Poured into a plastic cup at Hangar 24.

Hazy golden hue. Ring of white foam. Not much lacing, but the could be the "glass"wares fault.

Smells of honey, some green apple, hint of funk, hint of fruity tartness, hints of bourbon.

Tastes follows smell, honey, caramel, tart green apple, acidic sourness, followed by round oaky vanilla, and bourbon notes.

Mouthfeel is pretty soft and round. Medium bodied, medium/low carbonation.

Decent barrel aged Belgian pale.

Bottle shared at bu11zeye's 10,000th rating tasting.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma has a lot of orange and oak notes, with some vanilla and a little bit of tartness thrown in. The flavor is also quite complex. I get a lot of orange, apple and lemon notes, as well as some oak and vanilla. There is also a little bit of tartness and a hint of brett and funk. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle 636/1355
Purchased at Father's Harvest in Huntington Beach (RIP)
Poured to a Lost Abbey stemmed tulip

Pours a translucent copper with a pure white head that holds its shape for a very long time. I poured and then left the room for 10 minutes to take a phone call. When I came back, the head hadn't budged an inch. Tons of carbonation bubbles racing around in this one.

Smell is upfront with a boozy apple cider. Some nice bursts of vanilla and oak come through as well as some very subtle Brettanomyces. Very inviting.

Taste is very wine like IMO. Sour apples, slight white grapes, vanilla, oak, slight butter. It grows on me more and more with every sip.

Mouthfeel is very nice with a medium body that's complimented by a smooth flow of carbonation. Apple cider coats the mouth and leaves a juicy aftertaste.

I really enjoyed this beer. I'm not very familiar with the style, but this is one of the better ones I've had. I will say that I enjoyed this much more while it was cold that when it warmed up. It got a little too sweet once I got to my third and final pour. I'm going to sit on my other bottle for a while and see how it ends up down the road. I'll be following the reviews closely to see if it ever peaks.

August 2011 bottle poured into tulip glass.

Appearance: Golden straw color, cloudy, about a finger of lingering white head, moderate lacing.

Smell: Apple cider, honey, subtle spices, slight brett/barnyard smell, oak.

Taste: Apple cider, vanilla, bourbon, brown sugar, spices, slight funk, oak a bit boozy as it warms (but not bad considering the 9.5% ABV).

Mouthfeel: full bodied, creamy, good strong carbonation.

Overall: A very complex tasting beer. I wish I has bought more than one bottle, considering I will likely never find another (only 1355 bottles made). I'll be sure to watch for future releases in the series.

Bottle number 249/1355 shared by Carlos, thanks!

A: Dark orange and transparent with a fleeting white head.

S: Sugary apple with strong caramel notes. There's some peach and tangerine accompanying vanilla, oak, and bourbon. Light booze and a little hay and leather. Smells great.

T: Sweet apple with caramel and light bourbon. There's a bit too much alcohol in the flavor for my taste. Light oak and a good amount of sugar. Finish is boozy caramel apple.

M: Medium body with lower moderate carbonation.

Overall: Really nice aroma but a little too much alcohol and sweetness in the flavor. Still good and worth a try.

Bottle (2011)

Thanks for sharing Sam!

Clear but dark yellow with a thick, nearly white head. Lots of lacing left down the glass.

The aroma consists of citrus, namely lemon, black pepper, apple, and a mild Brett yeast funk. A sweet and funky smell.

Sweet apples and freshly baked bread along with lemon are the dominant flavors. The Brett is still very mild. There's a hint of wood in the flavor as well, but not as much as I expected.

Medium bodied with high carbonation. I really want my BSPAs to shine in this department, and this one falls significantly short of my lofty marker, though it's still above average and not at all distracting.

A decent beer, but not at all worth the price point.

Thanks to Sam for sharing this. It only took me a year to try the first one and a couple hours to try the second one.

A: The beer pours amber in color with a tall white head on it.

S: An interesting aroma. There's quite a bit of cider and apple quality to it that I find appealing. However, there's a noticeable booze note to it as well. A mild funkiness with some fruity pineapple notes. A hint of acetone on the finish.

T: Sweet bread and malt with lots of the same apple and spiced cider character. A bit of oak and caramel along with some fruity and mildly funky Brett notes. Still a bit of alcohol, unfortunately.

M: Medium bodied with a medium level of carbonation.

O: This had some nice things going on, but a little too much booze to really be outstanding.

766th Review on BA
Bottle to snifter
750ml C/C

@Woodshop Classix
Thanks to Eric and Samantha for sharing!!

App- A medium dark yellow with a one finger head that stays put for quite a while. Nice cling lines down the glass.

Smell- When you first stick your nose in the glass you are bombarded by the aromatics on this beer. It's very fresh out of the barrels so it's expected. A lot of funk from the Brett. You get some citrus as well with some lemon zest and some apple. A little bit of deeper malts as well.

Taste- Very unique for a 2nd big release. There is a lot of flavors trying to meld into a cohesive beer here. The small bit of malts does its job smoothing out the Brett and the citrus on this beer. There seems to be a lot of spice behind it which I does hope relaxes over a year.

Mouth- Medium bodied and medium carbonated with a nice lasting citrus and spice note.

Drink- For fresh out of the barrels and being a pale, this was a tasty beer. Had a lot going on in the glass but for the most past melded well with the Brett and Oak and the citrus spice.

750 ml poured into a snifter.

A: Deep golden color with dark brown hints. A half inch head appears that eventually tuns into a ring. Its barrel aged what more do you need?

S: Apple, cinnamon, caramel, bourbon, vanilla, and a slight barnyard funk from the brets. this funk should increase in a year or more.

T: Caramel, Apple, and a whole lot of barrel. Very tasty. Could use a bit of age just to meld the flavors better but is an excellent beer already. I can't wait till it gets more funky.

M: Its a medium mouthfeel. A little thick for the style but since its been hanging out in a barrel for a while its excellent.

O: Great beer. 2nd BA Strong Belgian golden I've had and it is more complex then Bruery Premiere. The bretts will drastically change it while it ages and I look forward to it. If you can find a bottle get two.
