I entered into my local craft beer haven with the intents of buying a porter and I walked out with this hidden gem. I was enticed essentially by the fact that it included vanilla -- I know people tell me don't grab onto certain ingredients but I figured whatever, I'll give it a shot.

Appearance: pours a dark brown, with medium head that fades into beautiful lacing around the glass.

Smell: Dark Chocolate, smells like roasted cocoa/coffee and delicious vanilla

Initial Taste: Sweet, vanilla, though it smells like dark chocolate its not as bitter as you would expect; smooth and malty. Full bodied.

Overall: I thoroughly enjoyed this porter, most definitely on the sweeter side which is a pleasant surprise. Enjoyed the vanilla which is just as apparent as the chocolate. All in all, this chocolate porter is an easy drink -- there is no real complexity to this -- which is fine because sometimes you just want a brew that tastes exactly what it states on the label.

22oz bottle into snifter.

A: Pours a brown coffee color with a thick, foamy, light tan head that quickly faded into a thick film leaving wispy lace down the glass.
S: Rootbeer, cola, and vanilla nose. Sweet and soda-like with a touch of vanilla.
T: Vanilla, roast, caramel malt, brown sugar and soda flavors. I'm getting a lot of flavors of weak black coffee and bitter used coffee grounds as well. Chocolate isn't as strong as expected but adds a nice light flavor in the finish. Very bitter aftertaste.
M: Very foamy frothy carbonation, medium- full body, bitter and foamy but drinkable mouthfeel.
O: Not really a fan. Not especially bad just the flavors didn't really work for me. Needs work in my opinion. Too much carbonation as well.

Appearance - Pours a deep, dark near black auburn brown with a light, brownish off-white 2 finger head. Great retention, leaving a strong layer of microbubbles floating on the surface. Moderate lacing on the glass.

Smell - Not strongly aromatic; touches on chocolatey roasted malt and a buttery character.

Taste - Not what was expected. More off-flavored butter flavor than chocolate. Chocolate is present, but moderate at best. Acidic bite. Moderate roast near the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium to full in body with low to moderate carbonation. Acidic. Fair smoothness.

Overall - When drinking this, the first thing that comes to mind is neither chocolate, nor porter; not good when the name of your brew is 'Chocolate Porter'. I'm one and done with this beer. There are dozens upon dozens of chocolate forward brews I'd much rather have.
