Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is the essence of Southern California. A traditional West Coast IPA with a distinct copper hue, enhanced by generous additions of navel oranges, sweet blood oranges and grapefruit, all grown in Redlands, CA. The citrus flavors and aromas intensify the zesty Cascade and Zythos hops to deliver a one-of-a-kind drinking experience. An invigorating beer with a pleasant, defining bitterness, perfect for warm weather.

22oz bottle from Khourey's (Las Vegas, NV). 7.99. No bottling date that I can find. Served in a Terrapin goblet.

Pours a hazy pale gold with two and a half fingers of near white head. Decent retention but not much lace. A murky, almost pulpy sediment settles towards the end.

As expected the nose is full of citrus. Definate strong notes of those naval and blood oranges followed by catmelized sugar and sweet bread.

Taste follows the aroma. Dominant blood oranges, mandarin rind, bitter grapefruit, mild pine, grass, slight earthy hay, a little peppery spice and just a pinch of alcohol. A nice blend of citrus and hops with plenty of malt sweetness.

Oily medium body with moderate carbonation. Bittersweet blood orange piney finish.

A really enjoyable DIPA. Pehaps not perfect but it has a distinctive, if heavy handed, blood orange chatacter that I enjoyed. I'm not going out of my way to get anymore but it is worth a try.

Draft at KnB Wine Cellar in San Diego, CA. March, 2013.

Pours a slightly hazy, dark tangerine color with apricot edges and a two finger off-white head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring.  Splotchy lacing left behind.

Sweet floral hop aroma that's slightly faded with lots of citrus fruit followed by sweet caramel malt.  Hints of tangerine, apricot and oranges followed by caramel and toffee.  Some earthy pine and grassy saaz-like hops as well but it's more malt forward  at this point.

Medium bodied and resinous with dry bitterness countered by citrus fruit and a sweet malt backbone.  Earthy and more hop forward than expected with grassy pine needle flavor followed by orange peel, apple and grapefruit.  Sweet caramel malt backbone with some biscuit, bread and toffee flavor.  Decently balanced but the hops are a bit faded and the malt presence is stronger than I prefer.

Served in a footed glass at Ale Arsenal.

Clear ish orange. Some head.

Grapefruit peel and not much else.

Super hoppy and very fruity. High carbonation, but it works. The first initial sip is sweet. Blood orange is apparent. Then in rush bitter hops that dominate the flavor (with some orange and grapefruit zest) through the aftertaste.

Not nearly as fruity as anticipated. Hugely bitter, but very tasty. Would drink again.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a pint glass. Bottle dated 6/22/13 and drank on 8/3/13.

A: Nice copper copper color, thin head.

S: Smells warm and sweet. Fruit really comes through . Less hoppy smelling than you would expect from an IPA

T: Full and smooth, with citrus notes blending very well with the hops. Nicely balanced without being overpowering.

M: Lightly carbonated, drinkable without being overly heavy

Would be a great fall beer. Great flavors, not too heavy, and refreshing. You could definitely drink a few in a sitting

22 oz Bomber poured into Delirium Tremens snifter

A: Bright orange and cloudy with an off white almost yellowish head. Very little lacing after head dissipated but comes back when stirred from its moderate carbonation.

S: Great citrus hops, nice resin dankness common to West Coast IPAs. Great aroma of citrus definitely shines through all the hop aroma when standing back a bit from the glass, very aromatic even at a distance. Stirring the beer really brings out the dank in the hops, wow, a lot going on in the aroma. So much citrus and hop funk!

T: Very different than the aroma... A strange orange peel cloyingness going on at the beginning and lingers through out. Dry bitterness and slightly fruity with light pine character in the finish. Smooth flavors that work good together and definitely citrus.

M: Dry finish with a good bitterness that lingers and reminds you of all the characteristics of the West Coast trend of IPAs. A orange peel like bitterness also lingers but actually makes for a refreshing beer.

O: A very smooth and dry example with a little extra going on with the added citrus. Works well and helps to tame the high abv clocking at 8.5%. Drinkable and refreshing. Will recommend to friends but just a tad expensive, well worth the experience though. Go for it!

A dark orange amber body with notable haze. A sharp pour nets a two finger stark white head with rather poor retention. Smattering of wispy lacing on the glass.

Sharp, one dimensional orange citrus rind and astringent phenols. Some grapefruit and pine resin mixed in there too. Alcohol is masking any hint of malt sweetness.

Pleasantly surprised that despite being brewed with fruit the sweetness is very toned down. Bready with some husky cereal grain, ethanol comes in providing an astringent note as the hops add bitterness and a pinching grapefruit rind, lemon and pine resin flavor.

Bright carbonation battles the medium body of this beer. The bitterness and alcohol feel is very high in this DIPA as is the drying effect.

For me the jury is still out on Hangar 24, they are pretty reliable when it comes to adding fruit to beer, I just haven't been blown away by anything yet. The citrus character is present in this beer but some sweetness to hide the alcohol and a hop variety that adds citrus flavor really could've made this better.
