Thanks to bman113vr for sharing this bottle at bu11zeye's 10,000th rating tasting.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is awesome. I get a ton of bourbon and raisins, as well as some chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is just as good, with a ton of barrel-aged character such as oak, whiskey, maple and vanilla. There is also a load of roasted malt and chocolate. Thick mouthfeel and low carbonation. An excellent barrel-aged Russian imperial stout. Very glad I got to try this one.

Bottle shared by nasty31 in a snifter

A - Dark chocolate brown with light maroon edges on the side

S - Bourbon, chocolate, light vanilla, light dark prune. Really bourbon forward in the nose

T - Vanilla, chocolate, lots of coffee, light sweet cream, and light bourbon in it. Finish is bitter coffee. Nice balance but definitely a bourbon forward beer!

M - Thick, chocolate body with creamy body. However the finish seems to be a bit astringent brought on by the booze and coffee flavors

O - This is a good beer overall.; however, there is so much bourbon in it that it slightly overpowers the rest of the beer

Substantially dark imperial stout - pour is very dark brown, black some light showing though. Very minimal head - clean - like reflective oil.

Very nice aromatics of very fine dark chocolate, roast, char, anise, bourbon-whiskey burn/tingle, wet barrel vanilla. Does not punch you in the face, great nuances.

Very dark - roast, char, burnt espresso, bitter dark chocolate, whiskey. Prominent notes of oaky vanilla, lingering bourbon sweetness burn, some ash. Very dry and bitter. Feels good - medium-full body, soft carbonation.

Outstanding barrel aged stout. This is great - very bold, bitter, and dry, yet very rich. The maple syrup serves more as a binding ingredient then a flavor - faint hints of it but can tell it is blending different flavors together. Lacks viscosity, otherwise outstanding.

Thanks to Rtaps for sharing one of his bottles
Pitch black with 1cm bubbly khaki head. Avg retention and Fairly spotty lacing. Fairly oily and viscous. Not as much as I thought it'd be though.

Big nose. Rich dark fruit. Rum/bourbon soaked chocolate covered dark fruit. A bit boozy. Bourbon! A bit of orange peel. A touch of caramel and toffee.

Huge range of flavor. Still young and boozy but great! Great chocolatey sweet brownie finish led by strong bourbony and vanilla notes, along with a little orange peel and toffee and bold rich coffee.

Mouth is full bodied and rich. Medium Carbonation.

Overall its nice, bold and very complex. I like it now and know I'll love it Alot later! This is a monster that is going to be amazing with some age.

Brief review from notes. On-tap @ Tony's Darts Away, served in a snifter.

Opaque seal brown body is capped by a faint light-tan raft of slowly dissipating foam. Faint yet viscous legs, decent lacing and retention.

The bourbon barrel contributes tremendously to the aroma - tobacco, vanillin, coconut shells, pepper assail the nose along with a wave of alcohol and coffee-like roasted malt. Unapologetic in its strength, it is reigned in just enough to prevent it from being fusel or solventy.

The flavor profile delivers all that the nose promised though in a compact yet well balanced form. Burnt sugar, licorice, chocolate, and maybe a touch of treacle are in there too...though it isn't super-complex. Finishes a touch hot, spicy, and not quite dry.

Creamy, rich medium-full bodied mouthfeel with good carbonation but again, just a touch hot.

Worth tracking down a bottle I suspect - while not especially original, this is a well executed example of a strong barrel aged RIS. Good stuff.

On tap at The Verdugo

A - totally black, with just a hint of choco brown head.

S - huuuuge bourbon that I can smell from two seats down. Yeah, there's some oak, vanilla, and sweetness underneath but damn that booze is strong. and awesome.

T - again, big bourbon up front, backed up by barrel flavors and some more subtle vanilla. It's big, it's powerful, it's awesome, but it didn't slay me. Based on the ABV I assumed it would be super hot, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't get at all too much harsh alcohol taste/burn. It was all bourbon, barrels, vanilla, and sweetness with just enough heat to remind me that it's 16.5%.

M - This was one really interesting aspect of this beer. It was actually a whole lot thinner and lighter than I expected. In a good way. It made it a pleasure to return to the glass for another sip, and entirely too easy to drink. I actually had this next to a Lost Abbey Deliverance, and the Deliverance (though also excellent) felt like a milkshake next to this.

O - This is a really outstanding beer. The first few things I had from Hangar 24 were pretty underwhelming, but between this and the last couple times I've had their DIPA it seems like things might be moving in the right direction, which is great to see. Wish I could get my hands on a bottle of this, but not necessarily to age - it's drinking really well right now and I just want more.
