A: Poured medium brown, like a caramel and toffee in colo,r with amber highlights, nice dirty white cap, good retention for the style and minimal lacing

S: Nice hints of toffee, caramel, vanilla, oak and light cocoa

T: A nice blend of toffee, caramel upfront which is the mainstay of the beer. The barrel brings a very light bourbon, vanilla and oakiness to the mix which is understated not underwhelming. The base beer is very strong. A booze sting is prevelant throughout. There is a light residual sugar sweetness on the body and finish as well. The finish is sweet toffee and caramel candy, light bitterness and lingering sweetness on end with a hint of vanilla

M: Medium, medium-full body. well carbonated for style being low-medium. A nice sweetness, decadent and creamy texture

O: Very good. I would compare this Blighs Dry Dock anyday.

Draft at KnB Wine Cellar in San Diego, CA. March, 2013.

Pours a hazy and very dark chestnut brown color that's completely opaque with a one finger beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring.  Great retention for the style and ABV.  Streaks of soapy lacing left behind.

Great barrel presence in the aroma.  Lots of spicy brandy and bourbon along with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut.  Nice leathery malt backbone with vinous dark fruit notes and caramel sweetness.  The barrel character is perfectly integrated into the notes of the base beer.

Full bodied with a strong barrel character and plenty of spicy booze but it's nicely integrated into the barleywine flavors.  Strong dry oak presence with lots of brandy, spicy bourbon, vanilla and toasted coconut followed by leathery malt, caramel sweetness, alcohol and vinous dark fruit, notably date, fig and plum.  Really well balanced with excellent barrel integration.  Complex and flavorful yet very easy to drink considering the high abv.  Slight heat and warmth in the finish without being harsh.  Plenty of delicious spirit without becoming overwhelmingly boozy or overpowering.  Excellent!
