Consumed on March 23rd, 2014 from an undated bottle, but probably from the February 2014 release. Poured at 42 degrees F into a Klokke Roeland glass which is sort of a goblet and sort of a squat, fat tulip, for those playing along at home.

Beer is a deep brown with brownish-purple highlights when held to light. A nice two finger pale tan head springs to life then settles into a thin crown after a few minutes.

Aroma is earthy and sweet with red grape aroma playing a role as well.

Flavor is sweet up front with baked molasses bread notes. Some deep, subtle melanoidins. A touch of grapes next, just before well-modulated and long-lasting wood bitterness on the finish. Some peppery notes in the finish as well. Not as complex as hoped, but interesting. Oh, and alcohol is definitely a flavor component.

Mouthfeel is full of alcohol heat. Thick and slick.

This is a beer that will probably improve with age; it is young and hot to the point of almost not being able to enjoy it fresh.

Dark ruby with a thin light brown head that doesn't leave much behind.

Sweet aroma full of grape syrup, earth, wood, and alcohol. This smells incredibly sweet.

The flavor is cloyingly sweet and syrupy with sticky flavors of caramelized grapes. It's like a overly-sweet, incredibly boozy version of grape Kool-Aid. Strange, and not very good.

Medium bodied with low carbonation.

A very strange beer, and probably not one I'd want to try again.

Appearance - Pours a hazy rust red with an off-white finger width head. Fair retention, results in a thin layer of microbubbles coating the surface.

Smell - Predominant grape aroma. Sweet. Touches of heat. Faint honey notes.

Taste - Follows the nose. Strong grape flavor with moderate honey notes and touches of heat from the alcohol. Faint undertones of bread, caramel and chocolate, most noticeable in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium to full body with lively carbonation. Finishes dry.

Overall - Awfully similar to Dogfish Head's Midas Touch in terms of flavor, though I prefer this one a bit more, mostly due to the more approachable body. If I never had this again I wouldn't miss it, but it's certainly something I'd consider buying again, price dependent.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep reddish body. Big khaki head. Nice retention. Thick collar.

Smell - Fruity. Grapes. Musty. Sweet and caramelly.

Taste - Sweet with some grapey fruitiness. Caramel. Not a complex beer.

Mouthfeel - Overcarbonated. Sweet. Medium body.

Overall - Just not an impressive beer. Too sweet and uncomplex.

Hangar 24's Vinaceous. An old ale brewed with Mourvedre wine grapes, on French oak. 8.7% ABV

A: Deep reddish-brown, sort of like a Flemish red ale. About a half a finger of head. Light lacing. Yellow gradients towards orange in the dimple.

S: Ooh! There is a moderate amount of sourness to it. Pleasant surprise there. Dry, yet fruity grape smell. Molasses-y, malty. Some raisin. Not bad.

T/MF: Quite different on the palate! Plenty of bitter malt notes going on here. Burnt caramel, ash, tobacco. Darker fruit notes hidden in the back (prune, maybe). Grape skin. Not a trace of acidity on this end, taste-wise, though I am salivating, slightly. Slightly more carbonated on the tongue.

Poured into a Belgian tulip glass, from a 22 oz. bottle.

On tap @ The bruery provisions

Look: Dark brown with orange highlights and a 1/4 inch off white head and just ok retention

Smell: Rich and malty with some brown sugar

Taste: Pretty simple and was expecting more from what I had read about the beer. Upfront is the same maltiness that nose carries with some brown sugar and oak on the finish. I have just one question Where the hell are the grape notes??

Mouthfeel: Medium body and mild carbonation and a bit silky

Overall: Good beer maybe one of my two favorites from Hangar but I feel like the flavor is just missing something

On-tap at Bruery Provisions

Pours blood red in color with a finger of off-white head. A weird combination of smoke (maybe the char from the oak?) and grape. Heavily toasted malts with some sweet caramel and fruit coming through. Sweet with a decent grape character but fairly watery. A touch of toast along with the dark fruit character.
