Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is the essence of Southern California. A traditional West Coast IPA with a distinct copper hue, enhanced by generous additions of navel oranges, sweet blood oranges and grapefruit, all grown in Redlands, CA. The citrus flavors and aromas intensify the zesty Cascade and Zythos hops to deliver a one-of-a-kind drinking experience. An invigorating beer with a pleasant, defining bitterness, perfect for warm weather.

A - orange, cooper hazy color. If I didnt know it I would think it was a heff. Sligh head, nothing to foamy with moderate lacing.

S - nice citrus, orange, grapefruit smell with a little hop bitter note to it. For a DIPA the smell is a little mild. I think all the fruit masked the hops and alchool. Refreshing smell.

T - similar to the smell, well balanced orange, grapefruit and hop forward not too bitter or overpowering. It makes a great summer DIPA that represents the west coast nicely.

M - nice medium body. Not a light beer but not a heavy body either. Right amount of carbonation to it.

O - first experience with hangar 24. Good beer but not great. A little more citrusy and less hoppy than I prefer. I was stoked to try it and would order it again. It's a rare DIPA that makes for a great summer beer because the oranges and grapefruit make it nice and refreshing. Plus, the high ABV u only need a few.

A: Pours a golden orange with two finger white head with lasting retention and sticky lacing.

S: Fairly big citrus - oranges and tangerines. Pine hops.

T: Mix of blood orange and other sweet citrus notes. A touch of honey sweetness.

M: Medium body leaving a bit of hop oils on the tongue.

O: Nice citrus forward DIPA.

I'm trying to only use the "Hads" but this one is sufficiently good where it should have a score so I'd like to help it out.

In a nutshell, I completely agree with UCLABrewN84 whose review is below, although I think it looks pretty darn good, as well.

This beer is, in my opinion, one of the best I've had from Hangar 24 and I've been there and tasted a lot of their stuff. This may be my favorite from them, to date.

Nose is big, full and friendly. Mouthfeel is rich, bold and inviting. Taste is just what you want - rich, bold and very well balanced - one of the best balanced brews I've had in a long while, while still retaining big fresh rich character and flavors.

You may not love it but this is at least one to try.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a pint glass. Bottle dated 6/22/13 and drank on 8/3/13.

A: Nice copper copper color, thin head.

S: Smells warm and sweet. Fruit really comes through . Less hoppy smelling than you would expect from an IPA

T: Full and smooth, with citrus notes blending very well with the hops. Nicely balanced without being overpowering.

M: Lightly carbonated, drinkable without being overly heavy

Would be a great fall beer. Great flavors, not too heavy, and refreshing. You could definitely drink a few in a sitting

Pours nice and heady, good retention, lacing. Hazy burnt orange hue. Nice small bubbles.

Smells really floral. Like the outside of a fresh grapefruit. Perfumy.

Hits you right away with a peppery, citrusy bitterness. White pepper. Toast. Slight male backbone but this thing is balanced toward hops and citrus fruit for sure. Orange flesh. Some floral hops in the finish. Slight caramel but you have to look for it. Bitterness lingers long after sipping.

Light on the tongue for an 8.5 abv beer. Some astringency. Very very dry.

A really interesting offering. Great for drinking when it's hot out, as the bitter, dry finish leaves you wanting more. Not a hop bomb, it is balanced more between the citrus and the hops. Very unique and tasty, I like that the fruit is not overly obvious.

22oz bottle from Khourey's (Las Vegas, NV). 7.99. No bottling date that I can find. Served in a Terrapin goblet.

Pours a hazy pale gold with two and a half fingers of near white head. Decent retention but not much lace. A murky, almost pulpy sediment settles towards the end.

As expected the nose is full of citrus. Definate strong notes of those naval and blood oranges followed by catmelized sugar and sweet bread.

Taste follows the aroma. Dominant blood oranges, mandarin rind, bitter grapefruit, mild pine, grass, slight earthy hay, a little peppery spice and just a pinch of alcohol. A nice blend of citrus and hops with plenty of malt sweetness.

Oily medium body with moderate carbonation. Bittersweet blood orange piney finish.

A really enjoyable DIPA. Pehaps not perfect but it has a distinctive, if heavy handed, blood orange chatacter that I enjoyed. I'm not going out of my way to get anymore but it is worth a try.
