Hangar 24's Vinaceous. An old ale brewed with Mourvedre wine grapes, on French oak. 8.7% ABV
A: Deep reddish-brown, sort of like a Flemish red ale. About a half a finger of head. Light lacing. Yellow gradients towards orange in the dimple.
S: Ooh! There is a moderate amount of sourness to it. Pleasant surprise there. Dry, yet fruity grape smell. Molasses-y, malty. Some raisin. Not bad.
T/MF: Quite different on the palate! Plenty of bitter malt notes going on here. Burnt caramel, ash, tobacco. Darker fruit notes hidden in the back (prune, maybe). Grape skin. Not a trace of acidity on this end, taste-wise, though I am salivating, slightly. Slightly more carbonated on the tongue.
Poured into a Belgian tulip glass, from a 22 oz. bottle.

Consumed on March 23rd, 2014 from an undated bottle, but probably from the February 2014 release. Poured at 42 degrees F into a Klokke Roeland glass which is sort of a goblet and sort of a squat, fat tulip, for those playing along at home.
Beer is a deep brown with brownish-purple highlights when held to light. A nice two finger pale tan head springs to life then settles into a thin crown after a few minutes.
Aroma is earthy and sweet with red grape aroma playing a role as well.
Flavor is sweet up front with baked molasses bread notes. Some deep, subtle melanoidins. A touch of grapes next, just before well-modulated and long-lasting wood bitterness on the finish. Some peppery notes in the finish as well. Not as complex as hoped, but interesting. Oh, and alcohol is definitely a flavor component.
Mouthfeel is full of alcohol heat. Thick and slick.
This is a beer that will probably improve with age; it is young and hot to the point of almost not being able to enjoy it fresh.
