but I won't be hunting for another.

Batch 24 on draft at KnB Wine Cellar in San Diego, CA. March, 2013.

Pitch black and opaque with a 1.5 finger beige head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring.  Spotty lacing left behind.

Slightly chalky aroma with cocoa powder, roasted malt and sweet dessert-like notes.  Lots of chocolate in the nose along with cocoa nib, coffee bean and caramel sweetness.

On the fuller end of medium body with a nice balance of roasted malt, coffee bean, bittersweet dark chocolate and toffee.   Strong chocolate presence, dark and sweet, with robust coffee bean flavor but it never becomes overly roasted or dry.  Very nicely balanced and easy to drink with no noticeable alcohol/heat.

Haven't written a review in a while, but this beer made me almost rush to my computer.

Hangar 24 has been disappointing me lately with their "specialty" beers. There's a consistent fake taste to whatever flavor they are adding. This is no exception. The chocolate flavor has a powdery, weird commercial milk chocolate flavor, taste and mouthfeel. Doesn't have that rich cocoa nib type flavor I'm looking for, but more of a cheap chocolate taste. Had to dump out the bottom third became too annoying for me.

Poured from 22oz bottle.

Overall, this is a perfectly average porter, but did not have much that is going to get me to come back and have this beer again.

The beer pours medium to dark brown, with a tanish head, visually appealing and a good start.

The smell is overall earthy, with hints of chocolate, with malt and a bit of copper, so pretty much an earthy porter.

The taste is what you would expect from a smokey porter, with hits of chocolate, and something creamy in the mix. It is simple but I enjoyed the experience. It also had a nice feel to it, but that was not enough to make me want to come back for more.

Medium brown color with tawny hues. 1-finger tan head with very short retention.

Hot chocolate, vanilla, roasted barley, Hershey's chocolate syrup and a light coffee note. Some sense of sweetness in the aromas, but not excessive.

On the palate, cappacino, vanilla, mocha and a mild asprin bitterness on the back of the palate.

Medium bodied and fairly dry in style for the flavors. Pretty good attenuation in the beer. Finish is fairly short and and carries bitterness and astringency that remind of cold coffee.

Like the idea, but the beer lacks synergy.

I entered into my local craft beer haven with the intents of buying a porter and I walked out with this hidden gem. I was enticed essentially by the fact that it included vanilla -- I know people tell me don't grab onto certain ingredients but I figured whatever, I'll give it a shot.

Appearance: pours a dark brown, with medium head that fades into beautiful lacing around the glass.

Smell: Dark Chocolate, smells like roasted cocoa/coffee and delicious vanilla

Initial Taste: Sweet, vanilla, though it smells like dark chocolate its not as bitter as you would expect; smooth and malty. Full bodied.

Overall: I thoroughly enjoyed this porter, most definitely on the sweeter side which is a pleasant surprise. Enjoyed the vanilla which is just as apparent as the chocolate. All in all, this chocolate porter is an easy drink -- there is no real complexity to this -- which is fine because sometimes you just want a brew that tastes exactly what it states on the label.
